Since the original 2011 version, Ice Demon has always been a tight, finely tuned arcade experience but its main problem may have been how repetitive it got with only a limited number of enemies. The Steam version fixes that with a slew of brand new enemies and mini bosses as well as improved graphics and sound. While most games might just tack on new content and call it a day, Ice Demon has been re-balanced from the ground up to make sure these new enemies and their mechanics feel right at home with the original cast. People looking for a casual experience will be disappointed as the game starts tough and gets tougher as you increase your belt rank. It can feel unforgiving at times and there really isn't anything to do to make it any easier. The game gives you a strict set of rules and expects you to practice hard until you can perform optimally. It was a while before I could even beat the first mini boss. Also you can play as a cute girl.
https://youtu.be/H5wsskAHOFw Game is looking good but for me hard my gameplay here watch : ) LOL
Someone please beat my scores.
Ice Demon pros: fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on, cons: difficult battles. good game. Personal Suggested Purchase Price: NA (Free To Play)
This game really brings out that feeling of sitting down and playing a game to the point where you master it! I've been playing (and enjoying) it since even before released on Steam and seeing it change and improve over time was a treat. That being said, though Steam says I only have like 2.5 hrs played as of writing this, I can assure you I probably have closer to like 20-30 hours due to playing a standalone download version of the game. The controls and game feel: I have to say, the controls feel tight, responsive and most importantly they aren't overly complex. This leads to the played being able to really latch onto moves they feel the most comfortable with, but mix things up with easily inputted alternate moves to compensate or adapt to different situations. It's not an easy game, but that's because the point is to see yourself grow even if you manage to defeat 5 more enemies than last time or last for one more minute! Sound and Visuals: It's meant to be an arcade experience and it delivers on that! Catchy music, distinct enemy designs and crunchy sound effects help make this game addicting to repeat and repeat. If you arcade style beat-em ups with a real feeling to mastering the game, then this is the one for you!
Ice Demon is a 2D retro pixel platformer/brawler that's been slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio video game construction kit from Yoyogames. The game offers a very generic brawling experience with retro pixel "ice" theme because that's what's going to make retro pixel "art" appealing again... right? Nah. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. The game is fairly slack with sloppy controls and a generally dissatisfying experience. GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and unsurprisingly results in products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. Using a video game construction kit requires little to no talent or skill as a game developer. Very often, GameMaker Studio is used to make shovelware and lazy cash grabs, although in this case the game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises like pixel art and using off the shelf game templates and construction kits.
