A short but impactful experience Imaginary Friend Institution is a relatively short game but it delivers a powerful story that stays with you. It builds on Imaginary Friend Asylum really well and feels like a natural continuation of the world and its themes. The pacing is tight, the atmosphere is strong, and the emotional beats land exactly where they should. I enjoyed my time with it and I am looking forward to chapter 2.
Very fun and unique game. Would highly recommend. The story is the highlight of this game.
I adore these games with all m heart and will continue to boast about them to everyone I can! The historical factors are so nice to see and have a grand amount of accuracy I'm on the edge of my seat for a new game and managed to get some new friends to want to cosplay the characters after playing the second game for them! I absolutely adore all of the outfits the style and the unique story!
This game is a hidden gem. The low poly PS1 inspired art style gives it such a nostalgic feel that I couldn’t help but fall in love with it immediately. The sewing patterns and outfit changes were such a cute addition too I loved being able to change Annabelle’s look. The story is really interesting, watching everyone’s imaginary friends come to life at Grimwell State Institution kept me hooked, and the voice actors did a good job bringing the characters to life. Just a heads up: this is a slow paced story game. The controls are super straightforward just arrow keys, your mouse, and E to interact. Nothing demanding, so anyone can play it. For a smaller indie game, it delivers a solid experience. That said, I do wish the other characters felt more integrated into the world. During scenes like laundry or class, they’re just standing or sitting around instead of actually doing things. More NPCs moving through the hallways would’ve made Grimwell feel more alive, though maybe the emptiness is intentional to keep that eerie vibe. Watching Annabelle’s reality unravel is genuinely unsettling in the best way. Annabelle deserves all the happiness in the world and I’m rooting for her! I really enjoyed this game and I’m looking forward to Chapter Two! P.S. I really hope the devs consider adding to the Steam Point Shop wallpapers, emoticons, and badges for this game would be so cute!
This game is a hidden gem, and i have no doubt about that after the 17 min intro scenes, looking forward for Chapter 2, looking to start playing this when it arrives. Also please add 60/120 PFS support in game.
I was super excited to play this game and, after a very busy past few weeks, I was finally able to sit down and relax long enough to do so! And I was NOT disappointed!! The game is absolutely gorgeous and the characters are so well designed, old and new! I really loved meeting the new characters, too! They were so great! Of course, I was most excited to see my faves, once more: Polo, Niccolo, Annabelle and Pooky! I just adore their IFI designs and voices! The only issue I had was the movement being annoyingly sluggish (no doubt due to my laptop, as it's not quite a gaming one, so that's no fault of the dev or game). I'm guessing IFI is more high in quality and such than IFA and my laptop just had trouble running it smoothly. I'll have to see if a future update might be able to fix that. Still, I didn't let that stop me from playing and enjoying the latest installment to my favorite indie game series! Despite that little hiccup, the gameplay was still fun! I love that you get control of more than one character, at times, and hope there's more of that come Chapter 2! I was thoroughly engrossed in the story, which is why I say darn you for that cliffhanger! I REALLY want to know what the deal is why that happened! I'm so eager to know! The writing was also so good; the dialogue made me laugh quite a few times and it's so awesome seeing and hearing some familiar faces and names, again! There were also a few times I came close to crying! I truly felt the pain and emotions and could even relate to some bits of the story! The voicework was also wonderful; everyone did an excellent job! Overall, I am completely invested in where this game is going to go and cannot WAIT until Chapter 2 comes out! I'm DEFINITELY wishlisting it!! Grant, Anna and everyone involved with the IF series, keep up the amazing work! You always have my support and love! I'm such a big fan of this series!!
I have played the game and it is such an underrated gem! Looking forward to seeing the future chapters soon!
Too sad. Seriously. We're beyond "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" sad. This one goes into "Requiem For A Dream" meets "Schindler's List". I could not get past the fridge part, it was so sad. The game before this one? Yes, it was sad. But it felt like a story. There was more farfetched horror than realism. This one went into a realm of child abuse that was too real and too upsetting. I have no disrespect for the people who made this game! I couldn't design a game. This is very obviously armchair refereeing. But I cannot in good conscience recommend the experience I endured in the first 15-20 minutes.
Played the Whole Series and I love it cant wait for the following Chapter.
I had no idea there had been another entry to the series but I'm so happy I was able to find and play it. I loved the other two games so much! This entry into the series is a different from the others in a few different ways. The main one is the visual to the characters. The human characters in the first and second game were just silhouettes. I think it added to the uncanny feel to the game and the overall environment and feeling. This game has pretty detailed characters in an anime-style. I think it adds to the uncanny feeling in a completely different way. It's almost like a haunted doll type of look. I actually really like it. So far, the gameplay is really simple. It's mostly been a walking simulator up until this point with a lot of cutscenes, narration and time skips. The first game was mostly minigames, with the second having at least some minigames throughout. There's only really been one so far, with the occasional button press to do some actions. I'm not a huge fan of that kind of gameplay, though I think that will change as I play. Though, I will say, you should go into this one with patience and understanding. It is quite clunky and unoptimized. I was definitely taken out of the story a few times just due to some things. Things like the camera glitching out, the movement being weird and the sometimes awkward voice acting. During a part where a nurse leads you around the asylum, I just... left. I completely walked out of the building and wandered around for a bit. No consequences. But I did find that certain parts of the outsde lag the game out a ton. Though this game gets all of my love just for baby Pooky. 100/10 no notes <3 I really hope the devs go through with chapter 2. I need more of these games please!
