YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Vol. 4 The Ride

The man trained for decades to [URL=https://steamcommunity.com/id/CharlieLima79/recommended/252730]prove he knows Jack[/URL], only to find [URL= https://steamcommunity.com/id/CharlieLima79/recommended/259940]there is a second one[/URL], then [URL= https://steamcommunity.com/id/CharlieLima79/recommended/259960]a third[/URL], and now there is a fourth! How many Jacks can there be? “This is ridiculous,” the man thought to himself. He was getting fatigued with the Jacks, especially after challenging them back to back. As he approached the fourth Jack, he decided this will be the last one. No matter the outcome, he would need to move on from his fixation on proving he knows Jacks. The fourth Jack, however, was different. When the man heard this Jack would take him on a ride of his life, he thought it was metaphorical. It turned out it wasn’t, for their many encounters to come would take place on elevator rides. Surprisingly and refreshingly, each ride had a theme, thus making this Jack stand out from his predecessors. This Jack really wanted the man to stay for many more rides, and did so by trying to tell a part of a bigger story each time. As interesting as this strategy was, the man grew impatient with Jack’s partial storytelling, and eventually parted ways with him. It pained the man slightly to do so, for this Jack was his favourite of the four Jacks. Yet, as previously noted, the man needed to address the backlog of other challenges that awaited him. In the end – elevator ride or not – all Jacks were cut from the same cloth. Challenging them back to back might not have been the best idea, but catching up with them once in a while would be nice, especially if a couple of friends tag along. And having met this fourth Jack, the man decided that he would not wait another three decades to prove he knows Jack again.

Don't trust my playtime on this game, its longer than you think and i had to install the game HERE while I was over halfway through so i edited my save file to the point i was last so my playtime is not accurate. Anyway, this is literally one of my favorite games ever and I am writing this as someone who's played every single episode. You Don't Know Jack has always been an amazing series, but The Ride is the best game out of the entire franchise, the writing, the humor, the hosts (all FIVE of them, Nate Shapiro, Buzz Lippman, Guy Towers, Cookie Masterson, and Schmitty!), the music, the art direction, the story (yes there is a story for this trivia game and YES there is spoilers), everything in this game is literally perfect to me, and I'm really only DECENT at this game. I'll start with the story, the story in this game is simple, the hosts fight over screentime (all while bullying the host Buzz Lippman) by sending eachother to the mysterious location known as "The Bottom", every couple of episodes (I know exactly how many but I'm not giving you spoilers), the current host gets sent to the bottom and you get a new host for the next couple of games, things WILL get more chaotic as the story progresses, but again, no spoilers! Throughout the game there will be mysterious references to "The Bottom", which can be some cool subtle reminders there is a story going on here. The episode format really helps with this game, as running gags can be formed, and episodes can go from having a somewhat normal topic to the most insane thing you could ever do trivia on. (Floor 169... iykyk) The writing as well in this game is GREAT, more than great, even. I love all of the hosts, they all have unique opinions, characteristics, interests, and I've CACKLED at some of the things they'd say, and even if they reference something I'm not familiar with (I am actually a whole decade younger than this game lmao), I still find it interesting hearing them rant about things. Along with that the hosts themselves bounce off eachother VERY well and I love every single interaction they have, just play it for yourself (preferably blind), you'll find some unexpected yet hilarious humor. Also even for characters that AREN'T the hosts, they're written well and can be really fun! :) The music in this game may not be paid attention too by many but I actually LOVE the music in this game! The main theme, the question and roulette themes, but my personal favorites are both of the Jack Attack themes and the Bingo theme (I mean, a HEAVY METAL version of bingo that absolutely SLAPS? wow), also, the graphics and aesthetic of this game is honestly the best of YDKJ, it gives massive punk vibes and the music helps support it! Okay, I've been talking about the story, the writing, the characters, the music, and the graphics, but we're talking about a GAME here, so what about the gameplay? Well, its a trivia party game, so of course everything is based around trivia, if you play by yourself (like I did) you can still have fun, but when you're playing multiplayer, like other YDKJ games, they introduce the Screws, which make the game further competitive because they're used to force your opponent(s) to answer, the screws have a unique twist in this game as well by covering the screen so it can even be a guessing game for whoever you're playing against. Anyway, as for the questions, theres unique question types, Dis Or Dat, Gibberish Questions, and even the new question types in this game, Bingo and Roadkill! And obviously at the end, what YDKJ is known for, is the Jack Attack. Even if you're not good at trivia (like me), you'll still have fun with the unique question types, the writing, the story, and the hosts! I could go on way longer about this game like detailing every host but its better if you actually play the game for yourself, despite its age and its on-rare-occasion outdated questions (1998 trivia game moment), it's one of my favorite games ever. You'll love You Don't Know Jack: The Ride, I'll promise :D

I loved these games back in the day

Some dated humor aside, this is easily the best You Don't Know Jack game. Great music (they really put their all into the music even though this is a silly trivia game), fun and engaging question types with the classic DisOrDat, Gibberish Question, and two fun ones you won't find in any other JACK game (Roadkill and Bingo, both of which are really good. Would love to see them return in the future), and the themed, more structured way the episodic stages are handled great. Absolutely recommend this game, it's a good time if you're looking to have fun with IRL friends and family. Also Nate Shapiro is the best of the hosts in this game. Love his attitude.
