This is a nice TD. It had a little something different and I was having a great time playing it. Then Wave 11...dang. Hopefully you guys come back to this idea someday...you were unto something great here.

cute
"HeartWood" is a student project from DigiPen and I guess the students passed this year. But the game itself probably isn't worth your time, although it does "work". What do you do in the game? This feels like a proof of concept kind of game, basically a hybrid hack'n'slash game with tower defense elements. Protect a tree by brawling and planting seed "towers"... yawn. There's just not much to it... it gets boring fast. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Such great visual style! I really like the tripod guys :>
Its a cute little game! I love the concept of it as a full on game! The art style is also great! The only major issue I had while playing was the dodge being a bit wonky. I'd get stuck on a a few hitboxes sometimes, both plant and enemy, and would take hits bc character wouldnt move. Would love to see more!
Its really repetitive after 5 minutes and after that its boring and at 15 minutes(or less) you beat it
Amazing game! I loved the art style and the gameplay, I didn't know a tower defense mixed with combat would be so fun! I only wish there was more levels or something, perhaps different trees or areas you need to protect?
