Maybe i'll start with pros and cons first Pros - Your typical Visual Novel RPG, enyoyable yet don't seem to hard even at the hardest difficulty - Decent Background and CG Art - AWESOME BGM and Soundtrack! I really mean it - Not just some half-baked story, really deep actually - The system is really simple, it's really easy to learn the game. - QUEST ASSISTANT, its really good feature if u often forgot the quest - Affordable price, i'm glad the game is good Cons - Still had some bugs. - Screen resolution is a thing, if u play on FHD or bigger resolution you can see some of the art are pixelated so much. - For some people who want to challenge with hardest difficulty, it's not really that difficult. Trust me - Lack of impact in the stories. After you read some, you can figure the next. I hope this is wrong anyway - Grammatical error, i think you should fix this. For the rest i will redo this after i finished playing this. But overall the game is good, so i got no complain with this :)
Insurgence RPG is an RPGMakerMV game created by an Indonesian game developer. A lot of Indonesians might like the game a lot, but it’s still good for people around the world, too. First of all, I’ve played the pre-release version of the game for 15 hours (7 hours logged in, 6 hours on Offline Mode, 2 hours slacking off). Also, I have not played many RPGMaker games myself, but I will state what I know based on my limited experience.
Short Review:
Pros: + Intriguing story about political intrigue… nuff said. + Considerably balanced difficulty + Interesting attribute weakness/strength system + Decent graphics + CG Arts are a good addition + AWESOME music + Some Indonesian cultural references + Fair amount of content with dirt cheap price + Good devs response Cons: - A lot of grammatical errors - Some scenes were rushed - Some sprites are standard RPGMaker ones Neutral: = Your typical RPGMaker game = Standard battle system = UI design is good, but the icon layout did not feel intuitive at first = Full controller support, but with minimal guidance for keyboard users
In-depth review
Story The game tells a story about political intrigue. Basically, there was an evil plot devised by someone in a certain kingdom, and it’s up to the main character (who is the princess) to stop them. To start, the princess was tasked to hunt the leader of a rebellious faction. And then the adventure began… That may look like your standard JRPG story, but it is actually deeper than that. I will say no further though, to prevent any kind of spoilers. The plot is nice and well thought out, though the only and the most lacking of all would be the writing. Some grammatical errors also persist on the release version. This might be due to the lack of a good editor fluent in English on the developer side. However, the mistakes are mostly minor, so I think it will not leave a major impact to the story. In the pre-release version, there were some rushed scenes which will leave you, as the player, speechless. I have not checked whether this is still true in the release version though, but I will leave this here nonetheless. Gameplay Like many RPGMaker games out there, you will play a turn-based RPG (but with more tactical options). The action order is shown though, so you can plan more thoroughly than many other RPGMaker games. There are also 3 types of attack, Normal Attack which recovers 10 TP, Magic Attack which requires MP to cast but does not recover TP, and Special Attack which uses TP. There are also 2 types of healing items. One can be used inside combat, and the other is non-combat exclusive. Lastly, the game has a hidden attribute weakness/strength system which is kinda different from other RPG games. For instance, you may think that Fire is weak to Water, but in this game this is not the case. Fire is both strong and weak to ice but neutral to Water. So if you cast a fire spell on an ice enemy, it will deal a strong damage, and if you cast an ice spell on a fire enemy it will also deal a strong damage. However you will deal normal damage to water, and minimal damage to fire enemies. In short, Fire >><< Ice, Fire ==== Water, Fire …. Fire (hopefully this is understandable lol). Those 3 types of attacks, 2 types of items, and attribute weakness/strength system need to be utilized wisely to move on, since TP is limited to 100 for each character and they do not have much MP to cast spells anytime. However, if you are a veteran to turn-based RPGs I’m sure you’ll know all about those intuitively. On the matter of difficulty, if you have played similar turn-based RPG before, Normal difficulty is the good place to start. You can even go to Hard mode instead if you prefer more challenge. On the pre-release version even the Hard mode was so easy that I’ve beaten the final boss in less than a minute, but thankfully the developer addressed the issue and rebalanced the game. But if you just wanna enjoy the story, normal or lower is recommended. Graphics Well, some tilesets and NPC sprites are the ones you can see