A long time ago, the dev reached out to me and we discussed me actually helping with this game's creation. I couldn't at the time, but I was very hyped for the game when she explained the premise to me. A few months later, and it's here! And I couldn't be more excited. It's a good game! I adored all the facial animations and expressions people had! This isn't a traditional "otome" game, and follows a similar formula to "Long Live the Queen", "Backstage Pass" and "Nicole" rather than "Ozmafia", "Amnesia" and "Hakuouki". Be warned, however, this is harder - and borders more on the side of "Long Live the Queen" in terms of your weekly management, rather than "Backstage Pass" level. There is a secret ending that's already quite hard to get, and 5 variations of it that require you to get the secret ending a few times to get. Still interested? Great, because it's a good game. I simp Eros to hell and back, and I really enjoyed the use of CGs and the large amount of dialogue and scenes that keep appearing as I replay. Steam says I've played 4 hours, and I've reached that number comfortably, and achieved all endings. So It's *fairly* short, but the price reflects that and really isn't much compared to some games on the platform. If you like this genre and you want a new game, go for it. It's very fun. And you can check my guide on it if you get stuck, :^)
usually in a VN i love to play it multiple times to get all the possible endings and unlock all the achievements. i didnt want to do that with this one. that speaks on by itself. the story does not really change depending on your choice. i thought when we were describing Eros to the sisters we were able to choose his looks but no he's always blonde and blue-eyed. i also really wanted psyche to not be nice to her sisters because i already know from my knowledge of the myth that they are evil but again, no choice there. you cannot really impact psyche's personality one bit. also, getting all the achievements unlocked for this game is a chore... basically, this game just you an illusion of choice, as no choice really affects the story except on whether you "succeed" or "fail." it's a 2-dimensional story that is inevitably confined to the mythical story that we all know so well. so the game got old fast for me. in conclusion, there were some positives (achievements feature, artwork is semi-nice), but overall i think this game was a negative experience for me.
Note: A wonderful friend gifted me a copy of this game. ^^ Heart & Soul is an otome visual novel developed and published by GSE Studios. You take on the role of Psyche, a princess from the Greek myth who is renowned so much for her beauty that the people call her their earthly Aphrodite. For anyone who is familiar with Greek mythology, this visual novel is based off of the story of Psyche although there are many endings here. As one can imagine, Aphrodite is not pleased by this, especially since the people stop paying attention to her and only praise Psyche, putting her on a pedestal. Therefore, Aphrodite has a plan to put an end to Psyche by forcing her to marry a monster (but the monster will end up killing her). However, just as Psyche is left to her fate, a mysterious savior swoops in to save her. Next thing she knows, Psyche finds herself in a beautiful castle and then later, she meets the being who saved her, proclaiming to be her husband. Psyche is left in the dark, though, as to the identity of her husband, and she's only temporarily safe, as Aphrodite is still after her. What will happen to sweet Psyche, and will romance blossom between her and her mysterious husband? Will she get her happily ever after? In regards to the gameplay, there are choices presented throughout the story. While some choices have no effect, others can raise or lower affection between Psyche and her husband. However, Heart & Soul is primarily a stat raiser in which you plan Psyche's activities over the course of 40 weeks. Activities can include tending to the fields or offering gifts to the gods, the latter of which (as well as praying to the gods) raises favorability with the gods. Also, there are both loneliness and curiosity meters, which you must monitor since getting them maxed can result in a bad ending. With endings, there are 2 good endings, 2 neutral endings, 7 bad endings, and the true ending. In addition, Steam achievements are present, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "profile features limited". Having gone over the story and gameplay, I'll get down to my thoughts. Since the developer just released a new visual novel, I thought it would be a good time to finally get to playing Heart & Soul. (Also, I have been meaning to get around to this game. ^^) First, I loved the story. It helps that it's based on Greek mythology, which is one of my favorite subjects to study as a hobby. Also, I am very familiar with the story of Psyche. I like Psyche as the main heroine. She's put into this role where the people worship her, even thinking that she's better than Aphrodite. However, it isn't a role that Psyche wanted. It was the people and her parents who pushed this on her. Psyche is quite sweet and innocent although she is human, so aspects like curiosity and loneliness can get to her. Then there's her mysterious husband. Now, for those who are familiar with the story, you can probably guess who he is. Although Psyche doesn't know who he is until pretty late into the story, it is clear that he's clearly fond of her. He wants to protect, cherish, and love her, which is why he rescued her from her fate. Psyche and her husband have quite the sweet, loving romance going on, and she eventually ends up pregnant. I enjoyed seeing their sweet interactions, assuming that you choose the right choices to do so. Also, the other characters, mainly Zeus and Aphrodite as well as Amara and Sirena (Psyche's sisters), help to add to the story. It's clear that Amara and Sirena are jealous of Psyche when they realize how well off she is, while they're supposedly stuck in loveless marriages. Aphrodite is a jealous goddess who's after revenge, and Zeus is stuck in the middle. Not wishing to ramble too much, I like that there are lots of endings. It was nice seeing the good endings, and I especially liked the true ending, where you experience Psyche go through the trials set by Aphrodite. With regards to the writing, I thought the pacing was fine. I didn't notice any grammatical errors or whatnot, and I enjoyed reading the story as I followed Psyche on her adventure. As for the gameplay, the stat raising was doable although it could be a bit challenging at times. Mainly, I'm referring to obtaining certain endings. However, there is a wonderful Steam user guide in case you get stuck on how to obtain any ending. Of course, I was able to obtain all of the Steam achievements. As for the art, it is lovely. The sprites and backgrounds are drawn and colored well, giving off that feeling of being in ancient Greece during the time of the Greek Gods. I did notice that a background picture was missing, which was the one where
