About
At our superhero academy, you'll lead a team of teen heroes to battle supervillains! Will you fulfill your heroic legacy or forge your own path?
Heroes of Tomorrow: Hidden Potential is an interactive superpower novel by Eloy Lasanta, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based, 600,000 words and hundreds of choices, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
Welcome to Evos Academy! As a member of the next generation of superheroes in a world where comic books record the deeds of real-life heroes, you don’t pass your classes by writing the correct answers on a paper; you do it by defeating a swarm of super-science automatons in front of a stadium full of cheering fans.
Develop your powers, practice working as a team with your classmates, and develop your own distinctive style while you learn from the greatest heroes that Earth has ever seen: valiant Gladiator, super-gadgeteer Gearhead…
…and, oh yeah, your mom.
Hardly anyone knows that you grew up as the sidekick to your mother, the famed hero known as The Cloak, keeping your gritty metropolis safe from the world's worst villains. Some of your classmates are grappling with a legacy of power, too: Paragon's father is the mighty hero Brilliant, and Red Claw's mother is the villain Destroya. Each of you must choose what kind of hero you want to be. Do you want to be like your heroic parents, or do you want to blaze your own trail?
The choices just keep getting harder when it becomes clear that there's more than your average supervillainy going on. Who keeps breaking into Evos Academy's supposedly ultra-secure campus, and why? Why are your powers acting so strangely? What is the voice that whispers to you in your dreams? Why are all the villains' plots suddenly focused on you? And what will you do when you discover that some of your idols aren't so heroic after all?
• Play as male, female, nonbinary, or genderfluid; gay, straight, bi, or asexual.
• Choose your superpowers—elemental control, energy manipulation, super-physique, beast powers, or telekinesis—and customize your super-suit!
• Romance or befriend a demon seeking redemption, a clever thief with a mysterious client, a powerful mage-in-training, or an already-famous heroic icon.
• Protect the city and become the people's hero, or let the world burn!
• Banter with your foes, build super-tech gadgets, or let your fists do the talking!
• Fight alongside—or against—your classmates and mentors in brutally high-powered action battles!
• Battle supervillains that teleport, shapeshift, summon lava from volcanos, and turn the world into a videogame!
• Uncover the secrets that the heroes have been keeping from you about everything—even about yourself!
Can you defeat criminals, cultists, demons, and midterms?

Enjoyed it quite a lot. A great cast of likeable characters among both fellow students and mentors, cohesive and immersive worldbuilding that doesn't loredump much, smooth writing. Had one playthrough so far but want to play more and explore other superpowers and choices. I really loved the aspect of forging friendships and managing your team dynamics. It's totally feasible to build strong enough relationships with all of your teammates. There's enough room for roleplay and I liked the stat system. Even though I usually prefer to make my characters well-rounded, the game didn't allow it but it didn't feel arbitrary either. It was a good touch of realism for me - there's this much you can work on during the limited time you have. I made a bet on 3 main stats to develop that were quite removed from each other by their nature to have a range of options, chose one to sacrifice most of the time, and I was pretty satisfied with how it panned out for my character and the story unfolding. I understand why it would feel like punishment for some to sacrifice one skill to raise another but it was narratively explained quite well so it felt like I was shaping my playstyle - it's clear how a choice to lean into brawling more would make you rely on finesse less, for example. It was an interesting skill management mechanic for me. Overall I had quality fun with the game and feel like it's worth its money.
