Heileen 1: Sail Away

First, the good. There is some atmospheric writing and a flair for expressing exotic and interesting locations. The characters who aren't Heileen are often mature and interesting individuals. Ultimately I have to give this a thumbs down because of how aggressively unlikable Heileen is as a character. I'm open to the idea of anti-heroes and characters who are flawed and grow along the course of a journey. Maybe she becomes a more likable person in the sequels? But I could not stand her as a leading character in this game and there wasn't any real indication of her evolving as a person. She starts off and stays snobby and unpleasant. The other characters don't really hold her accountable as well as they could or should.

just mediocre NV but it's still worth your time

Average visual novel and the story is really bland, characters lack humanity feels like everyone is a stiff robot. Won't recommended this game to anyone such a waste of time. Protagonist is really weak and meak and her dialogues are dumb af.

Heileen was the first novel that I played, a couple of years ago, and it was what made me love this genre... And now, I had the chance to play it again, and it filled me with such memories, I love this game and the characters, and strongly recommend to everyone that is into novels

This game was enjoyable enough for me to kill a couple of hours trying to unlock the endings. That said, I can't objectively say it's a good game. There are only three endings, one for each character. Even when I was a jerk to everyone, I still ended up with John (despite the fact that I deliberately wrecked the relationship). I faced zero consequences for being mean, which is a huge flaw in my book. There should've been at least an ending where the character ends up alone due to her rotten actions. Anyway, the plot with Marie was the best so far. I couldn't stand her at first, but she grew on me when I chose her route. John's ending was ok, but I felt like I was being forced to fall for him no matter who I was actually trying to romance. I haven't unlocked Lora's route yet, although I'm trying. The plot was ok and there were enough interesting twists to keep me entertained while I played. The autoskip feature is amazing, it lets me fly through repeated dialogue while automatically stopping at any new text. with it, I was able to play through the game multiple times without getting sick of it. It's one of the best things about this game. I recommend it for people that like VNs and want to mess around with a mindless game for a little while. Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed. I had a fun time with it even though it's not a great vn. Hopefully two and three are much better.
