How to Fool a Liar King Remastered is an otome visual novel developed and published by ROSEVERTE. It is the second game in the Story of Eroolia series and the sequel to How to Take Off Your Mask Remastered. Also, as the title states, this is a remastered version of the original. For those who haven't played the original or played the previous game in the series, this review may contain spoilers. How to Fool a Liar King Remastered takes place shortly after the events of How to Take Off Your Mask Remastered. This time, you take on the role of Regina, a cat lover from Ozzwa (a country known for its martial arts and located outside the island of Eroolia). After opening the door to her bedroom and stepping through, she finds herself suddenly in Eroolia, where she meets Juli, Mars, and Ronan, characters from the previous game who are on an important mission. As Regina has no idea how she came to Eroolia or has any idea how to get home, she decides to accept Juli's offer to accompany them on their mission, serving as Juli's bodyguard. At first, Regina doesn't trust Juli, thinking that he's keeping lots of secrets from her. However, over time, the two of them slowly open up to one another and let down their guard, and perhaps their relationship may take a turn for the better. I'll end my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers and all that. As for the gameplay, How to Fool a Liar King Remastered consists of a prologue, seven chapters, and an epilogue. The prologue and first three chapters consists of choices, and depending on the choices you make, you'll then either get on Juli's side (which reveals Juli's point of view about events) or Regina's side (which reveals an important character's point of view although I won't reveal who that character is for spoiler purposes). The remaining chapters and epilogue don't have choices, so they play out like in a kinetic novel. There are several CGs as well as a varied soundtrack and Steam achievements (although the achievements won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game"). Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my critique. I enjoy the Eroolia series a lot, and I'm happy that there's now a remastered version of this game. First, the story is the same as in the original. I enjoy the comedy and romance in this visual novel along with the hints of mystery. It's great to see Regina and Juli get closer together, and I like how well they suit each other, despite how different they are. Regina is a strong character (both physically and personality-wise) and clever, although she tends to forget to mention the important details. This can cause confusion among other characters, but Regina makes it a point to clear it up. As for Juli, it's great to see him return from the previous game and to discover that he has this whole other side to him, which Regina unravels. Although Juli lies and uses other people, Regina can see how lonely he is. Also, it's great to see Mars and Ronan return and to meet new characters, mainly the luccretias (cat people) in Laarz, where Regina and the others go to. I especially liked getting to meet Myana, the princess of Laarz, for the first time. I could see how much she cares for her people, especially if you play Regina's side, and it was funny to witness certain interactions between her and Regina. Also, I just have to say this, but the best luccretia in my opinion has to be
Simon, Myana's protector. I really want to see his human form someday
. Briefly returning to the story itself, I enjoyed it (like in the original version) and I liked how it ended. Since this is a light-hearted story (for the most part), you can imagine what happens in the end between Regina and Juli. XD As for the writing, I felt it was well-paced. The story takes place over the course of a few days, and it doesn't feel rushed or too slow. I didn't notice any typos, either. In regards to the art, this is where the "remastered" part of the title comes in. The sprites themselves now have eye and lip movements, so they feel more realistic. However, the art itself retains that cute anime style that I adore in this series. The CGs are improved as well to make the characters' bodily proportions be more realistic. (In addition, this is also a remastered version since the game uses the Unity engine, supports HD resolution and runs at 60 fps.) As for the soundtrack, the tracks are the same as in the original. However, they're full of variety, ranging from the happy, everyday theme to one of more mystery. Also, they're quite enjoyable to listen to. Like in the previous version, there is Japanese voice acting, and I liked all the voices used. They seem to fit well with their respective characters. Overall, would I recommend How to Fool a Liar King Remastered? If you like visual novels, enjoy the Eroolia series, etc., then I'd give this a thumbs up. I like the improvements made, and it's great to return to this series. It's especially enjoyable if you haven't had a chance to play any visual novels in this series before, so it's a great time to pick it up although I would recommend playing How to Take Off Your Mask Remastered first, for story continuity purposes. If you feel on the fence about getting it, you can wait for a sale, and it's also in a few Steam bundles, so you can save quite a bit if you have the other items in those bundles. ^^
Flying free and writing reviews solely for The Introverted Gamer.
The second story in the Eroolia series is a sweet romantic comedy about a girl named Regina (name changeable) and a mysterious stranger named Juli. This is the Remastered version of the original game. Though I can't comment on the improvements since I haven't played the original game, I know that the developer spent 3 years to remaster the three games in the Eroolia series and made substantial improvements to the original game. This game is simple and lighthearted, but enjoyable, nonetheless. The sprites and CGs are beautifully drawn and captivating. There is also a nice opening theme song sung by Inatsuri and insert song sung by Yuriko Yano (which you can purchase as DLCs on Steam), as well as good background music. This is by far my favourite story in the series, but it's probably because Juli is my favourite male lead out of all the Eroolia stories. I definitely suggest you play this game before the third and last game "How to Sing to Open Your Heart" as the story line of the last game is heavily built on the second game.
If you liked Juli from "How To Take Off Your Mask"... You can now have him as a Love Interest in here. This story feels better, in a sense that the characters are more mature. There is also more focus on the Cat people and the Kingdom politics and we get to meet the mythical father from the last game as well. I feel the characters worked well off one another and politics aside, I did like how things transpired via "Juli's Route". I don't really have anything else to point out. The artwork is cute and it's all still light n fluffy. That's pretty much it. A nice simple read? Yeah. Something like that. ^^
Cute Story, Cute artwork, Cute Characters
🎮 Reseña de How to Fool a Liar King Remastered

Gráficos / Video7Arte adorable, estilo anime, buen gancho visual.

This is a cute game, mildly entertaining and the second game in a series of 3, I believe. It's not a bad game and I enjoyed the first playthrough. The 100% is a bit of a slog since it's the same story all over again with only minor changes in writing. The art style is okay, the music is okay and the series has an overarching story that is pretty good. While the first game in the series (How to take off your mask) is slow in kicking off said storyline, the second game sets it off and it becomes more interesting from there. The characters are quirky and sorta likeable, but somewhat naive and a little odd. The main character is strong but a bit too violent for my taste. The love interest is not my type either. Price is a bit steep (14,79 euros as of writing this), however I got it on sale so I feel I got my moneys worth that way, so get it on sale.
I like that being a heroine who punches all my problems is a legit way to play. T_T why no Myana waifu route
How to Fool a Liar King est le séquel de How to take off your mask.
How to take off your mask.
