I liked it. It's an AFK game on background when you do something else. It has good and consistent art, entertaining active part of the gameplay and i enjoyed seeing how my hamlet becomes a great medieval fantasy city a lot.
Very good incremental. Solid 10 hours of gameplay, and you could get even more out of it if you want to play on the higher difficulties too.
good
- A cozy medieval/fantasy city-building game in pixel art - Featuring an overall smooth gameplay loop - And no bugs in sight - Wuselfaktor included
Hearth and Hamlet is a medieval city-builder clicker where you start with a campfire and slowly grow it into a kingdom. You assign workers, gather resources, research upgrades, build new structures, and eventually unlock things like laws, trade, and magic while the settlement continues working in the background. Pros ✔️ The pixel art is really good - Watching the lil villagers actually fish, hunt, build, and work gives all the number-go-up stuff something nice to look at while your settlement grows. ✔️ The incremental growth feels rewarding - Upgrades are immediately noticeable, even when it is something simple like turning one resource per click into two. There is always another building, research option, worker, or system waiting a little farther down the line. ✔️ It is actually really relaxing - I can shut my brain off a bit, hold space instead of clicking constantly, and watch the town grow while occasionally jumping back in to sort out food, workers, research, or happiness. Cons ❌ The automation may be a little TOO hands-off for some - Especially early on, a lot happens without much input beyond deciding where workers and resources should go. ❌ I wanted more personal connection to my town - Even something simple like making my own mayor would have helped. A character creator, or even villagers you could customize, would make the settlement feel a little more like mine. ❌ The UI does not always make your options clear - The upgrade book grows as you progress, but I did not always feel like it gave me a clear picture of everything I could currently unlock or work toward. Conclusion Hearth and Hamlet is basically Cookie Clicker with a storyline and a lil kingdom attached, and apparently that works VERY well for me. I could easily leave this running while I do something else and still keep glancing back because I want to see what my town has turned into. At around $10 CAD when I played it, I think there is more than enough here to keep me checking on my tiny kingdom for a long time. Score 8/10 Growing Kingdoms - I started with a campfire and somehow kept coming back to see how far my little town had grown.