It has some things I like and some I don't. The political things like waring a dress after picking male O.O irked me. Otherwise story was good, felt a little like my hero aca anime. Otherwise had a good ending, character dev and selection of powers. The skill up or down system seems a bit off. Over all 8/10

I've given this two solid, careful playthroughs, and I've concluded that this is worth a recommend, but I believe it really depends on what you're looking for. This is not a particularly difficult game (which I am thankful for, after a few other recent CoG titles) so don't come here looking for that. The story is a mixed bag -- it doesn't cover new ground, it never really feels paced in such a way that tension ramps up, and neither does it have a particularly satisfying conclusion, so don't come here for a unique superhero arc, either. This is instead, very much a character driven game. If you like that idea, and aren't against a run-of-the-mill and not fully realised superhero setting, you may well enjoy it. Difficulty and skill checks The skil checks are plentiful but not outrageous. The only thing I really criticise here is that the "personality" skill checks feel unnecessary and limit role-playing. Talents I can understand, whether I am a fighter or not, but having to check every different style of response is a bit tiring and sometimes grating. It gets to the point where you are looking at your stat pool for every line of dialogue you click, and it can be tiring. The talents checks are fine, however, I just feel the rest of it is a bit overboard. Story and setting Nothing new, nothing revolutionary, and I would say, for the most part, a lot of it is unexplored. I never really got a feel for where I lived, for the city, or the world as a whole. The story meandered around, to the point where I had no idea if or when a threat was going to emerge or why I should really be worried about it. We don't know the antagonists enough to understand what is going on there, and the whole Dark Star arc seems woefully unexplored and is swept away more simply than some of the lesser supervillains. There was an idea here, and it was fine, but it just wasn't really executed to my satisfaction. The endings happen quickly and there is little epilogue. I wouldn't come back for the story, if it comes down to it. Characters Fortunately, this is definitely one of the better CoG titles for characters. While some are typical stereotypes/tropes, several hit the mark and fill their role well. You are definitely pushed towards making friends with as many as possible, as that is what is expected in most academic institutions, especially of superheroes, but you can feel free to ignore them. We've got the super-speed nerd, the oddball magician, the actual literal angry demon, the dubious, stealthy thief and the brooding role-model-possible-antagonist character as well. I liked them well enough, some are even memorable, and there's romance stuff going on there if you're into that kind of thing. It's not painfully abrupt relationships like in some other games, and most of the characters seem to have sufficient content, which is welcome. My only comment here after a couple playthroughs is that some characters in particular feel either strange or their writing stifled by the fact all possible romance options can have their character gender chosen. In theory, this shouldn't be a problem, but unless both paths are written out with equal care and can diverge, not allowing to treat each character in a completely unique way feels awkward or just lacking at times. Perhaps it was just me. Overall, characters are the high point of this title. Writing I think it gets better as it goes on. The start is not particularly engaging, and the writing stumbles a bit until the author really gets into the style and pattern of what they're making, but once I was a couple chapters in, it flowed well enough that there wasn't anything specific I could call out. In general, it is solid. None of it I found annoying or unbearable, which was a relief, as that seems to be painfully common in the superhero genre. Choice There is generally good options for choice and effect. Don't expect to completely change the pattern of the game, but you can approach problems and foes in multiple ways, have different friendships and relationships, and there are different endings, at least one of them rather surprising to me. Depending on your choices, at least one character can be almost completely written out of your playthrough, and some can perish. There is replayability here. I played through twice and didn't regret it. Overall In summary, not a bad attempt, but I suspect it will appeal to those who prefer character-oriented games rather than in-depth complex systems, a deep plot, or a well-realised setting. Some part of me makes me feel like a bit more time in the oven could have made this twice as a good with another pass at plot and pacing, but if it comes down to a simple thumbs-down/thumbs-up rating, up it is. It's not a cheap throwaway effort. There's care and attention here, and some definite skill at writing interactive fiction that I feel could only improve with time.
Heroes of Tomorrow: Hidden Potential, developed and published by Choice of Games, is an expansive text-based superhero role-playing experience that leans entirely on narrative depth and player agency to deliver its impact. Rather than presenting flashy visuals or real-time combat systems, the game invites players to step into the boots of a rising superpowered student at Evos Academy, a prestigious institution dedicated to shaping the next generation of heroes. What unfolds is less a traditional video game and more an interactive novel of substantial scale, where every decision shapes relationships, reputation, and the broader trajectory of a world teetering between hope and chaos. The academy setting provides fertile ground for both intimate character development and high-stakes superhero drama. As a new recruit, you must navigate the pressures of training, rivalry, and public expectation while learning to control and refine your abilities. The narrative structure balances personal growth with looming threats, presenting a steady rhythm of classroom challenges, field missions, and social interactions. Rather than relying on simple binary morality choices, the game presents layered dilemmas where consequences ripple outward. A moment of defiance might earn