The game where people ask, "Isnt that just Dead by Daylight?" Hide or Die, HoD: an asymmetrical horror game that has been totally overhauled and fine tuned for months by VecFour Digital. Following the initial early access release in August of 2019, Hide or Die slowly began to show flaws in its core gameplay design with the lack of a reliable playerbase and gameplay that just fell flat of engaging, the game shortly tripped down on the Steam charts. While the devs had an intriguing idea for something new to switch up the seemingly lack luster horror genre recently, the vision ultimately fell short of acceptable execution. This is where the Overhaul update comes into play. Right after the game seemingly failed and was destined to fall into the depths of Steam to never be seen again, the devs went right back to the drawing bored to completely revamp the formula that was Hide or Die. They spent months completely redoing and tuning mechanics and graphics to get the product we have today, half a year later. In this entirely new experience, the game now features a 3v1 gamemode that offers thrilling, fast paced gameplay centered around activating... generators to escape the bloodthirsty killer? Really...? You may be asking, "How is this any different from DbD?" Hide or Die offers a complete mix up to DbD through the character customization that allows you to completely have control over how you want to play the game. HoD also offers a more thrilling approach to Hunter/Survivor interactions through interactable hiding spots and a phone system to message fellow teammates. There is no heavy looping mechanics found here and the game is much more grounded in evasive manners that involve hiding and predicting the terrifying hunter's actions. These mechanics really bridge the gap between competitive multiplayer horror games and singleplayer thriller experiences by allowing you to really feel helpless and scared of the threat aiming to kill you and 2 other friends. The game also offers a completely free battle pass (you heard that right!) that allows you to unlock the newest killers, calling cards, xp bonuses, clothing, and unique 3d sprays just by playing the game. I will not go completely in depth with the gameplay here as there is a page, and in game tutorial that explains the full extent of the gameplay and its mechanics, but I can fully recommend giving Hide or Die a shot if you're looking for a balanced, thrilling multiplayer horror experience that will keep you coming back for more. TL;DR - Hide or Die is a new take on the multiplayer horror genre that has been completely refined and tuned to ensure a heart-racing time with whomever you decide to play with.

As someone who backed the game, just dont get it, it's not worth it in its current state. The game is incredibly buggy, animations, movement and combat all feel stiff, and overall the game just needs a LOT more work before its worth getting.
So after playing a few matches, this is what I think. (Coming from someone that works in the industry) First of all, I didn't encounter any of the mentionned issues in comments, except in the tutorial. Tutorial is very buggy, can't finish it half the time and it tends to crash. Other than that, in online matches, I didn't encounter any game breaking bugs, crashes or otherwise. This game is really a mix of DBD and F13 and so far, it excels at it. The cell phone is a nice and innovative touch and the game totally nailed the ambiance. Although the map feels empty a bit and I wish it had a bit more substance and elements to it, and the hunter appears slightly overpowered but I understand this is an EA title and I am sure they will fix their stuff. The Devs released a hotfix in the hours following release to get rid of some huge bugs, so we gotta appreciate that. Coming for devs that aren't AAA, I am truly impressed by this title so far. Looking forward to many more games, and hopefully more modes. The store could use a few more items, although I assume its just a temp store with placeholder items for now. Also maybe make a bit more clear how to level and such in the game. Cheers!
Hide or Die is BACK! The developers could have easily walked away after a difficult early access launch, but they didn't. Instead, they refocused their efforts determined to create a game worthy of a dedicated player base. Nearly every aspect of the original game has been overhauled, enhanced, and refined to create the absolute best asymmetrical horror experience possible. If you are sick and tired of a “Pretty good job so far”, and every other asymmetrical horror game is just so last year to you, then this is exactly what you've been waiting for. Welcome home!
Hide or Die is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game set in a world corrupt with darkness. A Hunter must hunt down three Survivors. The Survivors need to activate extractors to extract a certain amount of darkness out of their surroundings. This way the tower gets powered and the hatches can be opened to escape the darkness. Sound/Music: The music in Hide or Die is decent. It has a unique theme music and the ingame sounds create an incomparable dark atmosphere. → 9/10 Gameplay/Fun Factor: The matches are at max. 12 minutes long, very fast paced and full of interactions. Since the game just got an overhaul and launched yesterday I can not say much about the current state of the matchmaking: All I can say is I instantly get lobbies and there are no long waiting times. The current game mode "Extract" is a 3 vs 1 game mode (see above). With the upcoming seasons the developers will add two more game modes "Last Man Standing" and "Escape". So the game offers variety. Regarding the game balance: Right now I feel like the game is balanced quite ok for the current state of it. I feel like the Hunters are stronger but this creates an atmosphere of pressure and excitement. It is definitely not comparable to Dead by Daylight. Sadly, HoD is not beginner friendly and it can be way more frustrating than DbD. → 6/10 (with more game modes it would be 8/10) Graphics: The graphics improved drastically with the overhaul. I still think there are some bugs here and there and some spots could be looked at again but all in all it is okay. Some maps still have FPS issues, some work perfectly fine. Players with a good PC should not have many problems, users with an average one might have lower FPS but it is still playable. → 6/10 Long term Motivation: There is a free battle pass which motivates players to play the game over and over. It does not cost anything. You can level each Hunter and survivor, so there is a bit of a grind aswell. I think the long term motivation will increase with more game modes to get more variety. I feel like the background story of the game and its Hunters could stand out more since lore often connects people to a game. → 7/10 Price-Performance Ratio: Hide or Die costs less than 20€. It currently costs 12,59€ at sale. In my opinion this is a very good price for the amount of content you get. I am a founder of the game, so I paid way more for the game and its development and I am convinced it was worth it. The developers of Hide or Die really care for the game's health and the community although they are only three people. They work insanely hard on the game and this can be seen ingame. → 10/10 https://discordapp.com/invite/hideordie Overall: 38/50
Before I get into this review I feel I should mention that I have over 3k hours in Dead by Daylight and that I owned Hide or Die before the latest full release patch. I'm going to start off by saying this game is a breath of fresh air after playing so much dead by daylight in the past 2 years. There have been plenty of asymmetrical horror games that have come and gone but none of those were quite able to capture the formula that DBD has mastered. Until this new revision of Hide or Die came out.
