About
Horde Hunters is an objective-driven bullet heaven roguelite where you fight through the hordes of hell, build an unstoppable loadout, hire allies, and survive long enough to defeat the final boss.
Pick a character, jump into a dangerous map, and battle massive hordes of enemies while completing missions, collecting loot, leveling up, and upgrading your build. Weapons fire automatically, but you can manually aim your primary weapon for extra control.
Between the chaos, you can interact with buildings, trigger events, hire party members, and use powerful consumable items by pausing the action at the right moment. Every run pushes you to adapt, survive, and become strong enough to face the boss waiting at the end.

9 playable characters, each with a unique weapon and ability
75+ weapons and items for creating builds, synergies, and different playstyles
Manual primary weapon aiming for players who want more direct control while the rest of the chaos unfolds automatically
20+ consumables — instant single-use items that can be picked up and saved for the perfect moment
14 maps with short, action-packed runs, typically around 15–20 minutes
6 endless maps with global leaderboards, plus a custom weekly map to compete in
10+ interactive buildings that create new choices and opportunities during a run
Missions, events, changing weather, and procedural maps keep each run unpredictable
5 party members that can be hired to fight alongside you
25 runes that change how your next run plays
40+ power-ups for permanent meta progression
Custom difficulty options let you tune the challenge if the game feels too easy or too hard
Adjustable game speed lets you make runs faster and more intense
Objective-based missions give you more to do than simply survive
Pause-to-use specialty items add tactical decision-making in the middle of the chaos

A really fun Vampire Survivor-like game with some cool twists. Progression feels great. Every run gives you something to build on, and it’s actually rewarding instead of just grindy. I love that there are missions to complete during your runs. It gives you a reason to think beyond just “stay alive” and makes each session feel more purposeful. There’s also a good variety of weapons, so you’re not stuck doing the same thing every time. You get to experiment a lot, and some combos are really satisfying to pull off. The game manages to be challenging without being frustrating. It keeps you on your toes, but it doesn’t feel unfair or overwhelming. If you like the Vampire Survivor style but want something with a little more structure and variety, this one is definitely worth checking out.
When Horde Hunters left early access I posted a long organized review detailing the good and bad, but then the dev kept updating the game and addressing the leftover cons so I removed my pointless review. Basically completing simple objectives works great in a survivors-like and it seems the dev really tried to make a fun game that was both innovative and good. A con is that the graphics are weak in many places but the gameplay and build customization make up for them. Difficulty is customizable but it can be high on normal+ because i-frame grace period after getting hit is a mere 1/6 of a second. It's difficult to see certain attacks[strike], especially bomb enemies that have no AoE indicator after they die[/strike]. (Dev added an indicator and other nice improvements in an update.) There are a few unusual design choices (like the interface), but they are easy enough to understand and don't cause me problems. I'm glad I tried this and wouldn't recommend sleeping on this one if you are interested in being more involved in your survivors-like gameplay.

