About
Full moon. Cold night. Dark shadow. Warm gun. The Beast of Glenkildove has stalked Ireland for centuries. Now, you must hunt it.
Hunter: The Reckoning — The Beast of Glenkildove is an interactive novel by William Brown, set in the World of Darkness. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
Eight years ago, when you were eighteen, the Beast of Glenkildove killed one of your closest friends. You've never returned to Ireland since that day.
It's difficult to remember what happened. As you'll soon learn, the human mind blots out the traumatic memories of facing a werewolf.
Now, you must stalk that werewolf across the shadowed glens and fogbound mountains of Ireland, hunting a shapeshifting killing machine with your friends, your wits, and a shotgun.
But you and your friends are not alone. You have entered a world of Hunters, humans who dare to challenge the dominion of the monsters who rule over them. Can you trust the fanatics of the Society of Leopold, the scholars and savants of the Arcanum, the ruthless Duffy crime family, or the enigmatic biotech company Fada?
Can you even trust your oldest friends?
Redemption for some. Retribution for others. A reckoning for all.

It's by all means very good, I enjoyed my playthrough but don't necessarily feel it hooked me in for a second. That, I feel, is entirely a personal opinion. I would've loved maybe more opportunity to explore other things but it was very much a 'do one thing or miss out on another' type of game, which isn't a criticism, that's just how it played out. The whole thing takes place over about a week of in-story time, I feel for being a bunch of brand new babies to the whole supernatural thing, some more time was warranted, but that's the only thing I really have to say that could be considered a con.
I get the impression that physical builds have a much easier time of it. That’s not my kind of character. Furthermore, the portrayal of the werewolves (Garou) doesn’t fit at all with what I know of the World of Darkness.
Very peak, read the other WoD interactives they are also very peak and worth the time and commitment
Well written and immersive, especially the first half. Choices matter and some branching truly feels meaningful. I had fun exploring different pathways and was very touched in the scene where MC
meets previous hunters, for it was flavorful and did make my choices feel seen.
Some of the characters were interesting as well. Things I felt could be better were 1) the climax to ending part felt a bit rushed and 2) the checks were quite difficult and rewarded a very focused build. Strongly recommend toggle the storyteller mode
Really, really good writing. And the GAME is good too! Great variety of choices, and it's truly a "Hunter: The Reckoning" experience, with all the skills, stats, edges, gear, information gathering, Despair/Danger levels, etc. etc. from the original table-top RPG. Must have for any World Of Darkness fan, a delightful experience it is!
This was a highly enjoyable read. The story and characters were engaging and compelling, and despite the fast-paced action, you could genuinely connect with and care about them. One critique would be the finale, which resolved too quickly and felt somewhat anticlimactic given the strong buildup. This might be a consequence of my choices leading to a less satisfying conclusion. Still, I would highly recommend it It's definitely one of the standout titles in the World of Darkness collection of choice-based games. I would eagerly read a continuation.
It was a fun read but the end felt very rushed, without spoiling the story I'll just say what we went there to do simply never happened. No explanation, no final showdown, just nothing.
A text based rpg/choose your own adventure thats atmospheric and authentic to Irish culture and people. You have a lot of freedom to play the character the way you like. Id recommend you turn on story teller mode because its hard to tell what skills are being used and when in checks. There were some occasions where I failed a check even though based on my stats I would have though I would pass it easily but it turned out different stats were being used. This may be due to my relative unfamiliarity with the stats used in World of Darkness 5th editions but its not well explained either way. But despite that minor gripe I thought it was really good and deserves more attention from people who like World of Darkness games like the "... of New York" visual novels.
A very nice WOD tale set entirely in Ireland which is such a nice change of pace from alot of the main line WOD stuff. The way the irish identity of the characters and the lore is weaved through the story is really interesting. We definitely need more Hunter themed WOD stuff and this is a step towards that. No imbued, just some irish folks against the forces of darkness. It feels like the third act is a little short but I loved the childhood setup. I kinda wish it had a bit more impact on our relationships with characters but it was still very enjoyable.
A remarkable Interactive Fiction. Its vivid descriptions draw you into this dark world with ease, almost effortlessly. Even for someone like me, who knows the World of Darkness fairly well, the author managed to convince me that I knew nothing at all—and even made me doubt what I thought I understood. The way assumptions, myths, and legends were presented from different perspectives was simply outstanding. It fits perfectly, because in this story you are a hunter who’s only just beginning to uncover the supernatural. Slowly piecing together scraps of truth from rumor, deciding what’s fact, half-truth, or outright fiction, was a fascinating experience. The consequences of your choices are very real, and you can feel their weight. But what impressed me most is the replay value: I’ve just finished one playthrough, and already I want to dive back in and approach it from a completely different angle. I’m confident the book will reward me with an entirely new perspective. If I had to point out one drawback, it would be the relatively small amount of action. I personally would have liked more of it. But perhaps adding too much would have broken the rhythm and logic of the story. Still, when the action does happen, it’s excellent. As someone who chose the background of a Special Boat Service operator, I was very satisfied when the game let me unleash my hunter’s formidable combat skills. To the author: Thank you so much for the effort and care you’ve put into creating such a high-quality work. I’m truly looking forward to whatever comes next. Bring the reckoning.