Survivor Side

Is it scary?
If you're a DBD gamer and you feel that DBD lost its scare factor after so many hours of playing, the same will happen with this game inevitably. Keep your expectations reasonable. BUT I will say this game still gets the adrenaline pumping and induces much more panic when you're trying to escape. When I'm doing the objectives and the killer is approaching, I find myself struggling to click the right keys and run in panic and lemme tell you it feels great.
Objectives
The objectives (and overall gameplay in general) is similar to deathgarden except more interactive. Instead of hitting skillchecks or just sitting in a certain radius, you have to activate extractors by typing in the numbers shown in red with your number keys. You have to complete 3 of these panels (sometimes more if certain perks are used). Sometimes this gives enough time for a killer to see you're in that area, which brings some pretty intense moments. Will you be able to complete the panels? I find myself typing in panic and messing up a ton.
Looping
I'd say this game has looping similar to Deathgarden than DBD. There are a few questionable points on maps you can run the killer at but thats probably the closest to looping you can get and may not last very long with smarter killers(it sure has wasted alot of my time as killer though). Parkour and hiding are what you'll be doing for the majority of your playtime from what i've learned. This involves learning something entirely different from dropping pallets and vaulting windows over and over. There's no real "standing up" to the killer aside from using items at the moment. So parkour provides a pretty decent skill gap. Knowing all the good hiding spots and learning to hide efficiently are good as well.
Can I solo?
I am mostly a solo player and even though you will have those teammates that don't do the objective... I think its still fun being solo. I don't think the punishment is that harsh as it still gives you a decent amount of points for doing your part.
Tunneling?
ITS MUCH HARDER TO GET TUNNELED ON PURPOSE. When you are saved from a coffin, you and the rescuer are made invisible for a short duration so you can escape.
What if I do get tunneled?
YOU NEVER REALLY DIE. You are given a health bar and when you get "killed" you spawn in a coffin and have your health reduced. Your first two lives you will require 2 hits to down. After that you are one hit every time and can die as many times as possible. The game only ends when you run out of time OR all survivors are dead. If you are getting tunneled there's a much higher chance for your team to escape.
Killer Side
My experience as killer has been nothing short of difficult yet rewarding. Survivors can be VERY cheeky, especially grouped players. You WILL get those games where every time you find someone you get flashed, stunned, ran at a strong structure, door locked in your face, etc. BUT there are very strong perks to help you manage some of these things a bit better. Tracking survivors is much trickier as you're not given precise info aside from the general area a survivor is. Time management and objective pressure is just as crucial in this game as in its competitor. There are also INSANE perk synergies from what i've seen. The more you play and improve the better it will feel.
TL;DR
I think this game will keep you on high alert much more than DBD. There is a sense of helplessness when avoiding the killer that you don't get in DBD. If you're an avid DBD player like me who feels they have nearly perfected the looping in DBD... This game will give you something to learn. You WILL NOT do well in your first game. You might not even do well in your second. This game can be very punishing on both sides. You HAVE to give it time and be willing to learn. It won't kill DBD. But its definitely a good game that can coexist alongside it.
Honestly, its meh. First day of relaunch i was excited to play but the games boring in my opinion. Not much enjoyment in being chased where youre almost guaranteed to lose unless you lead the hunter to another survivor. Items seem scarce, i played an entire game with 25% health since i couldnt find a med kit to save my life. Honestly kind of dissapointing.
It's Early Access so if the idea of playing a game with bugs doesn't interest you, wait until full release. It's that simple. That being said, yes there are a lot more bugs than we dealt with in beta. All the reviews are from people who played the game for less than an hour. So from someone with quite a bit of hours let me say this: This game is actually great. The jumpscares from solo encounters are amazing. The atmosphere and music are amazing. However; the AI can still use some work. The combat is still wonky. I tried to play multiplayer with a friend, instead of him asking for a help with the problem that I had a solution to he decided to write a negative review after dying in his first match... If you're wondering my point: yes, you need to tinker around with the settings, yes you need a good pc, yes you might need to reinstall it and restart your pc, yes its unoptimized. But to be honest day one patch isn't even out yet :/, give the game a chance to stand on its own two feet first then we will see the outcome. If you buy the game now don't expect a solid 10/10 game, in my opinion I give this game a 4/10: Is the fun there? Yes, is it worth 20$? Yes, is it broken? Yes. Do I recommend getting? Depends, I would say no but I could also say yes.
Game has potential as the next Dead by Daylight but due to serious bugs/entitlement the game is currently dead since launch. Killers are extremely OP and will ruin your day with tracking abilities such as a radar gun that blips with movement, "True sight" which sees through walls for 2 seconds, and a green aura that highlights any players through walls that are touched by it. For a game called Hide or Die it refuses to let players hide in its beautiful and creepy environment. Before buying check out the player base for any increases because 2 weeks after launch there is 30-50 players total depending on the time of day. This make is so the player base flocks to a singular game mode which becomes boring after awhile.