in every RPGMaker game, but let’s forget about that, and talk about the original ones. For the character design, I think it’s decent. They use anime-style character graphics, so for those turned off by anime, this game might not be for you. However, they are unlike those overly exaggerated anime characters using, like, absurd huge weapons, cute colorful costumes, cringe dialogues, etc. They all seemed… normal to me, which is a good thing. The UI graphics is also good enough. Pretty simple, but still good. It reminds me of Tales of Berseria UI graphics, though…. The only downside was that the way icons are laid out on the menu felt so confusing at first. Another thing I like was that there’s There are also some CG Arts to collect throughout the game. Some of them are good, while some others are not so. There is also another matter about the graphics, but I will say it on the following section. Sound & Music I think the strongest aspect of the game is the soundtrack that I’ve never even once get bored of them. The battle themes are so immersive, especially the boss themes. They might not be at Nihon Falcom’s or Nier’s soundtrack level, but at least they are immersive and very enjoyable. The only thing that I don’t like was the music that played on sad scenes, it felt so out of place to me. I also like the opening and ending themes, in which the singer was fleurishana. If you’re not an Indonesian, you may not heard of her though. Too bad the opening movie was low in frame rate and (perhaps) in not so good resolution though. Controls I have played the game both using a Logitech F710 Wireless Controller and a Keyboard, and I have not found any issues. There are different kinds of issue, though: Even if you are using a Keyboard, the interface is still showing Xbox controller input buttons. Also, there are some functions which are not explicitly stated IIRC. That is, using LB/RB, PgUp/PgDn or Q/E for cycling through characters on a menu, pressing → button for skipping a turn in battle, and ← button for an extra option (Retreat). Others The game is created by an Indonesian developer, so expect a lot of Indonesian cultural references being laid out here and there. Just like those Japanese games which add a lot of Japanese cultural references. The references are mostly about Indonesian foods, others are Indonesian jokes. If you are familiar with them, you will like those immediately, but if you don’t, you will not get them though. Overall When I was playing the pre-release version, I guessed that the price would be around $10. But to my surprise, it is actually half of that. The game has a good amount of content, despite being an RPGMaker game, so I think the game deserves more than $5. The game has a good story, gameplay, and music, after all. But I guess it’s a win-win both for the devs and the players, so eh, why not. For the price of a burger which you will consume in less than 10 minutes, you will get 10 hours amount of gameplay! It’s a steal, if I may say so myself. The game indeed has a lot of flaws, and many of them are not stated in my review. But judging by the game, it seems the dev will be developing another, or maybe some more games. I’m sure the future games will be much better, so I’m looking forward to it. The devs also seems to be highly responsive of feedbacks and bug reports so that’s a huge positive in my book. With all those, I’ll give an overall score of 6 out of 10 for this game.

I am a bit conflicted. As an rpg it is decent and on the hardest difficulty it is fun until you figure out that once you have all the 4 heroes there is no longer any use in buying any gear. The best gear is good yes but to expensive at 120k+ cost. You can buy books for 400 a pop that grant you 2 of any base stat at the library. So do that to max Rissa in Magic Attack then Diana in both Magic Attack and Regular Attack. this gives you two AoE Behemoths to just destroy any opposition. I simply used DIanas buff all special then nuked the last boss with the strongest specials and shaved little over half it's HP off then killed it in another rotation or two of regular attacks. One thing to be noted Characters level up oddly. you get a dude with a sword and I got him 10 levels below my other characters as I was a bit to leveled up at that point. After this I never went griniding again and the difficulty caught up. Odd thing is the sword dude was suddenly 10 levels above me as he required far less exp to level up making him wierdly powerful until I hit the level cap. Last word of warning if you are interested because of the low price, which makes the game worth it in my opinion, this is ACT 1 of what is possibly a series. If you like RPG maker games this one is decent enough if a bit of a let down due to the end being a to be continued.
Game hybrid RPG dengan elemen visual novel dari developer asal Denpasar, Bali. Title: Insurgence - Chains of Renegade. Length: Medium. Developer: Platonic Game Studio. Publishers: Something2. Release: 10 Nov 2018. Mature Content: 𝙉𝙊.
