Wonky hitboxes, unresponsive jump key, what appears to be completely random fall damage that differs depending on the level. Honestly, the only good thing about this game is that it ends. If you're achievement hunting and are up for an hour of pain then sure but otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Just Hero is a simple, fun and difficult platformer game. Though it may not look like much at first, it offers quite the challenge for beginners to the platformer genre. There is no jump input buffering, making it tricky to make certain jumps, but in a way, it adds to the difficulty. There's also fall damage which can be a nightmare in some parts, but again, it makes the game all the more challenging. Though, I probably wouldn't have had fall damage be a thing personally. Otherwise, the game isn't long at all, if you know what you're doing it shouldn't take you longer than 30 minutes, but it does provide some challenge and isn't completely a cakewalk. Definitely recommend, it's cheap and is a great way to test your platforming abilities!
Just Hero, developed by Anatoliy Loginovskikh and published by Sometimes You, is a minimalist side-scrolling platformer that attempts to evoke the fundamentals of classic genre design while keeping its mechanics as simple as possible. It follows the journey of an unnamed protagonist who awakens without memory and is gradually pushed into a path of conflict and self-discovery. While the premise hints at a deeper narrative, the experience itself is largely driven by straightforward platforming challenges rather than story development. The gameplay is built around the most basic actions associated with the genre: movement and jumping. Levels consist of navigating hazards, avoiding enemies, and reaching the endpoint without losing all your health. There are no additional mechanics to layer complexity onto this foundation—no abilities to unlock, no meaningful upgrades, and no evolving systems that change how the game is played. This stripped-down approach makes the game immediately accessible, but it also exposes its limitations very quickly. Without variation in mechanics, each level feels like a repetition of the same idea with slightly increased difficulty. Difficulty is a defining element of the experience, though it often stems from inconsistency rather than deliberate design. Timing jumps and avoiding obstacles can feel unpredictable, with controls and collision detection lacking the precision needed for a platformer that relies heavily on accuracy. As a result, failure can feel less like a learning experience and more like frustration caused by unreliable mechanics. While there are moments where careful play is rewarded, these are frequently overshadowed by instances where the game’s responsiveness undermines player input. The level design follows a linear structure, offering a sequence of stages that gradually increase in challenge but not in complexity. There is little sense of progression beyond reaching the next level, as the game does not introduce new ideas or mechanics to keep the experience fresh. Collectibles are present but serve no meaningful purpose, functioning more as optional distractions than as part of a broader system. This lack of depth contributes to a feeling that the game is static, with limited incentive to continue once the core loop becomes familiar. Visually, Just Hero adopts a basic pixel-art style that reflects its small-scale development. While there is a certain rough charm to its presentation, environments and character animations lack detail and variety, making the world feel repetitive over time. The soundtrack provides minimal support, offering background audio that neither enhances the atmosphere nor detracts from it in a significant way. Overall, the presentation is functional but does little to elevate the experience beyond its core mechanics. The narrative, which initially suggests a story of memory loss and personal discovery, remains largely underdeveloped. There are hints of a larger context, but they are not explored in a meaningful way, leaving the player with little emotional connection to the protagonist or the world. This disconnect between the game’s premise and its execution further contributes to the sense that it does not fully realize its potential. Despite its shortcomings, Just Hero may still hold some appeal for players who appreciate extremely simple, no-frills platformers. Its straightforward design makes it easy to pick up and play, and those looking for a brief, uncomplicated challenge may find some enjoyment in its structure. However, for players seeking depth, polish, or a more engaging progression system, the experience is likely to feel limited. In the end, Just Hero comes across as a concept that was never fully developed into a complete experience. It captures the outline of a classic platformer but lacks the refinement and variety needed to sustain interest over time. While it offers a glimpse of what could have been a more engaging game, its execution leaves it feeling more like an early prototype than a finished product. Rating: 5/10

Nice try. Caí uma vez, não caio outra.
Just Hero (2016, разработчик — Anatoliy Loginovskikh, издатель — Sometimes You) — хардкорный 2D‑платформер.
