It's a racing game but you can do a lot better. So don't bother turning the key and igniting this one.
Meh it's a bit mediocre at times but over all not a terrible little arcade racer. The physics are good enough and the cars look nice. There are a variety of game modes and a full 'campaign' to keep you busy. Tons of boosting and super silly arcade drifting to be enjoyed here if you are into racing games. :-)
Edgy racer that tries to be another NFS. Game have more arcade feeling. You get points for drifting and wreaking havoc but unlike Flatout vehicles don't get obliterated, there's no car destruction whatsoever. Smashing into track boundaries will decrease points. So basically score high and get high. Controls are ok, not terrible but there's no controller support. Tracks are somewhat mediocre. Visuals up to 1080p. Music is ok. Overall very mediocre racing game. PS: Run in compatibility mode with Win XP
As not a big racing fan genre, this is perhaps my 2nd or 3rd racing game in my years of playing games. The last one I remembered playing dirt 3 only which I liked of course. I can say, Ignite feels like as if you are driving a car in Grand Theft Auto Vice City or San Andreas only with no traffic and Racing Mode. Running the same race twice in Ignite is a bit of a long shot. The key factor in the game is SCORE. In Ignite, you collect your score while racing and every stunt or maneuver that is performed will award you with a certain number of points. Hitting objects, driving fast, drifting and drafting all add to your accumulated score. When you reach 1000 points, you can burn away your score as nitro, thus getting an edge over the others. This time, when I chose to make a switch from shooting and FPSes to something racing, I felt boasted and refreshed with Ignite and even for a hardcore Racing haters, this is something that should never go missed. It isn't really a challenging racing game and not many tracks and maps can be found with little variations with buttery smooth car controls, but at the end of the day, it will evoke the hidden racer inside you, to try out more racing games out there or just keep playing this one for as long as you can. Pros:- 1. arcade racing game 2. nice graphics 3. nitrous system with points 4. about 10 hours of fun 5. works on Windows 8.1 6. fairly playable on nVidia 9600 7. works with controllers Cons:- 1. physics is too easy, you don't need to brake at all 2. Not quite challenging (in campaign you can choose the fastest cars to easiest missions) 3. bad AI in some situations 4. dead multiplayer Also, next few lines are devoted to the developers and those who made this game possible and to this incredibly fast-paced racing game, Do you ever feel already buried deep Six feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing Do you know that there's still a chance for you 'Cause there's a spark in you? You just gotta IGNITE the light and let it shine Just own the night like the 4th of July 'Cause, baby, you're a firework Come on, show 'em what you're worth Make 'em go, "Ah, ah, ah" As you shoot across the sky You just gotta IGNITE the light and let it shine Just own the night like the 4th of July Boom, boom, boom Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon It's always been inside of you, you, you And now it's time to let it through, -ough, -ough Baby, you're a firework Come on, let your colors burst Make 'em go, "Ah, ah, ah" You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe Boom, boom, boom Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon Boom, boom, boom Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
----------------------------------------------- A very ARCADE racing game that I can't recommend for this price, maybe on a discount for pennies or for free, but there are better free racing games than this one. To start with, the graphics are poor even for a 2011 game, the gameplay is simple and the game is very easy once you choose the right car, finally the "campaign" is just a list of linear races and the points system basically rewards you for crashing into obstacles and drifting for no specific reason.
Ignite is a racing game, where you collect point via drifting, crashing into things on the road and slip streaming and using it for nitrous for victory. The game is easy to play, controls are simple and the rules of the game is understandable. Also, the game's campaign is short to playthrough. But this is basically the only positive thing I can tell about Ignite. One of the main problem with the game is the controls, because the game has easy control layout, however driving in the game is quite difficult. It's like playing Need for Speed 2015 again: your car always wants to go drift mode, meanwhile you can really make a turn properly. Also in the campaign, there were lot of times, when one of my competitor started to rubberband like hell with nothing basically, making the game difficult. The game's multiplayer dead and there is no story in the camping. Also when you finish the game, you get nothing at the end, but truth to be told, what you unlocked in the single player is usable in multiplayer. About the sounds: the music not too bad, but it's generic and the sound effects are sometimes so generic, you are not even notice them or just quite in general. Playing this game with controller should be a good idea, however I couldn't bind the triggers and the joystick to any of the action in the game. However, the default controls do this for you, but still, it's just weird you can't do this. Playing with the controller however is basically playing with the keyboard, because you can't smooth turn with the joystick, it's basically the same control input like you would press a button, which sounds silly, but this is how the game works. All in all, the game is playable and you can beat it under 2 hours, but there is no point getting. I can't recommend this game, maybe under for 1€ or around it.