Horde Hunters
Having played a lot of other bullet-heavens, I expected a pretty cut-and-dried experience going into this, but Horde Hunters does not play like any other games in the genre. HH takes a more methodical approach to runs, where it benefits you to play it slow, pause and plan your route through the map, this along with balancing collecting items and keeping a good economy for upgrades makes for fairly difficult runs.
Gameplay
There's a good variety of characters currently, each being either melee, ranger or magic, these all have different starting stats, items, abilities and unique weapons. You can customise their main attack and abilities with various buffs and debuffs depending on the playstyle or build you plan on doing. All characters can be upgraded by killing enemies allowing you to allocate points to upgrade their starting stats. The two main things that make this game stand out are the character stats and economy, all characters have stats like Strength, Agility, Luck, etc, that affect various gameplay elements, you can upgrade these as you level up getting bigger bonuses for reaching 50% and 100% in each stat. Economy is what really sets this game apart as you don't just level up and get stronger as you also have to collect coins to be able to purchase the stats and weapon upgrades at every level-up. There are a few maps to choose from with different gameplay elements across them all like different buildings, areas that slow you down and elements that can hurt you, the maps themselves are good. However every map uses the same enemies, elites and final boss fight against elites, it'd be a lot more appealing if each map had enemies visually specific to that map or elites with unique attacks. The ending boss fight to each run is just more elites, which feels a little lacklustre, I think it would be cool if each map had their own boss that you had to plan your items around in advance. On top of character levelling you also have a typical meta-progression where you can equip up to 10 different Power-ups that buff various stats and gameplay events, you can mix and match these depending on which map and character you play as. You are able to directly change the health, damage, speed and number of enemies with the difficulty modifiers from 50% up to 150% allowing for dynamic difficulty depending on how good you are, runs are short at only 15 minutes, but you are also able to set the game speed faster to speed up runs to 7.5 minutes. This game has endless maps where you can fight for a highscore, the higher your difficulty, the higher your score multiplier. With the nature of leaderboards the game is balanced around scaling until you die, so it doesn't really feel endless, my only real issue with the game is that you never really feel strong, it always feels like enemies catch up to you. Weapons have endless upgrades at max but they are so miniscule at +1% damage that it rarely ever feels impactful, my personal suggestion would be to raise the buffs these endless upgrades give you but have the prices raise with each additional level, this means you also need a good economy and would help keep endless leaderboards balanced.
Achievements (93/93)
The achievements are not too difficult once you learn the game and you'll collect meta-upgrades which will make them easier as you play. Each map in-game shows which achievements you are missing which can be useful.
Settings/Accessibility/Misc
You can transfer your save file from the demo. Lots of useful settings for gameplay. Option for different cursor style/colour as well as a projectile transparency slider helping with visibility. Supports keyboard, mouse and gamepad with control rebinding. Only English language supported currently.
TL;DR
Methodical bullet-heaven that stands out in the genre. Short runs, 15 minutes or less. Missions to complete on each map. Level up characters permanently by killing enemies. Modifiable difficulty. Leaderboards for endless score grinding. Lacks enemy variety. Fairly easy achievements.
Check out my Curator page
It's... not that fun? It wants to be unique, but it ends up just being frustrating.
i highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the genre and even arpgs alike. instead of just entering a level and nonstop killing tons of enemies the whole level there are several things to do to also help you kill tons more of enemies and it is very fun. you also do get to build your characters along the way.
I enjoyed this game thoroughly and it was a great addition to the survivor-like genre with its own unique twist in the form of the "towns" or structures/events strewn across the landscape. I also really enjoyed the ability to change the default attack of each character as well as their abilities, making for very personalised builds and playstyles. If you're carving your way through the survivor-like genre like I am and you're trying to get another hit of that sweet survivor dopamine, this game has a lot of unique ideas to offer and its worth a play. Definitely a hidden gem, with a developer who clearly cares and responded to my bug submission AND dropped a hotfix within 12h of my report.
Can't stand the gameplay. Just not enough control ....every button basically pauses the game? Everything feels too slow and clunky to play. Feels like a janky version of Rogue Genesia.
This game is a great time spender. If you are a fan of this style of game, it definitely is worth looking into. The characters are diverse enough to have their own styles of play, and still provides challenges in the different modes of play. I am personally excited to see further development of it down the pipe and where it will continue with its growth!
I absolutley love games like these. Not sure what the name of the category is right now, but i have always had a special place for them in my heart. I saw another comment saying the game got "too hard", but I feel this makes the game so much better. A challenge is what makes a game fun and exciting, if it were so easy that you breezed through all the levels, you would have people complaining about how quick and easy the game is. It is hard for game developers to find the right middle, but I think that the developers of Horde Hunters found it perfectly. Hoped this helped anyone reading it, love you all, God loves you all, Amen and goodbye.
