Despite its undeniable charm and potential fun factor, the game justly received mixed reviews, with many players feeling dissatisfied with the current state or outright disappointed. Unfortunately some very unfavorable decisions were made here and metaphorically speaking, completely plucked the bird. Left bare, stripped of its feathers and rejected, the poor thing now sits right in front of us, opens its beak and sings: "...How can you just leave me standing Alone in a world that's so cold? (So cold) Maybe I'm just too demanding Maybe I'm just like my father, too bold Maybe you're just like my mother She's never satisfied (She's never satisfied) Why do we scream at each other? This is what it sounds like when doves cry..." Watching that naked pigeon put on sunglasses and sing Prince during a purple rain almost breaks my heart. Yes, the game is a bit overpriced and the Deluxe Edition with the Pigeon Pass is nothing but poor-quality dry food that gives you gas. And yes, for a self-proclaimed rhythm game there are suspiciously many reaction and memory rounds but the biggest problem though, is that hardly anyone plays the game anymore and a lot of people say it’s basically dead. Some believe that the game should be free to build a real user base. I don’t think that’s strictly necessary but Glee-Cheese and Team17 definitely could have done more with frequent free updates and free DLCs, recurring and moderated online events and by putting the game on deep sales much earlier, like -95%. And that’s the most important point of this recommendation, wait for a sale ($1.99 or 5.99 DE/PP) and then grab a drink of your choice, some good headphones and have some fun with it. Also think about gifting the game to a friend or two, so we can gleefully coo in there as a little flock. Edit (02/07/2026) As of writing this right now, I’d like to invite everyone who owns the game or is interested in it, to a HEADBANGERS WEEKEND where we’ll either play together in numbers again or maybe one last time. This will take place on February 21 and 22. More info will follow in the comment section and on the forum. Maybe we have to take the initiative ourselves, so that this poor naked pigeon doesn’t get run over by a bus, while trying to peck at some breadcrumbs on the side of the road. And seriously, what kind of fool throws stuff like that around? Bread isn't really good for birds at all, what's just wrong with some people? ; )) Edit (02/23/2026) Now after the HEADBANGERS WEEKEND, there are a few additional points that should be mentioned here. 1. The game isn’t dead, even if some people here like to claim that. It’s just the typical situation many multiplayer games go through. At release a lot of people check it out but most of them move on after a short time or go back to their usual multiplayer game. From time to time a few players drop back in and during sales some new ones show up thinking "Whatever, I’ll give it a go now, I can always go back to Call of Duty or Minecraft." So every now and then you’ll find a few players around and that’s simply how it goes. The devs were probably aware of this and didn’t put much more effort into it. 2. On Saturday it took a while until more players showed up. During the first half of the day I mostly played with a friend and a few times a couple of other players joined for a moment, but they didn’t stay for long. Later on it became more active, usually with around 4 to 7 other players in the matches. But the next day it got interesting, because sometimes more than 10 players were around and they weren’t always the exact same people in each tournament. So there was some movement in it and it became so much more fun once more players were around. 3. Organizing something always takes some work and to be honest this was also an experiment. If enough people had shown up, including a willingness to interact, like actually communicating, then we could have considered building a little cozy community, with the idea of trying to hold a HEADBANGERS WEEKEND once a month. So I’ll be moving on as well now, okay I’ll play a few more rounds but then switch over to Jumping Jazz Cats, where things will probably play out in a very similar way. By the way, did anyone notice that we even took some time to make a Guess It! remake? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neY31LXT5aA
Great game but it really needs local multiplayer...
I decided to try this game since it was on sale! It's really charming! The style and goofy little world is really cute! Plus I loved the music and character customization, but I have a couple problems: First of all, since there aren't many players online, I had to play with bots which I don't mind this in particular, but the thing is they're really easy to beat, and songs are cut off short due to defeating them early (so I don't get the chance to fully play through really cool songs, which is a bummer!!) Not only that. but if you're playing by yourself, you're forced to sit through match-ups being set for you (which takes an annoyingly long time, only to end up playing with a bot for three seconds, and then the whole matching process starts up all over again. Honestly spent more time waiting to be matched with a bot rather than playing the game itself.) I would have loved an option to pick and choose songs to play on your own! And same goes for mini games! Overall, this is the kind of game where you play with friends for game night, but it's not really optimized for a solo player game loop So for now, I advise others to grab a friend to play with while it's on sale! This game definitely still deserves a chance! :)
Its a shame this game is DEAD- its actually pretty fun. I like it enough that I bought it on XBOX and then again on my Steam account lol I wish it wasn't dead- but I wish it didn't take literally 15 mins to get into a game of nothing but bots.
I can see where the dev's were going with this, however, its not really fun when 90% of multiplayer mode is BOTS. If you have enough people (say local play) then there isn't any issues.
I'm disappointed by the games. The challenges defnitely could be fun, but there seems to be no offline training possibility at all. And for the online challenges the wait time is way too long: over 20 seconds for the connections to the server and then another minute untilthe game starts. And then - at least as beginner - you play for a few minutes at most only to need to wait for the next game equally long. If there was a way to play the games offline, I would definitely change my rating, but to have to wait a third of my time playing this is not what I find fun.
Headbangers is simple, silly, and fun! It's easy to jump in and out of the game because the tournaments go quickly. Its a shame I don't see more players online, but the game has a sufficient number of (clearly labeled) bots that you don't NEED other humans to play. The game doesn't do local multiplayer, but it does do online co-op!
Vraiment dommage qu'il n'y ait personne en ligne car ce jeu est super cool. Si vous aimez les jeux de rythme allez-y ! Quel dommage qu'aucun mode solo ne soit présent...
