Very funny game. Even its core mechanics is based on turns, it encourages you to act fast (as every level has an optional time limit set, which then is being transformerd into your EXP you can spend on your abilities). BTW. This game is hard. I would really love to see some difficulty settings there :)
Simple yet fun. To get the most rewards you have to move quickly, so even though it's turn based, it gets quite frantic.
"Hero's Descent" is a 2D retro pixelcrap (sigh) well-intentioned train wreck of a game... it's a contentless "speedrun" (and... when procgen is used instead of real content, speedrunning becomes meaningless because you can't "learn" the course) "dungeon crawler". Some interesting, but bad ideas, implemented badly. It's easy to see why this was a complete failure even after being converted to a free game. What do you do in the game? It's basically a ripoff of Hack/Rogue but with a time limit that nobody thought would be a good idea to add to Hack/Rogue. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lot less work. As a result of this poor decision, the game gets tired and repetitive almost immediately. Developers must learn that procgen is a terrible substitute for creating real content. It should not be used as "ez-mode" for content creation, as the developer tried to do here. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $3 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

It's a really simple and fun game to play, I played very little of it, but that's because each run will take about 3 minutes if you go fast and keep dying like a fool, but yeah, It's hard, it's fun, quite challenging. But, to be honest, my only complaint is that at the 3rd area you have all the reasons to try and not go fast, you just have to go slow, and you still can easily die, just because it has random spawning treeants, ambush spiders and bats, aswell as ghosts and mimic chests, so, even when you think you're safe in a stage, you end up dying, but still, quite fun and fast-paced
Before I played Hero's Descent, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good

Fantastic game! I love the look and the soundtrack's great. The gameplay seems super basic and easy, except there's time pressure that makes it way too easy to rush and make mistakes. If you go too slow, you don't get rewards and stay weak. If you go too fast, you make mistakes and die. I haven't beaten the second boss yet, but I'm having a lot of fun dying to crappy little rats and slimes because I'm trying to rush faster than my skills allow. Highly, highly recommended. ----------- Edit after playing many more runs: There are quite a few bugs related to the red square that shows up when the enemies are going to attack. Pretty often it just doesn't show up, which will get you killed quite a few times before you memorize when it happens. The ones I know of: when you're standing in a doorframe, when you're standing in a square with bones, and the turn after the time freeze buff wears off. Sometimes you're just going to lose because the random terrain spawns make the level impossible. I've had webs block the path before with a monster on the other side, so if I walk into the web, I'm guaranteed to take more than enough damage to kill me while I'm stuck. I'm also pretty sure I had the exit completely blocked off by mushrooms once, but I died before I could check. The thing I died to that time is also a pretty annoying thing. The game is all about balancing time pressure with patience and caution, but the third level poops all over that by having enemies randomly spawn in the squares around you as you move. If you don't pause for a second each square you move to make sure nothing spawned, you will 100% die to to those monsters. Sometimes they spawn in such a way that there's nothing you can do about it and you just die, which feels awful. I still think the game's pretty good, but it very badly needs some bug fixes and a way to spawn enemies in the third level that isn't so punishing and unbalanced.
