Six transmedial designers and storytellers decided to take the innovative transmedia theory to the game industry. The gameplay of this Indie puzzler is something players probably haven't seen before. The experiment and goal was to create a transmedial game and Highlight is the proof of concept.

I really liked this game, it makes even a dumb idiot like me think outside of the box and it promotes thought, it tackles the issues of the modern day media and for me personally it hit a soft spot on the subject of depression linked to social media. i'd suggest this game to anyone who wants some food for thought and a cute well put together small game that doesn't take up much of your time but will stay with you for a long while
7.5/10 I quite enjoyed Highlight. Although the general trajectory of the story would likely be familiar to those who keep up with articles on the psychological effects of social media (e.g. Essena O'Neill), Highlight presents its story in a compelling way. I've often thought of social media as a "highlight reel," and some of us can feel that our "ordinary" lives pale in comparison. Therefore, I thought the game was rather aptly named. I liked the way that Roos' surroundings were a representation of what she had posted online. In one room there'll be a snowman and a graduation gown, and in the next a beach and dress from a night out. What would a life (or environment) look like that was solely constructed from social media posts? What is left out? I also found the puzzles to be clever and intuitive. I don't consider myself to be particularly adept at puzzle games, and I was able to figure out each prompt with relative ease. However, I'm still curious what the "CW," "BF," and "CH" meant at the end of the captions on some of the Instagram posts. Lastly, I must praise the actress who portrayed Roos Deelstra, Daphne de Vries. She delivered a convincing portrayal of a woman in crisis, and helped me to emotionally buy into the tale. Although I'd prefer gameplay that was more engaging than the "fill-in-the-blank" style puzzles on offer and I'd prefer a tale that was a bit longer and more detailed, I think that the developers have proven their game concept to be viable. If you're interested in the subject of social media, give Highlight a shot.
I finally finished and i have to say it's been a wonderful experience!
Played through this after one of the devs gifted me a key, and while the way it weaves clues into an instagram account is fascinating and interesting, it feels like a story that (so far) falters a bit because it leads a player to think that the central character is lying by omission about a number of things in their life, and the vlogs tell as much - but don't present a wider picture. I kind of think this could go on for another half hour - at the same time how would a player feel about Roos after they open up even more or even show implied darker aspects of themselves? I'm interested enough to play a continuation of this story, at least. While it's not quite the depth of a Sam Barlow title, it's still recommended as an experimental narrative piece and the potential prologue to a larger work.
Very good storyline i didnt expect that you'd really needed to go onto instagram
Witty.
