What I have to say about IDUN is pretty much the same as the rest of what you'll see in the reviews, both the Negative AND the Positive. At it's core IDUN is a game I WANT to play. Holding the line against relentless hordes of vermin using a bunch of different guns almost never feels boring and the times is does, it's shaken up by the (admittedly small) pool of different mission types beyond the "hold out till the timer runs down" kind of missions. It's got a tight gameplay loop of going into missions, picking upgrade both during and between, rinse and repeat. But then there's the times where i REALLY don't want to be playing IDUN and it's pretty much anytime a character in this game starts talking. It's pretty apparent from the jump that all the VO is done by AI in the form of text to speech, and it physically hurts to listen to it. Having actual voiced lines in a game CAN elevate it, look at the difference between the Rouge Trader game and Baldur's Gate 3, and paying for Voice Actors to come in and record can be pricey for an Indie studio. But going for full AI voice over should not be the answer if you want VO in your game and can't afford to pay actors. It got to the point in this game where i wound up enjoying it more AFTER I had turned off dialogue. Honestly, I think I would have preferred it more if it was just (real) grunts or little chirps at the beginning of each line. In the interest of fairness, the devs do disclose that AI Generated content is in the game, but it's all the way at the bottom of the game description, that disclosure isn't in the actual game, and there's any info on what way Gen AI images are used. The TL;DR of this whole thing is that IDUN has a lot of potential but it winds up getting bogged down by horrendous Gen AI and all the baggage that comes with it. I don't want to bust out the torch and pick forks, but I'm just disappointed that the fun I was having was marred by just the hot, hot garbage that is Gen AI. I really don't know whether or not to recommend, but at least you know what you're getting into now.

Kinda flaccid, game works fine but overall everything just ends up underwhelming, especially at the end where the final mission is just a normal mission which is extremely anti-climatic. AI voices are fairly gormless, game really doesn't need voices at all honestly but if needed I'm sure a few dollars could be spent on real people to make an infinitely better job, can't be worse than "Okay, now that was epic" do note that reading it as text has as much impact as the delivery from the AI again, flaccid. If there's any notes I'd give it'd be: Hire real human VAs, remove AI 'enhanced images' and add more oomph to the overall experience; make em bugs crunchy, make em guns punchy, make em explosions big bangy and most of all: make the last mission more unique.
Generic tower defense game but with AI "voice actors" that deliver a very monotone dialogue that makes the already boring story even more dull.
Rock solid mix between RTS and TD. Protect main drill until it gather enough minerals. Place towers and your captain on the field. Destroy rocks to place new drills and increase resource mining. Towers and captain can be moved anytime hence RTS element. During gameplay orbs appear which contain 3 random perks but player can only choose one. Perks might improve towers, captain or contain bundle of new towers to build. Air strike can be used from mothergunship to obliterate swarms of incoming creatures and cannons can shoot freely anytime where the cursor is, ammunition replenish itself over time. Plenty of different missions like 4 minutes survival, boss base assault, where you have to protect and escort nuke to enemy's base. In some missions you can control mech and grab huge gold nuggets and throw them in the well or just protect excavator until it finish resource farming. After each successful mission upgrade equipment on the skill tree then move on to the next mission. Also terrain is changing to some degree making some spots filled with acid and yes, it affects where towers can be placed safely. Game gets intense. What I would like to see: + More terrain destruction + More guns + Better aiming cursor (reticle) Just like in Deep Rock Galactic - ROCK N STONE!
for free overall alright.
"One of my greatest talents is sleeping, I can do it with my eyes closed" and similar jokes will bend the mouth to smiley, so I do recommend the Tutorial :) The game was surprisingly challenging at some times, I really like what one can achieve with both careful placements and quick turret relocations. On the Mech missions you can WASD the mech while commanding the turrets with the mouse, it's quite action packed and it feels good to slaugther the hordes of monsters (I had a positive Starship Troopers wibe :) ). Currently only the Tutorial and the Raid modes are active. The Raid seems to be a rogue-like option, fighting through 10ish maps with the selections of "pick 1 from 3" continuous upgrades. Actually the maps are random, if you fail on a certain map and restart it, it will randomize the layout, which can lead to easier or harder gameplay so you could technically fish for a good map in case that is necessary but the game was not THAT hard. For some reason on the very last map little to no enemy came until the very end, that was kind of weird, actually that was the easiest map but maybe it was just a random (un)luck. The game offers 2 control methods, the Traditional and the Neutrowhatever.. Maybe I did not fully understand how the Neutrowhatever works but it felt me waaaay slow compared to what the game demanded from me so I just stick to the Traditional. The new stuff supposed to start an increasing circle at leftmousebutton hold but most of the time it just selects something and nothing happens. The Traditional is the DrawABoxToSelect. All in all, I'm curious about the final game and the pricetag as I had much fun so far. Spoliler
The BIG toxic bugs are quite easy to kill as they rotate slowly, so you just have to stand behind them with the Mech or the Daddy
Game has a LOT of potential. I will say that before I really get into this review I am not someone that frequents tower defense games. However, this feels much more hands on and engaging that your typical idle tower defense game. If you have ever played something similar to the classic Bloons. This is NOT that in terms of gameplay. Your typical mission will have you mining resources from a nearby node. Mining enough resources grants you a drop where you make a selection between 3 random and different items. Varying between more turrets, a friendly NPC, or upgrades to your current loadout. Along with all of this, you will also have various support from a nearby gunship you always control, such as gatling fire or mine placement. What differs in this game from your bloons style TD games, is you will be constantly moving and shifting your equipment to meet your defense needs for any given moment. The waves ARE ENDLESS, and you will be doing this on the fly. There is no small cooldown period where you can gather yourself or regroup. You either scale properly and have good placement, or your die. All of which is a fun, and handled very well in my opinion. I suspect the full game will feature a plethora of unlockable units, turrets, ect. The ONLY major flaw I am seeing in this game so far, is the voice acting. I am so sorry to the devs if you and your friends voice acted for this, but at times, it sounds fairly AI generated. Not all the time, but there are several moments where the voices are severely lacking in... emotion? The characters all seem very unique from each other, and they all have a unique sound to match. But it really just seems like it's filtered through an AI generator at time. This should not be a major deal breaker from the gameplay. Try the game, it's very much worth your time. There's some love put into this game and it shows. I very much look forward to the release of the full game!