admiration from some classmates but distrust from authority figures. Acts of mercy may complicate future conflicts. This commitment to nuanced consequence gives the experience weight and replayability. Character customization is one of the title’s strongest features. Players define not only their hero’s gender identity and orientation, but also their unique superpower specialization. Options range from elemental manipulation to telekinetic force, beast-linked abilities, or raw physical enhancement. These powers meaningfully influence how scenes unfold. Certain confrontations may offer alternative solutions based on your abilities, while specific story branches become accessible depending on your chosen strengths. The result is a narrative that feels reactive rather than static. You are not simply reading events—you are actively shaping how your hero approaches them. Relationships form a central pillar of the experience. Classmates, mentors, rivals, and potential romantic partners are written with distinct personalities and backgrounds. Some grapple with inherited legacies, whether heroic or villainous. Others question their place in a world obsessed with spectacle and power. Building trust or animosity with these characters influences story progression, opening or closing narrative paths. Romance arcs are optional yet thoughtfully integrated, adding emotional stakes to decisions made during missions and social encounters alike. These interpersonal dynamics ground the superhero premise in relatable human concerns: identity, belonging, ambition, and doubt. The writing carries the entire production, and it does so with confidence. Descriptive prose paints vivid scenes of superpowered clashes, quiet dormitory conversations, and public hero trials. Without visual assets, the burden falls on language to convey spectacle and intimacy alike. The game’s substantial word count allows it to explore themes in depth, examining the societal implications of superhuman ability and the politics surrounding heroism. There is a palpable sense that Evos Academy is part of a larger world filled with hidden agendas and unresolved tensions. Mechanically, the game operates through branching choices rather than traditional gameplay systems. Stats influence outcomes in certain scenarios, encouraging players to cultivate particular strengths. However, success is rarely binary. Even failures can lead to compelling story developments, reinforcing the idea that growth often comes through adversity. The pacing mirrors that of a serialized novel, gradually building toward climactic confrontations and revelations. Multiple endings ensure that each playthrough can diverge significantly based on earlier decisions. Because it is entirely text-driven, Heroes of Tomorrow: Hidden Potential demands engagement from its audience. Players seeking fast-paced action or audiovisual spectacle may find its format minimalistic. Yet for those who appreciate interactive fiction and character-focused storytelling, the absence of graphics becomes a strength rather than a limitation. The imagination fills the gaps, guided by detailed prose and carefully constructed dialogue. Ultimately, Heroes of Tomorrow: Hidden Potential stands as a testament to the power of narrative-driven design. It reimagines the superhero genre not as a series of explosive set pieces, but as an exploration of identity, responsibility, and choice. Through its expansive branching structure, inclusive customization, and richly drawn cast, it offers a deeply personal journey toward heroism—or perhaps toward redefining what heroism truly means. Rating: 6/10
very good super hero story, the plot is engaging and a fun read especially if you are a fan of marvel or dc, the characters are all unique in their own way having their own motives and personalities. I felt like a few details could be better explained before the final chapter but i think that's just result of my character's choices and the route i took. i hear a few people online complaining about the skill checks being too high but from my experience focusing on 2 or 3 skills can let you pass most checks just fine. The only real negative i have on this story is the epilogue it felt too short and doesn't really go into much detail o what happened to your team the city the consequences of your choice on the final battle
Great length, good writing, and choices don't feel railroaded; definitely worth the buy.
Being a fan of the Choose Your Own Adventure books from back in the day as well as superheroes, this was right up my alley. If you like any of those (or hopefully both!), then you will enjoy this. One of the things I appreciated the most about the game is the amount of world-building in here, and it takes the show-but-don't-tell approach- you get hints of the past without it getting info-dumped on you. You're going to be faced with some hard choices, and you absolutely will be second-guessing some of them, but that's what multiple playthroughs are for, right?
It's not quite in the top tier of CoG or HG titles, but it’s a strong entry and easy to recommend for fans of the genre. A solid 7.5-8/10 for me. One of the strengths of the game is you can tell the writer has put a lot of thought into game design. For a CoG title (particularly one building its own setting from scratch rather than leaning on an established IP like the WoD games) the system is impressively well constructed. The mechanics feel deliberate and balanced, and with thought on how they actually serve the story, where acting "out of character" with your strengths can be punishing and with risk of failure. That said, the structure does come with trade-offs as your build meaningfully shapes how you can approach problems - compared to looser IF titles that prioritise pure narrative freedom, the more grounded system does cost a bit of narrative flexibility. Another area where I docked some points is in the prose. The writing is clear and sincere, but often more descriptive than evocative. You always understand what’s happening, but the scenes don’t always linger, and some of the emotional beats don’t quite hit with the weight you get from the very best IF titles. Still, taken as a whole, it’s a confident and well-designed game that felt long enough to feel substantial, without feeling bloated to me. It also has an ending that mostly feels earned which is a bit of a rarity for HG/CoG games. A good first effort from Eloy Lasanta!
