Fantastic Game. Incredibly emotional through and through. Its a bit of a slow start but when it picks up it picks up. Easily one of the best Yuri VN's I've ever played.
Instant classic of the Studio Élan catalogue. It's an absolute rollercoaster thriller with some strikingly human characters (yes, even the ghost) and some pretty great character interactions. It wasn't the most stunningly brilliant mystery ever, but was still solid enough to keep me guessing for just the right amount of time. Plus, Tara Bryck is quite possibly *THE* best-written transfemme character I have seen to date (and trust me, I've seen a good number of them before). Glad I finally took the time to clear it out of my backlog recently after reading Please Be Happy. Favorite moment out of the whole game:
Tara rambling on about her feelings for Morgan for four paragraphs, Morgan saying, "You're in love with me." and Tara anxiously exclaiming "I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU!!"
A very cute and emotional yuri story ♡
Great game, great experience, never a dull moment, always full of gay gay homosexual gay. Tara is love, Tara is life. Finger guns for days. Thank you to Studio Elan and all the people involved in Heart of the Woods for creating this wonderful game!!
Heart of the Woods is a supernatural visual novel developed and published by Studio Élan that masterfully blends mystery, romance, and fantasy into a deeply emotional experience. Set in the remote mountain village of Eysenfeld, the story follows paranormal content creators Madison Raines and Tara Bryck as they travel in search of material for their struggling online channel. Their investigation into local legends quickly takes an unexpected turn when they encounter a mysterious ghost tied to the village's hidden past. From its opening moments, the game establishes an enchanting atmosphere, drawing players into a world where folklore and reality coexist beneath a blanket of snow. One of the game's greatest strengths is its storytelling. Rather than rushing from one plot point to another, Heart of the Woods takes its time developing its characters and relationships. Madison serves as the emotional center of the narrative, and her journey from detached observer to someone deeply invested in the fate of those around her feels natural and compelling. Tara's lively personality offers a welcome contrast, injecting humor and warmth into even the darkest moments. As the cast expands, each character receives meaningful attention, making their motivations and struggles feel genuine. The romantic elements are handled with care, becoming an integral part of the overarching narrative instead of existing as a separate subplot. Visually, the game is exceptional. Studio Élan delivers beautifully illustrated backgrounds and expressive character portraits that bring Eysenfeld to life. The village itself feels isolated yet inviting, with every snowy path and lantern-lit building contributing to the title's fairy tale aesthetic. Combined with a memorable soundtrack and strong voice performances during key scenes, the presentation creates a consistently immersive atmosphere. The supernatural moments are especially effective because they rely more on tension and emotion than traditional horror techniques, allowing the game to maintain a haunting but comforting tone throughout its runtime. Although Heart of the Woods is primarily a visual novel with limited gameplay mechanics, the choices players make influence the story's direction and determine which ending they receive. This encourages replayability and adds weight to important decisions. The pacing can occasionally feel deliberate, particularly during the opening chapters, but this slower approach allows the game to establish its themes of memory, loss, and enduring connections. By the time the larger mysteries surrounding the village are revealed, the emotional investment built over hours of dialogue pays off considerably. The game's writing consistently explores ideas of belonging, sacrifice, and the passage of time. Its paranormal premise serves as more than a backdrop, becoming a vehicle for examining how people hold onto the past and the consequences of refusing to let go. The balance between mystery and heartfelt character moments is impressive, ensuring that neither aspect overwhelms the other. Few visual novels manage to intertwine romance and supernatural storytelling as seamlessly as Heart of the Woods, and the result is an experience that feels both intimate and grand in scope. Heart of the Woods may not appeal to players seeking fast-paced gameplay or complex mechanics, but that is clearly not its objective. Instead, it succeeds by delivering a thoughtful and emotionally resonant narrative supported by excellent art direction, music, and character development. Studio Élan has created one of the more memorable entries in the visual novel genre, offering a captivating tale that lingers long after its conclusion. For fans of story-driven experiences and supernatural romance, it is an easy recommendation. Rating: 9/10

Solid VN all around... I enjoyed the voice performances and the soundtrack very much.
Cheesy, and the pacing is a little odd at times, but the emotions it brings... indescribable. It is an absolute rollercoaster that can have you alternate between feeling like the world is ending and that its been saved every 20 minutes, and it never gets old. Highly recommend
