No Mercy, Just Mud and Blood
This is not a game for the faint of heart. It’s raw, unfair, and brutally honest—just like war itself.
Step forward, Commander, and see if you have what it takes to endure the Mud and Blood.

Mud and Blood was, for the most part, created in an unlikely place: an outpost somewhere between Kandahar and Panjway, Afghanistan. Initially developed as a flash game by urb in between missions on a beat-up laptop, it became a way to decompress from the chaos. Ironically, a game about brutal, unforgiving war was itself forged in the heart of a conflict. What began as a personal project has since evolved into a cult classic, beloved by a fiercely loyal community for over 16 years.
At its core, Mud and Blood embraces a unique philosophy: challenge, not comfort. The gameplay is punishingly difficult, but it respects your tactical sense and cognitive ability. It doesn’t drip-feed you success to keep you engaged. Every decision matters, every mistake is costly, and every victory is hard-earned. This is a game that trusts its players to make tough calls on the fly, think critically, and persevere through chaos and loss.
In Mud and Blood, war is not heroic. It’s messy, unpredictable, and brutal. Yet amidst the carnage, there’s a raw beauty in the stories that emerge—a narrative forged by the player, much like the Dwarf Fortress of combat. Your experience becomes your own war story: a tale of triumph against an unrelenting enemy and the quiet pride of knowing you gave it everything you had.
Crafted with love, a touch of PTSD, and a deep respect for its community, Mud and Blood is a humble tribute to those who dare to face the impossible.

Reviews
Having the campaign beaten twice I think I can leave a review now. Game is unfair as f_ck. Even more f_cking unfair than the previous ones on Kongregate. Still keeping the stupid 6 man rule and starter springfields. Medics can fight now but the very second a soldier is turned into a medic they forget how to shoot, losing their combat skills significantly. Vehicle armor is inconsisten as hell, once it toke me 2 panzerfausts and 1 precise artillery shot to kill a Stug but once I've managed to kill it only with a single faust. I like the game, but the sheer amount of unfair BS there is for whatever reason is just stupid. There is a difference between a challenge and paratroopers dying to airburst strikes who haven't even landed but the game counting the still mid air paratroopers not on the playing field. I will change my review once balancing will be more of a concern rather than just throwing random bs at the player. I get that URB stands for Unfair Random Brutality, but there's too few fun moments in the game that even wiping my own ass with barbedwire seems more appealing than to play with this in the current state of the game.
The negative reviews i've read are missing the point of this game. It's not suppose to be fair and player friendly. It's not suppose to be easy. It's suppose to feel like real war. You will lose men, you will lose many men. Sometimes you will lose half a dozen squads just on one map. Brutal, Unfair and Random, just like real war. If your looking for a main character, hero game or something easy and boring, go elsewhere, this isn't for you. If you can't stand losing, go away. A single artillery shell can and will land in the wrong place at the wrong time and wipe out your squad, that's part of the game, and that is what happens in real life. War is not fair and this game does an excellent job of portraying that. This is one of those games where you just have to take a backseat and say to yourself, welp there goes my squad, alright you guys are next. How you develope as player in this game feels just like a world war general would, you start off thinking alright, here's my squad I got a sniper dude he's cool and this other guy has a radio he can call in air support and oh this guys cool hes special forces etc. your invested in your men's livehood and everything is going well, your kicking the germans but and then ... you send them into a machine gun nest..... riiiip. Ah well I'll get a new squad ..... land mines ...... next lotta dudes .... tank gets them etc. By the 10000000th squad you just don't care anymore. Ah well we might lose a dude or two but we have to keep pushing kind of mentality to, I literally don't care about my men anymore, your not going to live long enough for me to remeber your name. Just go die. (you can leave them some poppies on their graves in the cemetery if your feeling sentimental). Honestly encapulates how I think many generals would have felt in the wars. The 2008 original was an absolute banger and this game is nothing like anything else that I've come across. Spent hours playing it, couldn't recomend it more. Big Kudos to URB for breaking the mould and making something unique and realistically brutal for the player, unlike 99% of other game developers. 10/10
good game and add coop or workshop pls
One of my favorite games growing up. Still unfair, still random, still brutal.
this game can be very fun, its hard but totally unfair which ruins the player experience, its not difficult in a balanced way where you as the player can compensate through skill or strategy in fact the game goes out of its way to punish strategy that works, especially in classic which is the default mode of the original games, this ultimately leads to what I could only describe as what could have been a insanely fun and creative game into a poorly designed and unbalanced gang initiation simulator where you roleplay the victim.
Indie gem alarm.
Divine war time. I need my Nam trauma tho
Kinda cool, no sense of progression since losing my men in the campaign means they're gone for good. And the defense mode is only limited to 4 units (having more makes them rush you for some weird ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason) . The UI is also frustrating to navigate, more often than not I'm trying to figure out where my own soldiers are on the map since they blend in so well.
I do enjoy the game and i bought it to support the Dev and to play it but like the game the development is as frustrating. Updates are far and few in between and there is hardly any communication or roadmap that we can rely on. The UI needs some work the game is meant to be unfair the UI could at least not be so detrimental that it too is against us. {example: the scroll bar at the top of the map can not be hidden so if you have to select a unit that is under that scroll bar you have to move it to the side so that they do not overlap} small fixes like these would go along way to make the game more playable and enjoyable. i do hope this game continues to be successful and brings more to the table in the future as for now ill give it a thumbs down until things get improved.
can you add where i can just quit to the main menu and not the full game
