IRFN has the familiar mechanics of IF text games: there's a situation, you're given a set of choices, and the story progresses and branches depending on your choices. "Why are you telling me this," I hear you ask, "I'm perfectly capable of reading the store page description and looking at the screenshots." See, you say that, but I've seen takes, man. I've seen TAKES. Anyway. Your grandpa is dead. This is the second review in a row where I write that, so MAYBE people should start wising up and not be related to protagonists. Sucks to be them. It's great for you, though, because the old man was INCREDIBLY LOADED, and you're in line to inherit. Unfortunately, so is the rest of your family, and boy you wouldn't imagine the level of trash these people are. And it's even worse than that: according to the (hot) family lawyer, one of you is a murderer, and the inheritance is going exclusively to whichever one of you turns them in to the cops. Fortunately, the competition starts to thin as MOAR MURDER takes place. Unfortunately, you're the prime suspect and the detective REALLY loves their handcuffs (and isn't too particular who they're put on). Oh, and the prime news channel keeps airing all your family's dirty laundry and tanking the family company's stock. Can you and your (crushing) bodyguard find out whodunnit before you - or your fortune - get done? Be that cryptid - the classy rich person -, a completely spoiled rich brat, or something in between... but be it while you can, because everyone in your family is at risk of coming down with an acute case of murder. THE GOOD: + The story runs in the vein of Agatha Christie's work (or, for you young' uns out there, Knives Out), and it runs well. + You CAN get all the clues to try to figure out who the murderer is, and you DO get told if you made the right call. + Keavy's POV scene is hilarious, plus sprinkled humour here and there, that doesn't deter from the tone of the story. + See rich people panic. + All of your family are terrible people, and you get to tell them to ♥♥♥♥ off and die... well, the ones that don't actually die in the meantime. No forcing you to be nice to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ here! THE BAD: - There's a couple of typos and a couple of missed contractions. Nothing that'll take you out of the story or make it hard to understand what's going on, but I thought I'd mention them anyway. - More investigative freedom might be nice... on the other hand, that might result on you missing the opportunity to get a vital clue by sheer bad luck, so maybe we're better off this way. THE [strike]UGLY[/strike] YMMV: +- Not much replayability, if any. You can use a back option to pick a different option to see what happens in the short-term, and for the long term there's save slots. I don't generally replay story-driven games anyway, but I know some people do so I thought it might be helpful to mention. Due to back and save options, you can see everything in one playthrough, so yay. +- The plot thickens at the end, as a setup for a sequel - that means that, while IRFN IS a complete case, the story continues with further implications in a future game. You may like that (I do), you may not.
It starts with a crime riddle premise, but it forgoes it for cheap writing tricks. Instead it try hards to be "serious-remorse", but it fails. Without solid planting of the themes at the beginning, the game feels poorly edited and incoherent. It really tries to put cute queer and kinky romances as a stopgaps for any meaningful plot resolution. Dissapointment. Too many opened venues, too little weight on player's decisions. Too much cheap tricks (like "this is the double meaning of your action, which your character should know but you do not know as the author did not bother to tell to make the shock"). 2,5/5, there are better VNs / text based games.
knives out but you can be gay and flirt with everyone
Love this game. Kind of short but sweet, there was a palpable amount of suspense. And the romances are super cute!
Trans inclusive, fun mystery, can be gay, I want Keavy to cuddle me and love me and tell me everything is going to be okay, some of the best smut I've read in an IF game. Strong recc
Do you like playing the board game “Clue”? This story has a lot of detective shenanigans, plus cute people to smooch! The game is on the shorter side, but the story is really well written and has a cast of lovable characters (and a lot of not-so-lovable ones, but even hating them is fun). I had a lot of fun reading!
I found this on itch.io while browsing, and the premise intrigued me. Little did I know it would take over my brain until I finished it! I immediately loved it from the demo on itch, and raced to buy it on Steam. It kept me on my toes up until the very end, and the twists were exquisite! Can't wait for book 2!!!
:) sooo stressful trying to figure out who it was but so much fun and a great read
Awesome game
The murder plot was intriguing. The family are rich douche bags, but family is family and I liked them in a way. The love interests were sweet. The erotica was short, but didn't overstay its welcome either. Overall, Pretty Good.
