8 min in and couldn't get past the TV part. I really wanted to like this game based of the art and what I've seen so far but its rough to play. there is no options menu at the start screen, so when you start the game make sure the head phones are off or risk getting a perforated ear drum. with no options I can't check my keybinds, kinda weird but ok, gets into the game and my arrow keys work but nothing eles. looks at dev comments and see that the *Recommend* a controller so I think to myself ok thats cool but why make a game on steam with no M&K support? dust off ye ol' ps4 controller cause I haven't had a console in like 10 years and my audio goes out.... which I can't even check because of no options at start screen. if youre looking for a good horror game this is it... in about 6 months when better support comes out for it
I'm feeling heavily mixed on this game, but am slightly leaning towards recommending it as the content that is here is really good, but not without a couple of annoyances of course (Which I hope will be fixed before expanding the franchise further). This game is DARK and I'm not saying thematically. It's just really dark for seemingly no good reason and there's no option to change the brightness at all (which means I had to manually adjust display settings just to play this game) and the fact that some parts of the game like
the desert and mudworld
specifically want to stay so mysterious, that they don't even provide directions nor information on what you're supposed to do, and the former one in particular doesn't even give feedback as to when you've completed the area (which left me wandering around for almost half an hour).... This gets in the way of enjoyment A LOT. I'm not talking journalist levels of "no yellow paint I don't know where to go", I just wish there was something to slowly nudge the player towards the pressure plates like how there are gem fragments for the specific gems which was an amazing indicator btw. I feel like I also have to mention that the checkpoint in one of the fights doesn't seem to work properly and you're forced to do the preparation every single time you want to attempt it even once, which gets frustrating really fast when you're supposed to figure out the mechanics yourself as they're exclusive to said fight. Story wise quite a few plot holes were left and it doesn't feel close ended, which I'm assuming means more content will release either for this game, or a 3rd installment (which I'm excited for, but the slight issues should be addressed before expansion).

The original House was one of the first games I ever bought on Steam and one of my favorite in this niche horror Groundhog Day stuff, so this was one of the game I was most looking forward to seeing released. The change in artstyle is nice, reminds a lot the Fran Bow style, giving the characters more clear expressions and makes the deaths more graphic and brutal now. I'm glad the heavy and eerie atmosphere still there, along with the Yume Nikki influences, you still feel the dread, that there's something wrong and dreamish about the situation. The OST still great, as always. Overall, I loved it! But as I'm progressing the game, some problems came in a specific route of this game. Spoilers for one of the endings:
The "true" ending route. This time, the entire loop all boils down to metanarrative, Tabby is being tortured for our entertainment and the entire thing is a TV show. Everything in this route ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. I do appreciate the devs for not trying to blame the player as usual, but this still the most overdone plot and lazy twists in recent years, along with the "It was all a dream" type story. And the work you have to do to achieve this route is simply not worth it. There's a game design dissonance in the desert, where you do all sorts of puzzles, but only one specific path matters in the end - to free Kimiko. The entire thing drags the game down, the map is huge, it's boring and it's not clear what matters. I'm used to this type of map because I love exploration but I feel bad for players that only want to get done with this section. In the end, after going for the true route, the game shifts the spotlight to Kimiko, that shoots the host and free Tabby from the network. That's it, that's the plan she was talking the entire game. Kimiko doesn't even seem to get along with Tabby, that seems all miserable in the end, so why did she bother to do it? Right thing to do? What about the others? I suppose we will more gradually, in more updates or DLCs., like the first game. The whole network Truman show sucks ass, and it makes me appreciate more the story of the original House.
TL;DR it's a phenomenal haunted house horror game with some problems towards the end.
Very good follow up to the original that expands on the game concept and world. Love the new art direction, reminds me a lot of the illustrated poster of the 1977 House. Get the plushie too!
Guys buy this game, bite of 87 is real
blood... more blood... oh a cat! now its dead. depression.
It never ends.
有点当年玩星际拓荒的感觉
Игра хороша, но в игре проблема частого повтора одного и того же действия, а так игру могу порекомендовать!
Amazing game. A few things that are a little too similar to the first for my liking, such as the toilet lady, I feel more could be done with. But otherwise, I love it so far! This was a great game to stream, it really got me to scream.
