One of the most unique and creepy horror games I have ever played. Let's start off with me saying I LOVE Szymanski's work, everything he touches turns into a work of art, and Iron Lung is another example of his excellent sense of style, gameplay and seemingly unlimited creativity. Iron Lung hits that part of me that watched horror movie on old VHS tapes as a kid, it has that B-movie horror vibe with its gritty visuals and creepy atmosphere. The gameplay is brilliant, it is my favourite type of horror, thinking imaginative horror, it's not what you see, it's what you THINK is out there, letting your brain slowly fill in the gaps between those perfect PS1 style pixels! it is absolutely stellar from start to finish. Iron Lung is a shining example of quality horror, by a very talented and passionate developer. Pick this gem up, 10/10!
After finishing MOLE I was craving something similar but with a heavy dose of claustrophobia & suspens. Oh man… if only I knew what I was getting myself into... Two straight hours of constant goosebumps, tensing up every single time before checking the developed photo. Even though the game looks pretty simple on the surface, it completely sucks you in and keeps you in a state of pure dread the entire time Spoiler:
The first time I saw something moving on the radar — getting closer and then instantly disappearing - I nearly jumped out of my skin. And that photo with the “eye”… ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I almost screamed out loud
The gameplay definitely isn’t for everyone. Navigating by coordinates and those early mistakes can be frustrating enough to make you want to quit. But trust me - push through it. Play it at night with the lights off. This game is absolute gold
Wow this was so cool they should make a movie of this.
Fire game
Short interesting game where you drive a submarine through a blood ocean. I like the atmosphere.
I really wish i could have played this game blind as i think it would have drastically improved my experience with it. I can't exactly remember when i first saw Mark's iron lung playthrough but it stuck with me very vividly so naturally i went to see the movie. I really liked what he did with the ip and have always liked the worldbuilding of Iron lung anyways, especially everything surrounding the quiet rapture. So I finally decided to play the game for myself, even moreso due to having beaten 'Mole' recently (an indie horror masterpiece that feels similar to iron lung but better). Despite being an unfortunately non-blind playthrough the game still pleasantly suprised me with one thing standing out in particular; the excellent sound design. I'm not joking when i say that the SFX are literally half of the experience here so you owe it to yourself to either play this game on a great big stereo or with some top of the line headphones. The sound design pairs so well with the restricted senses and claustrophobic environment to create a highly immersive experience that stimulates paranoia. The simple movement mechanics might seem boring at first but they feel like a breath of fresh air leading to innovative and suprisingly fun gameplay. It doesn't overstay its welcome and is perfectly paced in my opinion, an hour is exactly the right amount of time to get familiar with the systems before getting burnt out on them. A short and cheap experience that's worth playing for people who love excellent atmosphere and worldbuilding.
