My brain is to small to play this game... 8/10
Zipped through the 1st 18 puzzles, before struggling w. the 19th. Quickly solved the next 13 puzzles, before wasting several hours on the 33rd puzzle & still not solving it. Time to find something else on Steam, or return to one of my other games, but HexON is no longer fun. Every so many puzzles, a new aspect is added: As other reviewers have mentioned, it becomes nasty when switches were added. (Switches shift rows of hexes on the board by 1 row.) First couple of puzzles w. switches weren't too hard, but the 33rd puzzle ... ARGHHH. No instructions, no tutorial, but the U.I. is intuitive enough that most will pick it up quickly. Right-clicking or pressing the space bar, rotates the piece that you are holding w. your mouse. For < $1 + tax, easily got my money's worth. Looking to get 10's of hours of playing time? This probably isn't for you. Liked: * - Easy to learn to play * - No bugs. It was absolutely glitch-free. * - Great value * - Puzzles can be reset, and are automatically save when you exit (only 1/2 done? Finish the next time you play the game) * - Don't have to exit the game, to look at E-mail & other apps; just exit full screen mode. * - Great graphics. Disliked: * - Switches. Would have preferred much bigger boards. Switches add too much complexity. * - No instructions. Hate writing it myself, but like having, and always read it first when getting something new.
Very nice logical puzzle to begin with. Then they added levers... These move rows of the puzzle modifying the setup. This adds an unnecessary and unwanted puzzle-within-puzzle that is too unforgiving and where you can waste lots of time only to find it is unsolvable just because you moved a lever too many/few. Would give thumbs up if the levers were optional/gone.
It's always nice for me to see what kind of logic games are created (with minimal setup). This one looked pretty at first glance, so I decided to buy it on sale, if I remember correctly.
Fun Factor
I don't like to leave a negative review on a low budget game, but the fun factor was not there for me. I found Hexon to be a trail and error type of game. I understand that the logic part is related to finding the right place to fit a piece, but at some point there is not much logic involved (trial and error mechanism). I looked in the comments section and I've learned that there are new mechanisms involved later on in the game. But at this point, I think it will be better for me to just move on to something else.
Suggestion
For this type of game, I found out that it is better to move fast to a new mechanisms (if there is not enough logic involved). Doing this will create, in my experience, an intriguing atmosphere : "Wow it changed already? Hmmm what is going on in this new setup... Let's see. Wow! Another new mechanic?! Interesting." Hexon didn't develop fast enough for me and I lost interest over placing pieces here and there to try to fit them all.

It's pretty. I want to like it. But 1) Solutions are not unique. That makes it much less interesting as it takes away logic and instead leaves trial and error, or luck. Seriously, so much less fun, and so much harder (in a bad way) and more random. 2) Depending on rotation, some of the pieces that are not on the board can merge with or hide each other. I've been stuck a few times because a piece was hidden by another. 3) Placing can be very difficult - it goes by position of shadow, rather than visible position of piece. I can't believe the above is enough to make me doubt my purchase at a 51% discount on such a low price, but it did. I'll keep it, but only just.
UI problems might turn off some players- you can change the angle of the puzzle board to view it from a more vertical angle, but then you can't see many of the pieces waiting to be placed on the board. Amazingly, their position is locked, and usually too far away from the board. Why they would make this functionality and not bother to actually make it usable is beyond me. There is also the gameplay with the switches, as described by other reviewers, which is not very fun and too cumbersome to solve. It is mainly through trial and error, not much logic.