WARNING, may contain spoiler. Pros: + Awesome musics and graphics + unique storyline + helpful controller support + unique element strenght/weakness + Responsive devs Since this is review, i'll tell detailed cons to make sure the next project will be better: - A lot of grammatical errors; typo and space, need language reviewer. - Exagerrated symbols, like using exclamation or question syms more than one in one sentence. Use bigger fontsize to show the "shouting" text instead, as yanfly extended messages already featured this. - Passability errors, and this also happen in some events when a chara's foot or head "popup" between trees (only seen by detailed players) [minor bug] - Unconsistent land/building shadows, like some higher ground have shadow on a lower ground when the other map showed no shadow at all (may only seen by rpg maker users) [minor bug] - Rushed character development. Maybe because I'm usually watched drama with good character development, i feel they aren't feel right, like how can Van has a feeling to Lang, I don't find the moment their chemistry builded there and suddenly they looks liking each other during marriage event. Or maybe I don't see it? correct me if I'm wrong. Despite all, I still enjoy this game and wait for the second arc in the future. Good luck!
First off: I do not like long-form RPG Maker games. Shorts, memes, and experimental stuff is usually better suited for this style than full length games. That being said, I can tell this game has a lot of passionate people working on it. The art is decent and there's a lot of work being put in here. However, in the end it is still quite rough around the edges even from the very beginning of the game. The open scenes are slow and the RPG Maker graphics are not always cohesive (clipped sprites, rough backgrounds). The opening video has a grammatical error right away and it is not well paced or edited. This is a really strange case because it seems like the drawn art and music is high quality, but the editing, sound design, pacing, and story are pretty rough. There are a lot of grammatical errors and odd choices through the text of the game such as doubling of punctuation. As an example, in one of the first scenes after the opening there is a character that says something like, "Good !, be safe." The first 30 minutes of a game are the most critical for hooking a player and showing the potential but for this game it's not the best it could do. All that being said I can't say to not play it. If you like RPG Maker games, and are willing to look past the rough edges and slow gameplay this isn't really bad. There's good art here, and a story waiting to be told. If you get it on sale then it's not going to be a bad purchase if you're in it for the plot. It just could use some more polish and some further proofreading. I am interested to see if this team can come together to eventually make a solid game from the ground up or just go with a VN format instead.
Already following the developer on Facebook I believe since beginning of development, but too bad I miss the chance of pre ordering the game. Just have time recently for making my own steam account and of course decide to buy this game. There are so many Jokes and Easter eggs that probably only able to be understood by Indonesian. such as "Bernard Mahfoudz" jokes, "Ceby" & "Empret", Food & Beverages name and so on. The game itself is pretty straightforward, Like traditional JRPG. Turn Based Front View. But with very polished Anime styled graphics. that makes this game looks somehow modern. And the music? I personally really like the music, agree with most reviewers, the music in this game is the best, probably strongest aspect of this game is the music. But still this game also have a fair share amount of bugs and glitches, but not fatal only minor ones such as there are some text that out of the window text sometimes, or when escape the battle sometimes text are not centered and Passability/HItbox issues on some map. But other than that, This game is Good
Very nice RPG Maker Game, Able to customize almost any aspect of the game which is very rare from RPG Maker Game Developer. Not done playing this game yet, but if the description is true, it has 10 hrs of content. which is again, very rare for RPG maker game. The BGM is the main things in this game, Music just good. Battle theme, Town theme ( That one on Port town on Chapter 2 i really like it ) With that kind amount of resource and talent you guys have, judging by how well designed the Art, UI, Music you guys should move on to Unity or something.
I'll say this first: Buy it immediately! This is a good game, for sure. Well, let's make it fast. This is a classic-like RPG mixed with visual novel stuff. Means that this unique game brings a new and different yet nostalgic feeling of playing your classic RPG back in your old days. Okay. RPGs are demanded to have good story to show, yeah, because the players are hoping for "role play". Literally. And Insurgence - Chains of Renegade fulfills that requirement; having a good story. Well, it's not only "good", I say. The story turns more complicated as your progress in the game, brings some conflicts live. And since it's "mixed" with visual novel stuff, we have to make sure the art presented. And the art; CG arts are greatly exquisite. No kidding, they are well made and represented the story itself. Really, I am not bored looking at those great arts in the artbook. So, what about the music? No exaggeration, but the music is really, really amazing. It compossed by a real professional. It brings the story to live and surely will take your ears to the depth of enjoyment. What more? Man, it's cheap! This is a must play if you're a fan of RPGs and a friend of classic-like games. What if you're not? You still have to play it; it will be a good start for you, you will may like it somehow. So, stop reading other review and put the game into your cart right now.
An RPG with decent visual and enjoyable soundtracks. This game has an interesting story, aside from it's grammatical errors. I also like how they managed to mix a top down RPG with visual novel elements. There are minor bugs here and there, like passability for example. But I'm enjoying the game so far.