Psyche made her trip to the underworld, as one of Aphrodite's trials
. There are a couple of CGs although I wish that there had been more. I just love them in visual novels, but it's all good. ^^ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3341066714 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3341067353 Finally, the music tracks are lovely to listen to. They give off that relaxed vibe, all being instrumental. There aren't many, but the ones that are present are great to listen to. No voice acting is present, but that's usually the norm for visual novels made by indie devs. Overall, would I recommend Heart & Soul? If you enjoy otome visual novels, don't mind some stat raising, and/or enjoy stories set in ancient Greece, then this game is worth taking a look. For the asking price, it might be a little bit steep, as it took me a little over 4.5 hours to obtain all of the endings and earn all of the achievements. However, I used the skip already read text feature, so gameplay hours may vary. I think it is worth getting, but you can always wait for a sale. ^^
The Introverted Gamer and Otome Rakuen team up to give readers highly detailed, thorough reviews of hot romance games.
I loved this game! Such a beautiful love story with beautiful writing, art, and music. Psyche is now my favorite otome princess because she is so sweet and beautiful on the inside and out. I was in tears at the ending I got. Very beautiful game! 10/10! I also appreciate that it wasn't too hard to get the good ending and there were in-game explanations. I recommend this game at full price - it's worth the money. There are also challenges, high replayability, and good simulation gameplay.
Alright first off... This game isn't about chasing a God and making him fall for you. NOPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEE! I gotta learn to read better, but surprises and mysteries... Am I right? This game is... You see that image up above that says "Week 1"?... Yeah... So it's some options and mostly... I want to say "stat building" or simulation thingies... But it's not as hardcore as those... Don't get me wrong. This game IS HARD. I am not a simulation/stat builder and if I was... Please don't ever ask me for tips... I like myths (no matter how psychotic those Gods are) and I wanted to see a GOOD ENDING. I followed a guide. I thought I was doing well and then... I don't wanna talk about it. So basically, this is a fun-read and colorful to look at and lovey dovey when you are doing your thing and your "Husband" is around. The other part... Is going to keep me several hours up at night brainstorming on how to beat it. This is NOT to discourage you! Unless you loathe bad endings then *ahem*... Better be a damn good player at this game then! There is even a Demo for you to try and to see what you are getting into. I just wanted to write a review about a game that makes me both love and hate it... Driving me up the wall in hopes that I can get that Good Ending... I am not even sure why in the hell I wasn't allowed a fifth reset from those beep sisters... Anyway, you wanna read and do challenges that make you work for it? YOU GOT IT! Oh and "Husband" is so cute... He so fluffy... Like a sheep... With wings... I pretend that was a good ending. For now. (Note... I will continue to play this game and will eventually beat it... Boy, talk about a game that makes you upbeat and wants you to come with strategies!)
Cute game , I liked the roman inspired world , the music was awesome and relaxing . The story is good and for its price it is a good deal for about 3 hrs or so , it took me . over all it a good game , price good and story is good .
Great use of VN to retell story about Eros and Psyche from Greek Mythology. The Heroine is such a cutepie. remind me of such great VN like Backstage Pass" or "God Save Queen". A bit short- what can be seen as positive as negative.
Very interesting story. Psyche is a total babe. I'm excited to see all the different endings
Pretty good game, the art is fantastic and the storyline is interesting. I've played most of the endings so far and am excited to finish everything else up. I've played a fair amount of free visual novel games, and you definitely get significantly more content than the free ones. The weekly planner is a really cool addition. I saw another review that stated it was similar to Long Live The Queen which is true (although instead of leveling up your own skills you're leveling up favor with the gods to achieve different endings). It has more of a strategy aspect than your traditional vn since you also have to factor in the loneliness and curiosity meters too. I really do think that both of these aspects make it much more engaging and challenging for the players, and you're choices actually do have a big impact on the endings which is pretty rare to find. I would say the price is definitely worth it for the fact that you get good art and music, multiple endings, and interesting plotlines for at least 3 hours.
Love this game! I have been waiting for a mythological visual novel for years and this is brilliant. The artwork is wonderful. However, it seems to be a bit buggy as I still cannot get the last two endings- Pandora's Box and Bad Ending 3, despite fulfilling the requirements. But otherwise, this game is highly recommended! It deserves more attention.
