sweet game really leans into the "what broken stuff can I do this run" hard. The card combination/upgrade system leads to new crazy scaling every run, with near every run feeling like something busted is happening. The game is a bit easy at the lower difficulties because of this, and the in-game difficulty curve is weird too, with the last boss being much harder than just about every fight before even accounting for place in the run. The pathing system is also rather opaque, as far as I can tell it only shows you what your next routes are and nothing after that, and often the node I wanted ends up barely on the edge of my radius. There is also nearly no card removal and many forced card pickups, meaning that my decks often end up with a bunch of crap I don't care about, which I guess is a way to balance having obscenely powerful upgraded cards floating around. Overall the game is really fresh and fun, with mild annoyances.
I had this wishlisted and thought it looked interesting but assumed it was probably a below-average deck builder. I especially try to avoid EA titles because they often are half-bakes. Then I noticed it had a demo, so I decided to download that and give it a try. Less than a hour into the demo I realized this was an above average deck builder even in its EA state with a novel approach to many mechanics while still being familiar enough to pick up and understand immediately. I purchased the full product and have been very pleased with it so far after one full run and a partial run into the 2nd playable "character" out of 5. I am excited to see how the game progresses further from here.
24 hours of play review: <<This game is a great variant on the deck building genre. The rarity in card removal and occasional opportunities to combine cards make every run completely different and I love it. Lots of fun tactics to employ as you climb the difficulty scale, I'm currently on 7 difficulty trying to run as Storm. Play the demo if you want an idea of what is available, you won't regret it. There's a bunch I would love to still see implemented in this game, some rougelike options that will allow you to gain in strength as you play (investing some sort of points into something (e.g. additional card picks when that happens, increased odds of card removals, card combinings, additional tech options, etc.) - everyone loves making their numbers go up!). Some form of endless mode for the option to keep that super powered / lucky run going (with the difficulty scaling up). And perhaps an option to have the card pool be expanded to all the planets' cards, I think the challenge of making (and breaking) a deck when totally different cards are thrown your way would be even more fun. TL;DR: I really like this and recommend it as is, I hope to see some cool directions from this in the future. So buy now and have fun, or buy later and have fun!>> 131 hours of play review: A bunch of additional content has been released including "cheats" that allow for endless mode and infinite combining of cards and other great silliness. The game got better, with more things coming!
Heat Death is spectacular. Love the aesthetic. Great music. Solid system. Must have for deck-builder fans. Only thing I'd like to see is a more satisfying conclusion screen after you finish the game. Definitely buying this for my wife. Interested in what else the developers make.
Game is superb already and I am extremely happy with my purchase. Obv a lot of slay the spire influences but with more than enough ideas of it's own - and plenty of potential for the future. Feels good! Personally I prefer Monster Train to Slay although I've played an enormous amount of both. But this has the potential to be my favourite overall. I'll be playing this a lot and excited for future updates. I also love how the map appears to represent your light cone with the ability to travel at, but never faster than, the speed of light (45 degrees in any direction). This means you will only ever be allowed to travel at a 45 degree angle either way from the boss with some planets out of reach (unable to keep them in your light cone while travelling to your end destination) but the ability to plot a course to the boss maximising (or minimising) your encounters. Very clever and a super nice touch!
Big Thanks to the steam recommender for finding me this hidden gem of a Roguelike Deckbuilder. The interstellar theme is so unique and the variety of cards and builds keep me discovering new things even after 150 hours. Love the music also. Developer is great too, responds so quickly <3 The only thing that would make this better is some narrative (or lore text on the card encyclopedia)
Amazing game with great potential and already plenty of content. Only thing I need from it now is another 10 difficulty levels to try out.

You can't even read the cards. Hovering over a card shows tool tips on what symbols mean but not what the card does. The cards also don't pop out when hovering like other games, so they cover each other up. It's wild to see a card game that makes it difficult to read the cards. The best thing this has going for it is the merging of cards. Which Monster Train already has. So there's just nothing new to see here.
better than starfield
