When it works, it's a fun stealth-oriented JA, that never let you assemble your personal army, forcing you to actually do guerilla instead of John Rambo warfare. Problem is, half of the time it doesn't work. Hardlocks, AI's freezes, visual bugs that lies to you and ruins stealth segments, audio glitches. ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ color filter makes you difficult to see even your own troops. I can see a rocket jumping player flying 500 kph past me in Quake, but I can't see a drunk Ivan in open field in turn-based here. I'm dead serious. Lack of quicksave/quickload does not help either. If patience is not your strong trait, better play Jagged Alliance 3, which Ignores this as a JA2 sequel.
Too many game breaking bugs and the most sad that one of the last missions cannot be finished at all. AI needs to make a turn and it never finishes it. There is a Village mission on 3ed map. Black Mercs are under attack of crazy villagers. Player should choose a side, but when villagers attack Black Mercs AI just doesn't finish the turn no matter how long I waited. I tried to restart this mission 15 times and I tried to attack Black Mercs or villagers or let them fight. No matter what I did and how I did if the battle between villagers and mercs starts, AI couldn't finish the turn.
Good game but it's not comparable to JA2, it's not a serious and realistic game but it's fun pros: - Nice graphics, really pleasant gamma - Squary landscape, quite original - Funny voiceover - Improved stealth mechanics - Mercs suffer from everything which affects their perfomance cons: - Poor drawn portraits - Always a turn based combat - Loot is picked up from the ground (no sector inventory such as in JA2) - Little amount of mercs - Sometimes bugs happen, e.g. game freezes sometimes while skipping dialogs, so don't do that
A fun stealth-based spin-off. The game's store page says it's a spin-off so I don't get the complaints about it not being Jagged Alliance 2. It has some jank but it's a fun stealth-based spin-off, I do agree it sucks that the early game is locked to only 2 mercs. (Though you can eventually get 2 more mercs.)
Buggy game, played 2 hours and failed 4 times already
The game is garbage. The vibes are off. It's nothing like any other jagged alliance games. I couldn't even take more than 20 minutes of this atrociousness before I refunded it. No, I will not give it more of a chance. I did. I can see where this is going. I am not spending any more time in this thing, it screams unfun garbage from the top of it's lungs as soon as you boot it up. It's like a mobile port of snagged reliance 0.1. which makes no sense. and neither does this game's existance. yuck. no thanks.
The game story is too linear… the combats are too easy: you just lay in the grass and stupid enemies are running to you themselves (even not having chance to shoot because you are hidden) - so AI is not smart absolutely here. I am surprised that after so many years (after game release) there are still lots of bugs like disappearing things from my inventory after game loading. Also there is no even chance to check control buttons in settings if you forgot smth. And the game is too simplified in terms of character development and inventory and other things like that. Also many things are not perfect: I must double confirm any action I perform whether I lay down or stand up or shoot, or e.g. when all enemies are killed «step by step» mode does not switch off which makes it too long and annoying to move around the area. You can complete the whole game with only 1 gun you pick at starting location… So this is more console game for children rather than tactics game for adults. I wish I played this game 22 years ago when JA2 was too difficult for me when I was a teenager.
I think the problem with Jagged Alliance is that since gamers experienced JA2 there has not been a successful redesign after that to match the original feeling. Very much like trying to replace Chester Bennington with Emily Armstrong. Then people say they want the old. Then they say they want something new. It is difficult. JA2 with a new shiny coat seems to be a dilemma. To me Rage has a new modern feeling and yet carries some of the old DNA. The game is not as buggy as some claimed it to be in the past. Don't know how much has been rectified. I do feel a bit annoyed when enemies shoot me through cover. I just experienced one other bug so far where the game became unresponsive. The maps feel extremely small and a bit too linear. The biggest bonus for me is that I can play it in Virtual Reality and I really love it because of that. Anything that could be VR'd I enjoy. So far it was quite an immersive experience. I will probably make 3D Youtube video so that others can see what I mean. I miss the original effort that went into the character creation. This has been the same like with BIA. But it improved a little bit here. To me it still feels worth the time and I am excited to see what more it has in store. Hopefully not bugs. Fingers crossed.
I've had this game for a few years now and after replacing and upgrading, going through 3 laptops, not once have I managed to get this game to work. I'm done trying. I don't care what needs to be done, I want my damn refund! Mouse won't highlight the UI and the controller support doesn't work. This was a lazy cash grab and blatant theft!
