Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
A Timeless Classic Still Thrills
I’ve played every major RPG that shipped on PC in the last decade, but none have captured the same raw, turn‑based excitement of Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition quite like the original did. This version keeps everything that made the 1998 classic a legend—strategic combat, deep character builds, and a hauntingly beautiful world—while polishing up some technical snags that kept me from fully enjoying it back then.
Visuals & Sound
The art style is faithfully preserved: clean 2‑D sprites with crisp borders that look just as good on a 1080p screen as they did on my old CRT. The soundtrack, featuring Bobby McFerrin’s iconic “A Day in the Life,” remains hauntingly atmospheric, and the sound effects are now clearer thanks to updated audio drivers.
Gameplay
Turn‑based combat still feels tense and rewarding. Each decision matters; a misstep can bring your whole party down. The new UI makes character sheets easier to read, and the “Party View” feature helps keep track of status effects without scrolling through menus. Minor tweaks to AI timing make battles feel snappier while preserving the strategic depth that made the original so addictive.
Party Building
The Enhanced Edition expands the roster of classes and subclasses, giving you more flexibility in building your dream party. I enjoyed experimenting with a Wizard‑Rogue‑Cleric combo and adding a Bard for morale boosts—something I couldn’t do back in 1998! The balance is still tight; overpowered builds are rare, which keeps the challenge alive.
Replayability
Randomly generated dungeons mean no two playthroughs feel identical. Even after dozens of runs, you’re still discovering new layouts and monsters. The Steam Workshop support also lets you add custom content, keeping the game fresh for newer players.
Bottom Line
If you grew up on PC RPGs or simply love a well‑crafted turn‑based adventure, Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is a must‑play. It respects its roots while providing enough polish to run smoothly on modern systems. Grab it today and relive the thrill of navigating Frostbite’s unforgiving tundra—your party will thank you.

A classic that had aged like a fine wine
Classic atmospheric dungeon crawling goodness.
great game consistent with dnd rules (you can be as complex as you want); long campaign with many dungeons that made sense; very satiflying.
great game. just as good a bg1, and almost as good as bg2. I've played it multiple times and I'm revisiting right now.
If you like real-time with pause and Infinity Engine RPGs, you'll love it. Though there is Less story, there's also more action.
I just (a few weeks ago as I write this) played Icewind Dale for the first time since it initially released, around 2000 I guess. It was worth playing, but I think it might be a hard sell to someone who isn't looking at it through a lens of nostalgia. The mechanics aren't well-explained, for one thing, and I don't think AD&D2e really holds up. And there are technical aspects that I'd call essentially broken. I'm thinking specifically of the pathfinding, which is utterly *terrible*. Characters constantly get stuck on each other or the geometry, and often take routes you don't want them to. There's a setting in a config file to increase the amount of compute it uses for pathfinding, and a mod that supposedly adds "enhanced pathfinding", but I'll be honest -- neither of them seemed to help very much. The combat is pretty fun, though, if you go into it knowing what you're getting. It's interesting to compare this to Baldur's Gate 1, which I also just played. IWD's combat was a lot more engaging to me, even on the lower levels where 2e doesn't give you much to do. And there's less bullsh ... uh bullcrap design where out of nowhere you hit something so far out of your depth that you can't win without cheese. Which is not to say that IWD is without difficulty spikes. There are two boss fights in particular that caused me trouble, I think a little too much trouble if I'm being honest. But I persevered in the end. It's been so long since I played the original that I can't comment on everything the enhanced edition conversion changes. But everything technically played fine, the UI scaled appropriately, widescreen support was great, and I can't imagine playing without the ability to zoom in and out of the play area or being able to tab to highlight things I can loot or open. Now it's on to IWD2 (which I never got to play back in the day). No official enhanced edition for that, alas.
Good challening gameplay! And interesting story.
Having played the game when it originally came out, and playing it again today... it just doesn't hold up. Even beyond the (objectively terrible) modified 2e rules, the game has severe balance inconsistencies throughout that make it very easy to get caught in unplayable situations. That's... just not fun.
