Very fun and well-crafted metroidvania with a good variety of locations and mechanics as well as unexpected beat-'em-up inspired action. I love its Gina Sisters DS-like atmosphere and the catchy music! Intrepid Izzy is a wonderful platformer with very little to complain about. The visuals are pretty, the music is incredible and the controls are responsive. The story is minimal and underwhelming, but it's the gameplay that makes this game shine, even if the adventure itself is rather short and I am personally clocking in at 7 hours for 100%. Izzy's adventure has the player charter some eye-candy locations, all while meeting a small assortment of zany characters and some rather interesting enemy and boss designs that scream 'Shantae' inspired; Each area is covered in gems, coins, platforming challenges and baddies to beat up, along with some areas requiring minimal, and puzzle-like, backtracking once the appropriate power-up (costume) is at your disposal. The weakest parts of the game are the bosses, not by design but longevity; Keen eyes will take note of boss patterns quickly and lay the smack down after a few attempts of trial and error, however even the most skilled of players won't deal enough damage before they fall asleep; Bosses have way to much health, so even if you've mastered the pattern, you'll be repetitively bullying them for what feels like an eternity. The slow pace ultimately makes the player feel weaker than they are, and by my third playthrough I was really dreading the encounters despite being able to do a few without damage taken. ZZZzzz... My second, and final, complaint is the PC version itself; Coming from the SEGA Dreamcast release, where I 100% the game as mentioned prior, the PC release leaves a lot to be desired. Zero display options which results to using STEAM's launch parameters, Controller detection isn't automatic and the mappings must be manually configured if you actually want to use a controller -- the defaults are junk. Additionally, Izzy seems to struggle at higher resolutions; I played at 2560x1440 (2k) and there were a slew of rendering issues, and *spoilers* the Sea Monster boss was just unbeatable until I went to 720p; Couldn't see anything. For platforming, puzzle platforming and adventure fans, Izzy feels right at home; Slow bosses aside, this game will keep you entertained and engaged -- Did I mention the music? It's THAT good; Wish the soundtrack was available. If you can, I highly recommend picking up the SEGA Dreamcast version over this release; In all fairness, I only purchased on STEAM to support SenileTeam, but part of me really regrets it due to the lack of polish on PC. My time with the SEGA Dreamcast release however was flawless, and if it had actually released back in the day, it would have been a definite classic in everyone's eyes. The developer has done an incredible job with this game, but I cannot recommend the PC version to everyone. Buy this game!!!! ...but maybe not on PC!

Fans of old school 2D platformers will really like this excellent game. A lot of stylistic, thematic and gameplay elements take you back to the golden age of 2D gaming during the 1980s and 1990s and Intrepid Izzy combines those elements in a fun way. There is more than enough to explore with interesting level design, a nice sense of humor and plenty of surprises. Recommended!

Played the game at a friend's place before buying it. It's a classic platformer with great controls and a colorful world. I think lovers of the genre will really enjoy this game!

Intrepid Izzy is one of the most 90s Amiga game made outside the 90s and not on Amiga. And unlike most old Amiga games, Intrepid Izzy does not have the frustrating gameplay that made 90s kids cry for hours. Times were brutal back then. A good game that is almost a great game. 4/5 Pros: + Smooth animations and colourful graphics. Just like in the 90s. + Even more 90s is the wonderful soundtrack. Perfect music for punching kiwifruit looking monsters. + Uppercutting enemies to make them explode is, unsurprisingly, very fun. Cons: - Bosses are not too difficult, but they have lots of health. And almost no changes in attack patterns. So they become chores. - The different costumes are woefully underutilized. They are used for only like once each. So wasteful.

This is a case study on how important sounddesign is in a game. Visually the game is top notch but then you have 15 sec looping music and bad stock sound effects that really distract from the experience. I do recommend the game but only with the music turned off.
