This game is fresh! It does a lot with its minimalist design and aesthetics. There's some really fun secrets and surprises, but be prepared to do some dying and retrying, especially at the bosses. Options are lacking a bit - control remapping and volume controls would especially have been nice. If you like experimental takes on metroidvania/action-adventures (like Minishoot Adventures, Yoku's Island Express, etc.) and are down for the retro aesthetic you'll find a lot to love here.
This is like a love letter to the old-school while managing to feel entirely fresh and new. Absolutely brutal as a metroidvania should be, but endlessly thrilling when you reach a new point.
game is super cool, clever, and fun. If you think you're clever you should try it. Great game to play while travelling too, on a plane would be perfect. It's fun, it's cool, you should try it
Played about 50/50 between Steamdeck and PC Loved: Atari era graphics Music 10/10 Smooth Controls Varied puzzles Short length Difficulty Didn't love: Some obtuse enemies (see sword guys) Very much worth the play and giving it a shot.
HeroSquare's is beautiful, flashy, and eye-catching. The minimalism serves to highlight the quality gameplay. This is a fun adventure!
Well done little indie game. Music 11/10, graphics 11/10. For how much I hate classic games this was really nice. Only the final boss battle was a bit too sweaty for me, so I cheated more health in. Don't know if there was meant to be any backtracking, the game lead me where I needed to go every single time. Only at the start is it not fully clear where to go. Some of the puzzles are a bit obscure and I wouldn't have figured them out if I haven't already played the game during testing. My advice - act like a cat and try to fit into every box, but also try to pay attention to the rest of the environment. Would be nice if there were achievements, especially for collecting more diamonds than is strictly necessary.
Fun minimalistic metroidvania. Good music. Solid secrets. The last boss was pretty infuriating to me difficulty wise. The attack with the squares all around you hit me 50% of the time even with the slowmo ability.
This top down metroidvania is really well done but it is really not for everyone. It is very heavily focused on parry in order to do damage to enemies. I grew exhausted with this and ended up dropped the game. Playing the demo first before buying is a must. Time to refund...
