Very fun roguelike with a big variety of play styles to choose from, so the gameplay rarely gets boring: there is a Pokémon ranger-like that damages the enemies by drawing circles around the enemy, there is literal gun, a fist and much more. The enemy variety is great, but boss of each section is always the same, which makes me wish there was some variety for it, maybe with more files on future updates. I really enjoy the nerd stuff as a CS graduated and specially the file name references. The psychedelic balatro-inspired background is very nice, too. I really like the music, it fits the game, being chill while exploring the files and more energetic during battle. During a run, you can get stat updates, passive and active items. The passive items have good variety, but I wish the active ones could be more easily recharged, which makes them way less useful imo. Even as an early access, the game is very good, with great gameplay variety, novel dungeon crawling and lovely visuals. Overall I recommend it.
This is a game where you gat an upgrade that doesn't do what you think it does and then you instantly die. 10/10 Would ragebait then kill the shopkeeper again. Also DVD :)
Really unique concept and tons of fun. I wouldn't suggest this for someone with carpal tunnel or wrist issues. I can only really do one run at a time as well because this game is really tough on the wrist. Maybe I am not good enough at it yet, but it seriously challenges your ability to click fast, or spin the mouse. Do not play with low DPI. However, warning aside, I really have enjoyed my time with this game and I look forward to the devs making more progress. Hopefully this will not fall victim to the early access curse and be abandoned.
a lot more fun than i expected well done 10/10 SD verified
Repetitive strain injury
It's freezing and crashing, and I don't want to start another run like this. I'm not sure if it's a new windows thing, recent update also broke older nw.js based engines. But I also wasn't very happy with the visual indications of enemies - having to be close to them to deal damage, but then getting near none warning for when they toss their projectiles around. I suppose it's a lot of memorisation if I'd really want to see this through. The humour is on point though, I love that part.
Identifile: Desktop Dungeon is a unique rogue-lite dungeon crawler and action computer game. Unlike most dungeon crawlers, this game is set within a simulated computer operating system, with its four disk drives as its dungeons. The objective of this game is to use the cursor of your choice, even with its own playstyle, to fight back computer viruses, each with its own attack pattern, and defeat the four boss viruses, whilst avoiding enemy fire. The point-and-click combat in this game is reminiscent of that of the Fly Swatter mini-game in Mario Paint for the Super Nintendo. And not all selectable cursors require you to click on enemies to defeat them. This can help reduce hand strain, especially when you do not feel like rapid-clicking. For example, the Selection Cursor only requires you to hover your mouse over viruses to attack them via damage-per-second (DPS). The Recycling Cursor requires you to hover your mouse over collectible files to use as a rotating barrier, much like the Leaf Shield, and similar weapons in the Mega Man series. As you play this game multiple times, you are more likely to unlock new cursors to experiment with, as well as equippable in-game mods to improve your chances of victory. For example, one of the unlockable mods also you to start your run with a random sub-weapon. Another unlockable mod increases your maximum health by one heart. All in all, Identifile: Desktop Dungeon is a simple but thrilling and unique dungeon-crawling experience which pays homages to various pre-existing games and online media, past and present. So, if you are a fan of dungeon-crawling games or are looking for a unique retro-PC experience, Identifile may be the game for you.
I think that the premise of the game is quite fun. When you have the right augments the run becomes super easy and when you don't well, the run is extremely challenging. Right now, the part that annoys me the most is that sometimes when I encounter a battle or a boss the game will lag uncontrollably and eventually crash. There is currently no autosave progress so I lose the entire run if my computer crashes out during the battle. For now, I can't recommend the game until it's fixed. Edit: So it seems if I play in full screen mode, the game crashes a lot. I changed it to borderless and I haven't crashed since doing that.

👉 Nacarat | Indies Together