nice racing game, with cool game mechanics and lot of content. Graphics little bit old style but game is rather old. would recommend
Intro
Don't be fooled by these positive reviews: Ignite is a terrible racing game. I have a video talking about it's issues, but for the sake of the Steam review, I also listed out the issues in written form below. https://youtu.be/OhW65NlRqic
Visuals
It's hard to not to address the glaring aspect when first looking at this game: its visuals. Being this is an indie game, we shouldn’t expect triple A graphics of 2011. Even when considering this, the game still looks ugly. It has very low texture quality, lacks a lot of object detail, and pop in is very noticeable. Much of the effects, lighting, and shadows are also low quality. You can even see where the ground ends on some parts of the environment. It's a shame that visuals weren't polished enough, especially that other indie games around that time had a much better presentation.
Sense of Speed
The sense of speed in Ignite is quite bad. We are supposedly going over 250 KPH and yet it feels like I’m going half that. The camera does pull back a bit, but it has no shake, and no FOV increase when reaching higher speeds. The only time the game feels somewhat fast is when boosting, but it's unbearable to look at. The camera shakes so violently, and the motion blur is extremely excessive. Thankfully, the motion blur can be turned off, but the fact that the developers were fine with how boosting looked is baffling to me.
AI
The AI is laughably bad. They don't pose much of a challenge as they aren’t aggressive, and you can usually out pace them very easily. They also have a hard time navigating the track properly. They can’t slide their car when turning like the player can, so they understeer into every corner. This means they constantly hit the walls, get stuck, and have to respawn. They also have trouble staying on the road, hopping on sidewalks and hitting the side walls. All of these problems make the AI just not fun to race against.
Score & Nitro
Ignite heavily marketed itself on its score system. During the race, you gain points from drifting, hitting objects, drafting and driving, I’m not kidding. This score also doubles as your nitrous, so using your boost will deplete these points. It also can help you at the end of a race since your score will reduce your finishing time in the event. While this might sound cool on paper, its execution is horrendous. You gain way too much points, especially with some skins that give points bonuses. The AI also doesn’t do a good job managing their score, so you can usually win events by not using your nitrous, or using it very infrequently. I had times where I saved up so many points that I could hold my boost down for the entire next lap without a fear of losing the event. I even won a race by not using the boost at all. Despite finishing 24 seconds after my opponent, I had enough points to completely negate this. There is very little skill or strategy needed, which completely defeats the purpose of this system.
Tracks
The track design in Ignite is very simplistic, but not in a good way. There are no jumps and only a few shortcuts. The roads are usually pretty wide with hardly any narrow sections or hazards in the road. While there are some evaluation changes, the tracks are still mainly flat. There also aren't really any interesting set pieces or landmarks that would make you remember these courses. These courses are some of the most bog standard tracks in a racing game.
Physics
*sigh*, where do I even start with the physics? Well firstly, there is no deformation model. Your car will get dents and scratches, but that's all the visual damage you'll see. There is no crumpling of body panels nor parts falling off. Secondly, your car is just a brick wall. When the AI drivers hit your car, they bounce right off you. This means you don’t even have to worry about your opponents messing you up. You can also push around the other racers quite easily. Pinning them against a wall can send them flying away or even phasing them into the ground. Thirdly, the handling model is very weird. It feels rather floaty due to the car’s rear end kicking out way too much. The drifting slows you down considerably, which means you don't even need to brake for many turns. When turning without drifting, every car understeers heavily. This is especially annoying when it feels like you should have entered a slide, but the game just refuses to. Overall, you get this inconsistent, imprecise handling model that you need to actually feel for yourself because it's just that awkward. Lastly, I can’t forget about the underwhelming prop physics. Props don’t break at all on impact and are not sending flying with force when hit. There is hardly any momentum transfer from the vehicles to the props, so they fly over or around the car slowly every time. These are some of the most unsatisfying props I've ever hit in a racing game.
Ending
While Ignite is certainly not as bad as other racing games I played, it's still a very disappointing experience. From its ugly graphics, horrendous AI, exploitable score system, bad sense of speed, boring track design, and strange physics, this game failed to ignite anything.
