This is an excellent Brotato clone that's going to keep me busy for a long time, but the controls in-menu need to be fixed or I am going to freak the f``k out. The D-pad navigation is janky. If you like Brotato, you will probably like this game. If you don't like Brotato, you very likely will not.
When I first started playing this I thought it was pretty "meh". It felt sluggish to play and there generally wasn't enough variety to encourage multiple playthroughs. It got a few significant updates, though, and at this point I find myself coming back to it pretty regularly when I have a half hour to kill. I felt at first as though too many of the items required sacrifices I wasn't willing to make. It was only after many playthroughs that I started to get the hang of playing to my character class's strengths, realizing that sometimes it would be beneficial to take even a large hit in a particular stat in order to become more powerful in the long run. Heck, sometimes even negative effects can work to one's advantage. For instance, I did a run playing as a character with a boosted "evasion" stat, to the point where I had three guaranteed dodges that would recharge fairly quickly. My attack speed was low, though, and I risked becoming overwhelmed by enemies if it took too long to defeat them. I ended up finding a couple of items that would raise my attack speed for every 8 times I took damage, and synergized that with an item that transformed health potions into poison. Because I had a high luck stat, enemies were regularly dropping poison, which would only do 1 point of damage at a time, but picking up a bunch of them meant I was steadily increasing my attack speed. I was able to use my character's strengths to not only make up for, but actively reverse my weaknesses, and that's exactly the kind of thing that makes this game fun to play. It's still got a few bugs, but I'm quite enjoying Hunchback's Dungeon. I look forward to seeing it come out of early access.
Good roguelike that twists the survivors formula in it's own way. Very good if you like build optimization and minmaxing.
Nice
Solid brotatemup with a few nitpicks: - Bibles are just black rectangles that rotate around the player. - It would be nice if there was a controller button to exit out of the shop menu, rather than having to navigate to the exit button; I have to perform 5+ button presses sometimes just to exit the shop, which is very bad UI design. - 'Accessibility' menu should probably just be called 'difficulty options', since there is nothing in there for colour blindness, dyslexia, arachnophobia, transphobia etc. It's literally just a bunch of difficulty sliders. - No waifus.
Hunchback's Dungeon is an arena shooter with roguelite elements with nice pixel graphics. It has many characters with different stats, over 30 skills, and lots of items that give both buffs and debuffs, so you have to plan your builds. The gameplay is similar to Brotato: you survive waves on a small arena, with each wave getting longer and harder. The metaprogression system works in two ways: through quests and through XP milestones, which unlock new characters, items, or skills. The price is quite fair, but despite the number of heroes and items, the game still feels too limited.Currently, the game has only 2 maps and 4 difficulty levels, and a character can equip only 4 active spells, which can be fused up to level 4. I would love to see more active abilities and maps. Neutral review. P.S: I launched the game today, and all achievements, characters, and items unlocked by themselves. Showed promise as a Brotato clone, but the latest patches made some odd changes to the point I question if it was tested prior to play. HP Regen, Vampirism, and ALL of the spells that rely on Profane Magic scaling have huge penalties with little reward. For example, with 500 Vampirism, I had a 3% chance on hit to gain 5 hp. Granted, I cheesed the system by using the fan dagger that attack 5 times a second, but that further showcases the bad balance with items. It plays well, but has some very bad ideas compared to the game that inspired it.
https://youtu.be/8LKfgTuMxEg Basic hooks are there for complexity but without more dynamic play for beginners on their first run that early time spent will quickly feel stale.
It is very fun trying to make your build while managing the negative side effects, there are only two bosses, and the increase in difficulty is perfect as it slowly provides more challenge, 7/10 wish there were more bosses
Una copia de Brotato, pero algo peor. Está en Early Access así que aún se actualiza, pero bastante lento porque está hecho por una persona.
