So, the real question on most people's minds: How is HelixVision compared to VorpX? VorpX: + Makes flat 2D games into 3D + VR view or Virtual screen; tries to add head tracking. + Results are OK to Good. Officially supported game results are mostly good. + Works on AMD and NVidia systems, on most OS's, on most drivers. + Includes pages of options, including reshade-like filters, FOV enhancements, screen manipulation, etc. - No full motion controller support that I know of. Price: ~$40 USD HelixVision: + Makes flat 2D games into 3D on Virtual screen; no head tracking, except looking around virtual screen. + Results are excellent - mostly perfect on supported games. This comes from the developer(s) being crucial members of the 3D Vision community and having a long history of important contributions and understanding of the Stereo3D community and its needs. + Works only on NVidia systems, on preferred OS's, on most drivers; but official driver releases from nVidia have stopped, though there are workarounds. + Basic functionality, as of launch. - No motion controller support at all. Price: $4.50 USD (~one tenth the price of VorpX). Summary in my personal view: Both softwares are amazing for what they offer, and their performance is comparable as of VorpX's latest build. - Buy both. Play games that are supported by HelixVision on HelixVision, as the results are pretty perfect. Play other games with VorpX as they are OK to good (and beyond) experiences. As the developer earnestly points out: both softwares complement each other, not compete with one another. I hope this overview helps people more than some other uninformed 'reviews'...
TESTED ON OCULUS RIFT & WMR. WINDOWS 10 (1904.1), NVIDIA 451.48 Standard. RELEVANT SPECS: 1060 GTX 6 GB, I7-6700, 16 GB RAM.
You can view my how to guide here: https://youtu.be/-9vquwGzNLs I don't understand the mixed review status for this app / tool. This VR tool is only selling for $5 USD. If you can get 1 or 2 games working in 3D in VR, then it's more than worth its price. Keep in mind that several games ported to VR sell for a lot more than $5 USD. I also own and like VORPX. However, for most games (not all), where Helixvision works, it is a better graphical experience than VORPX in my opinion. Rather than tell you more about this tool. I'll just list the games that I have tested on Helixvision into three categories (keep in mind thare are many games that I have yet to test):
AMAZING EXPERIENCES THAT WORK BEAUTIFULLY IN HELIXVISION
1. I will keep updating this review with further results. Also, from my experience, most DX11 or OpenGL games work. Most DX9 games do not work.
Can't wait to play the WHOLE MASS EFFECT TRILOGY + Andromeda in THIS NOW! I played quite a few hours (I don't know why my record is only 0.8, maybe because I was offline?!) in Witcher 3, The Surge and Portal 2 and I really loved it! I already played all those games a long time ago on my 3D Vision Surround setup, but seeing them on a Huge SCREEN in VR instantly made me feel closer to "the action" and more immersed! Like others, I would also want a curved screen (It would make the edges of the screen and the UI there much more visible in VR). Awesome job guys! Keep it up!
Refunded because I couldn't manage to utilize this program. As I understand, It is because nvidia restricts stereovision capabilities anymore. According to the configuration instructions in the app, it requires a specific nvidia driver for 3d steorovision which is v452 or earlier in order to run the feauture properly. I tried to downgrade to that old driver version using the setup link given. But unfortunately, my current system didn't allow me to install that. It seems the current updated windows doesn't support the old nvidia drivers anymore. According to the forum pages, it seems that downgrading the graphics drivers is the only fix right now to run the program properly. And I wouldn't like to downgrade whole my windows system just for the old required driver. So the total requirement here is beyond what I can do.
This might just be a little gem of a program. Ive only just played Res evil 7 for an hour or so but the graphics and stereoscopic 3d fx were fantastic even without me tinkering with the settings, its not as good as supported vr but its a different exciting take on 2d games that will probably never be vr native. felt a little bit yucky but its a new experience from within my HMD so i will get used to it and can probably ease symptoms with some tinkering. Overall im quite excited to try some other 2d titles in 3d on a giant screen inside my vive, when the curved screen is added its going to feel alot more like VR . Ok so after an hour of playing Little Nightmares, something i wouldnt normaly have the patience to play, Im totaly sold on this software, realy cool stuff
Ok folks... You need to keep in mind what this "Tool" is doing. It really is fantastic and like others have said, getting it to work in even a handful of games is extremely rewarding. 1. Make sure you read the instructions. 2. Don't be afraid to "Roll back your Drivers" (this really isn't that big of a deal, in fact sometimes you get better perf on older drivers with specific nvidia GPUs". 3. Did I say read the directions. :) 4. Be patient and fiddle (sometimes pays off big). Don't trash it because you dont follow the directions. Lol. (See a theme here). Honestly it stinks that Nvidia stopped supporting 3D Vision. I have played games in 3D sub the year 2000 (before Nvidia came out with 3D Vision). I always dreamed of this kind of 3D... blimey have you tried MSFS2020 in VR - fantastic (even if you have to make it look muddy)... so big screen 3D Stereo... fantastic. BONUS - try plugging in your GPU to your monitor on at least 2 connections... then go into VR and configure Surround to 2x the monitor width (2 monitors side by side)... load up a game like Borderlands 2 in Helix and enjoy Surround 3D Stereo on a giant screen in VR! Fun times. :) Good luck and be positive - this software is doing some magic to make what Nvidia broke work. :) Hats off to Helifax.
it's broken for win 10 which is the only way to use oculus air link on quest 2, and is therefore uselss to my setup.
These guys have been helping the 3d community for forever. Thanks guys!!! Hope you find a solution for 3000 series cards/updated drivers... THANK YOU!
Does not work with current GPU drivers and has not had any updates in ages. Do not buy unless fixed (which I don't think it ever will). Probably dead software due to changes in nvidias architecture. Edit: Well I eventually did change my driver back to the age old version and... gotta say... its nice, not gonna lie. The driver issue still is huge for me, but it is in a workable state.
I'm not going to leave a bad review or request a refund... Just sit on this software patiently until they update support for the RTX 3080. I'm running an RTX 3080TI and got a little too excited to play Doom Eternal in VR and didn't do enough research to find out this software isn't currently compatible with my current version of windows or Graphics card. I hope the Devs are able to fix this sometime soon i'm anxious to play!
