The prologue to Hauma - A Detective Noir Story had me hooked pretty much from the start. I love the comic book visuals and the game had some good voice acting to boot. There are certain “puzzles” to solve in order to progress. I use the word mostly due to lack of a better one. It’s really just finding certain items you need or discovering clues through dialogue that you can use on another person to further things. It’s not difficult but it does add an extra element so the game isn’t strictly a visual novel and it does all make logical sense which I appreciate. The music is also well done. I played the prologue on Linux using Proton. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs or spelling errors. There is no menu at all and no options. The prologue also didn’t seem to have a save system. Hopefully these things change for the full game. Performance was great even on Intel onboard graphics. Despite not having a v-sync option the game respected my refresh rate. Game Engine: Godot Graphics API: OpenGL Disk Space Used: 456 MB GPU Usage: 36-89 % CPU Usage: 5-12 % System RAM Usage: 4.5-4.7 GB Frame Rate: 100-165 FPS If you enjoy visual novels or light puzzle games I would suggest trying Hauma - A Detective Noir Story. It has a fantastic style, an interesting story, and some decent mechanics. I finished the prologue in thirty one minutes and am looking forward to getting the full game. My Score: 9/10 My System: Intel i5-12600K | 32GB DDR4-3200 CL16 | Intel UHD 770 | Mesa 23.0.4 | Western Digital Black SN850X 2TB | Trisquel 11.0.1 | Mate 1.26.0 | Kernel 6.9.3-gnu | Proton 9.0-1

Step into the shoes of Judith, a former detective with a sharp wit and a knack for getting things done, as she uncovers a conspiracy among the city's upper echelons of society. Hauma is a detective noir story game in a visual novel style, set in the heart of the city of Munich. This prologue is a really well made introduction to the story and world of this game. The story seems really interesting far, the artstyle looks fantastic even though it has a little sketchy feel to it, and the voice acting is top notch! I definitely recommend checking this prologue out and getting the main game, which is out already, if you are interested in point & click visual novel type of games with interesting stories. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1443470/Hauma__A_Detective_Noir_Story/ Recommended and I can't wait to get the main game!
6/10 An adventure/VN/detective in comic book setting. Good: - nice comic-book art style - pretty good music - the whole story is voiced - interesting theme of secret parties with illegal entertainment for the rich, reminded me Eyes Wide Shut movie back from the 2000s So-so: - it's just a point-and-click adventure where most of the time there is only one connect thing to click or reply to chose to let the story progress. There are no actual puzzles or gameplay to speak of. You just do the only possible action and "solve puzzles" without even understanding what you are solving. E.g. at the very beginning you pick up a piece of cloth simply because it's a clickable object, only to later see that it will be your costume - the bar background and some other images are drawn like a stub/sketch, with too little detail Bad: - nothing really Overall, it seems to be a more or less linear visual novel with an attractive gfx style. Adding more gameplay elements, with actual puzzles or minigames would certainly make it more interesting and game-like, if the devs had that in mind, I dunno. not bad
"Hauma - A Detective Noir Story - Prologue" is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. Worse, this isn't even a complete e-book, it's just an advertisement for an e-book, and the e-book itself is a nauseating high school fan-fiction about the authors imaginary girlfriend, who is also a detective. It's great when high school students have such vivid imaginations about their girlfriends. It's not great when they write themselves into garbage fan-fictions with their girlfriends and publish them on Steam Direct. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "Hauma - A Detective Noir Story - Prologue" The purpose of this advertisement is to get you to shell out a whopping, completele delusional $12.50 USD on buying "Hauma - A Detective Noir Story", and I don't recommend you do that either. Over twelve bucks for a garbage fan-fiction. Jesus wept. As an advertisement, this is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's important to understand there's a formal process to create a demo/page for a game which hasn't been followed here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos While it might seem like an inocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. Advertisements and incorrectly published demos don't add +1 to your game collector count, they aren't full games. It's impossible for me to recommend this incorrectly published advertising spam to gamers, you deserve better than adverts. Despite having no up-front cost, this advertisement for a book failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the e-book peaked at only 2 concurrent readers... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. The funny thing is, if you wanted to print this book, you'd only need to print 2 copies to satisfy the entire world's demand for it. Valve seriously needs to consider hiring a QA department for Steam Direct.
