About
A calamity wrought from the stars. A meteor crashed into the land and seeped into the soil. As the corruption spreads, the denizens understand how insignificant they are, and victims of dormancy, they no longer seek out ways to thrive. However, if that opportunity is brought back to them, they will seize it with a renewed fervor.

If you love Metroidvanias, this is well worth your time. It nails the absolute most critical thing a game in this genre needs to get right: how it feels to play. Right out of the gate, the controller support is flawless. Plug and play with zero hassle, and the character control is buttery smooth. The movement is incredibly responsive and snappy; momentum carries perfectly, and stringing together traversal abilities feels like a fluid dance. When you mess up a precise jump or take a hit, it’s on you, and never because you were fighting the controls. That said, there is definitely room for the developers to elevate this from a good game to a great game: Pixel Scaling: Some areas need a bit of visual polish. The character sprites and the environment assets don't always share equal pixel scaling, leading to some jarring visual inconsistencies where certain elements look noticeably crispier or more stretched than others. Biome & Enemy Variety: While the core gameplay loop is incredibly satisfying, the enemy variety can feel a bit thin. It would be great to see more distinct, specialized enemy types that are unique to specific biomes, rather than reskins, to force you to adapt your combat style. Content Scope: The pacing is excellent, but you'll definitely find yourself wanting more. Adding a few more levels and distinct biomes to explore would give the world-building more room to breathe and extend the longevity of the game. Ultimately, the exploration is rewarding and the map layout is clever, offering those classic "aha!" moments when a new ability unlocks a shortcut. If the devs can patch the asset scaling and expand on the content and enemy variety in future updates, this will be an absolute better experience all in all. Easily an 8/10 in its current state, with the potential to be a 10.
Short and simple. Decent game overall. Since it seems like a team thats new to game design i'll give a few tweaks instead of critiques. Notes for the developer: -Add more sound effects when you cleanse a root, like tree sounds -Add an outline to the platforms and walls so they pop out a bit more -lower the volume of the sound effect for "entering water" -lower the menu button volume -refresh double jump upon entering the screen from the bottom -higlight the protagonists name, a different color when he talks, to differentiate conversations better
A microvania that is surprisingly good. Most microvanias at this price range usually have rough edges in the gameplay and controls, but here the rough edges are limited purely to the literally rough edges of the blocky artwork in this game. The game even has some sequence breaking. Performance is buttery smooth so I guess this was made using godot. Everyone should be using godot for game development.
fun short game for a decent price!
Kami: The Great Guardian is a short but very enjoyable Metroidvania that understands exactly what it wants to be. Instead of stretching its content over dozens of hours, it delivers a compact adventure that can be completed in around an hour while still capturing the core appeal of the genre. What I appreciated the most was how intuitive and fast-paced the progression feels. New abilities are introduced at a steady rhythm, making exploration constantly rewarding. Despite its short length, the game manages to offer a surprising amount of freedom. The systems are simple but effective. The interconnected world is easy to navigate, and I rarely felt lost thanks to the game's natural level design. I also think the short format is one of the game's greatest strengths. Not everyone has the time to invest 20 or 30 hours into a Metroidvania. Kami provides the satisfaction of discovering new abilities, unlocking shortcuts, and exploring an interconnected world without requiring a huge time commitment. It's an excellent choice for busy players who still want the pleasure of playing a true Metroidvania. If you enjoy Metroidvanias with a great level design, a smart progression and a respect for your time, Kami: The Great Guardian is well worth checking out.
Tree Hugger
Great nice little Metroidvania that delivers a fun, short experience while respecting and paying homage to the basics of the genre. Great to play in one sitting, works perfectly on Steam Deck
Pretty cool, short and charming mini-Metroidvania with a focus on sequence breaking and speedrunning. You can 100% the game in around 30-40 minutes and there are a dozen ways you can go about your adventure while finding new abilities in literally any order. Abilities are very interesting, graphics are nice, control is great and map UI marks everything automatically. It's a really cool game to play in one sitting, easy thumbs up. Plus lots of potential for speedrunning, if you're into it.
A fun microvania which really encourages replayability!
Very rudimentary art style but it reflects the gameplay. The gameplay is that of a old-school, very competent room platformer. (Without the murderous difficulty level of more modern iterations) The map is straight-to-the-point. It automatically, and clearly, marks the ability pickups and places you have to cleanse to progress the story. Looking forward to playing it more.
