Ironclads: Chincha Islands War 1866

The first time I saw this game, it was on a massive sale. I am someone who enjoys the naval part of games and figured what's $2? The first thing to take note of is the extremely low graphics. It is an Indie low budget game, so that does not actually take away from any quality of the game. It could have been a redeeming factor when everything else fell on its face, but no major concern. I booted up the game and looked for a quick tutorial option. There wasn't one. Even Rock of Ages has a tutorial, and that is a game that a tablet could play. This was built to be more complex, and it is. I figure that I have played enough games in my day to figure it out as I go through, I was let down again. It is not obvious what keys do what. It is also not obvious what condition your ships are in. I was let down yet again. In conclusion, this game lets you down at every single turn. Poor graphics, poor controls, poor UI, poor replay value. In short, do not buy this game, nor should you gift it because your friend will simply get frustrated and be mad at you.

Really boring ship real time strategy

"Ironclads: Chincha Islands War 1866" simuliert historische Schiffsgefechte. Im Krieg um Chincha Island ging es um Vogelkacke. Ja, richtig gehört: um Vogelkacke. Denn auf der Insel lebten endlose Scharen an Vögeln und deren Ausscheidungen, das Guano war damals ein wichtiger Dünger für die Landwirtschaft. Spanien unter Isabella II besetzte die Insel. Daraufhin griff Chile die Spanier an. Später traten noch Peru, Ecuador und Bolivien auf Seiten Chiles dem Krieg bei, der über 14 Jahre dauern sollte. Allerdings kam es nur selten zu wirklichen Konfrontationen. Deshalb gab es in diesen 14 Jahren unter all den Truppen insgesamt nur etwa 1000 Verluste. In diesem Spiel kaufen wir uns Ironclads, also Panzerschiffe der Zeit und lassen sie dann auf der blauen See gegeneinander antreten. Dummerweise haben wir allerdings gar nicht so viel zu entscheiden. Wir können den Schiffsgruppen Bewegungsbefehle geben. Mit ihren Kanonen schießen werden sie dann automatisch, sobald sie in Reichweite der Gegner sind. Das Ganze dauert lang, verdammt lang. Selbst in höchster Geschwindigkeit schleichen die Pötte über die blaue See. Spannung kommt so nur sehr bedingt auf. Dadurch, daß wir kaum etwas beeinflussen können, wirkt das Ganze auch mehr wie eine Video-Präsentation denn wie ein Spiel. Und diese Filmshow ist nicht mal besonders gelungen. Grafik und Sound sind deutlich unterdurchschnittlich. Das Wasser sieht selbst für einen Titel von 2011 schwach aus. Die Schiffsmodelle sind noch am gelungensten, lassen aber auch Details vermissen. Irgendwie fragt man sich die ganze Zeit während des Spielens, weshalb man diesen Titel eigentlich gerade zockt. Für das Spielerlebnis? Für die historische Simulation? Oder doch dafür, mal wieder über den Konflikt recherchieren darf. Der war nämlich um mehrere Klassen interessanter als dieses Spiel. Leider wurde die Spannung historischer Schlachten hier in eines der langweiligsten Wargame aller Zeiten gegossen. Uno de los juegos más desastrosos que he tenido la poca fortuna de comprar. El juego carece de todo leitmotiv, lo unico que hacemos es manejar columnas de barcos, no existe ningun relato o introduccion a los combates. Sin embargo, esto es un punto que podria pasarse por alto, si no fuera por el hecho de que la jugablidad es bastante mediocre, la musica es repetitiva, los efectos sonoros malos y en resumidas cuentas, todas las peleas insufriblemente monotonas. Sinceramente, no se como es que este juego llego a estar a la venta en Steam.

The pacing still suffers when one does that, and of course micromanagement hell ensues. Review: This game be so slow that even on fast forward I thought it was turn based for 3 whole minutes. It is everything I hate about naval combat. Ships take forever to turn, you gotta like... snake your ships around to maximum damage around the enemy. ships fire in a straight line despite cannons being side to side on ships, friendly units fire through each other as if they did not exist. One of the most braindead, slow unappealing pc entertainment products around. Its also just a reskin of the russian american version of this game. Whatever man
