While I enjoyed the game's design and difficulty levels, I did not enjoy the wonky controls. It is very difficult (if not impossible) to move your controller to the edge of the search quadrant. When a hidden object is put there, you almost always have to use a hint to find it because you can't zoom in on the edges. With only three hints per level (which are not refillable), I easily got stuck on some levels and had to reset the game to start from the beginning multiple times. I truly don't like this aspect of the game and would recommend other "find-it" games before I recommend this one.
Hidden Oddities by Wandering Shack is a gentle, visually driven hidden object experience that leans more into atmosphere and curiosity than challenge or complexity. From the moment you begin, it becomes clear that the game is designed to be slow and relaxing, inviting players to explore small, detailed environments at their own pace rather than pushing them through demanding puzzles. It presents itself as a collection of miniature worlds, each filled with carefully placed objects waiting to be discovered. The core gameplay is built around searching for items within these compact scenes. Each level provides a list of objects to find, and the task is simply to locate them by closely examining the environment. While this structure is familiar, the way objects are integrated into the scenery gives the experience a bit more depth. Items are often hidden in plain sight, blending into textures or tucked into corners that require patience and attention to notice. This creates a satisfying loop where progress comes from observation rather than trial and error. One of the most distinctive aspects of the game is its use of small-scale environments. Instead of presenting large, sprawling areas, it focuses on tightly designed spaces that feel like miniature dioramas. Each location has its own theme and personality, ranging from cozy interiors to more imaginative settings. The smaller scale encourages players to look closely at every detail, turning each level into a contained space of discovery. This design choice makes exploration feel more intimate and deliberate, as every object has been placed with intention. The visual presentation plays a major role in shaping the experience. The art style is colorful and inviting, with a clean look that makes it easy to distinguish objects once they are spotted. At the same time, the environments are detailed enough to make the search process engaging, as players must carefully scan each scene to pick out hidden items. The overall aesthetic reinforces the game’s calm tone, creating a space that feels comfortable to spend time in. Sound design complements this atmosphere with soft, unobtrusive music that enhances the relaxed pacing. There are no intense audio cues or dramatic shifts, just a steady background that supports the act of exploration. This consistency helps maintain a sense of calm, making the game suitable for unwinding rather than focusing on high-stakes challenges. Progression is straightforward, with new levels unlocking as players complete the current ones. There are no complex systems or layered mechanics to manage, which keeps the experience accessible. This simplicity allows players to focus entirely on the act of searching without worrying about additional objectives or constraints. However, it also means that there is little variation in how the game evolves over time. The pacing is one of the game’s strongest qualities. There are no time limits or penalties for taking too long, allowing players to move at whatever speed feels comfortable. This makes it easy to play in short sessions or for longer periods, depending on preference. The absence of pressure turns the experience into something closer to a relaxing activity than a traditional game, which will appeal to those looking for a low-stress experience. At the same time, the limited scope can become a drawback. While the environments change, the core mechanic remains the same throughout, and there are few new ideas introduced as the game progresses. This can lead to a sense of repetition, particularly for players who prefer more variety or evolving gameplay systems. The lack of a narrative or broader progression also means that motivation to continue comes primarily from personal enjoyment rather than a sense of unfolding discovery. Despite these limitations, Hidden Oddities succeeds in delivering a cohesive and enjoyable experience within its niche. It does not attempt to reinvent the genre, but it refines a familiar concept into something that feels polished and consistent. The combination of detailed environments, gentle pacing, and accessible gameplay creates a relaxing experience that is easy to return to. In the end, Hidden Oddities is best suited for players who enjoy calm, observation-based gameplay and appreciate the charm of small, carefully designed environments. It may not offer depth or long-term variety, but it provides a pleasant and satisfying experience that fulfills its purpose well. Rating: 6/10
Amazing game! I really enjoyed the art style and cosy vibes with each level. The levels are manageable and challenging, with a satisfying soundtrack to chill with whilst playing. I loved the interactions you can have with the objects, it helps to bring the game to life and gives a sense of purpose to your mouse clicks! This is a great game for casual playing and to just pick up and play when you need something to chill out with. I'm looking forward to playing more and discovering the rest of the levels. Thanks for a great game!
