Jacob

Jacob is an educational game developed by the Centre for Longitudinal Studies, with the goal of broadening general knowledge of the concepts of sociology through the media of video gaming. What a terrible idea. The hamfisted attempt to "Just make a game about Sociology" works out pretty badly. The idea is that you have to build a ladder and climb as high as you can, but in possible one of the most clumsy analogies ever made, you're given a random start and random pieces, to demonstrate that life is unfair. Okay then. The technical implementation here is shoddy, with pieces that drag and drop inelegantly, and an obscure game design that you just have to work out (perhaps the lack of a tutorial is another hamfisted metaphor). This trash isn't making sociology better, it's just making gaming worse.

If you've played this after the time of this review being posted, you played it to see for yourself how bad it is. Don't worry, I did the same thing and I have no regrets bigger than that decision... except maybe breaking my neighbor's window with a baseball... but that's beside the point entirely. Our pain and suffering? -Who's Jacob? Is he hot? Is SHE hot? -Grammer issues everywhere -I've asked too many questions and I played a whopping 10 minutes of this... why? --No instructions. --I've spent more time writing this review than actually playing the game. This is a double minus because I'm sobbing over my life choices and how they got me to where I'm sitting right now... in my parent's basement eating blueberry pop tarts and drinking apple juice ---Maybe this game did succeed at being "A Game About Life"... A very good game i really enjoyed the building aspects of the game

the purpose of this game is to get as high as possible, but i think you have to be high af to enjoy this game. nonetheless 8/10 game would build ladder into clouds again.
