About
Hartacon Tactics is a survival turn-based tactical RPG, featuring higly deterministc mechanics, beautiful hand-painted 2D art and deep gameplay.
Hire characters of unique classes, and wisely use their strengths, skills and weapons to defeat enemies as you travel through the continent of Kaus in the single-player survival campaign, or challenge other players in co-op battles and multiplayer.
Hartacon Tactics is a survival game, it has a setting but not a story. Think of Minecraft, you have things to do, places to go and enemies to fight, but not a plot where you save the world and cut scenes or dialog. If this is not for you, just skip this one, I am still your friend.
Classes
Classes differentiate themselves in terms of a variety of battle stats: from strength to magic power and defense, movement capability such as walkable distance and jump height, as well as frequency of action. Moreover, fighters of each class specialize in the use of a weapon and its related techniques. The knight is your all-round balanced warrior, the dwarf a front liner with great defense, the lionman an unstoppable force of nature, and the list goes on with eight carefully diversified unit types, each with their own strategic role in battle.
Weapons
There are many different weapon types: swords, bows, axes, knives, and all have their characteristic attack patterns and allow the execution of specific techniques. Axes can be used to break your opponents armors, knives thrown to inflict status ailments, while hand combat is good to move targets and open paths through your enemy's defense line.
Magic
All magic skills belong to some element, and different elements include skills that are quite different from each other expecially in terms of range and area of effect.
Water skills can hit multiple targets in wide patterns, and they can target only positions lower than the caster; Earth skills always affect the positions around the caster; Lightning skills can only strike single targets and have no height limitation; Wind skills target multiple positions and have the widest range.
In addition, some elemental skills may cause some status ailments, like Ice skills inducing Paralysis, or Lightning skills inducing Darkness.
Different characters have higher or lower affinity with each element, making them more or less vulnerable and able to deal more or less damage.
Character customization
You can develop your characters by learning new skills and balancing their battle stats to suit your strategy.

Had this been an alpha release, it would have been a great one. This very much feels like an unfinished product. It had great potential to be a fun simplified FFT. It's a shame it was released like that and then forgotten by its developers. :(
JOGO MUITO BOM, DA PARA SE DIVERTIR POR HORAS
This game is super rough. There is zero tutorial, and you're just left guessing. In the very first battle, which you can't avoid, the enemies absolutely wrecked me, so they are apparently many levels higher. This is only for masochists.

It could be fun, but unfortunately it's so basic, only 8 classes and all the enemies are these classes so every fight feels the same, there's a decent amount of skills but just no point since everything else is so bare bones. Needs more content to be actually fun. maybe if you could take on quests like in FFT that would help but since there is only 8 character models in the whole game and skills lack visual flair, it gets boring quick. 4/10
This game has potetial, but a lot has to be improved, includind the sound effects who are very very poor and, despite what some people may think, it's a very important aspect of a game
Pas de coopération local pour le mode campagne. Et controle pas intuitif
This seems to be an unfinished game in the style of Final Fantasy Tactics and similar classic grid based tactics games. The bones of a decent game are here, but there's no story, no reason to progress, and no polish. Edit: In view of the developer's response, I admit I did not read the game description closely. However, one point stands. This game offers no reason to progress. When it offered a 'survival campaign' I expected significantly more to justify the appellation of 'campaign'. Admittedly, I never progressed passed the first couple tiles which featured bland samey maps and a selection of characters with no meaningful personality or skills. The developer did say 'survival' but I didn't realize that also meant it lacked all description, character design, or flavor beyond what you get from the pixel graphics. Given that the developer won't respond positively to this review regardless of what I say, I will go ahead and make some suggestions that won't be followed. Generally, a survival game causes you to die more or less frequently. Most survival games explicitly require your characters to die in order to progress or have death as a ubiquitous event. This game has neither of those things. As such, I feel that it fails to qualify as a survival game. Instead, it can be described as a game where the characters simply persist in doing the same things over and over for no particular purpose or notable change. Similarly, even in the absence of cohesive story, the complete lack of flavor, humor, characterization, description, or setting cannot be simply ignored by declaring that the game is a survival type game. You may note that the great survival games of any genre you can name have at least some of those things. Consider Left 4 Dead 2 which is about surviving in a zombie apocalypse. Despite the fact that it is only about shooting zombies and getting from point A to point B it includes a significant amount of humor, a weak B movie plot, and different characters with distinct personalities. One can see that those aren't throwaway qualities because the game made a ton of money and some people probably still play it.
The game seems to be designed for a controller, but using a controller the controls were still extremely clunky. I was unable to change my facing at all after moving, even through the arrows seemed to imply I should be able to. Instead every character just turns to moon the enemy after they finish moving. Seems unpolished and buggy. Also there are only 6 sprite sets for characters the enemies all look the same as your characters. Not even palette shifting, so there isn't much character to the game.
Consistently crashes, would otherwise be a good game.
It takes getting into. Which is why I tried it first XBLIG back in the day but it just felt… off. I can’t remember exactly why, but for one reason or another I just couldn’t get into it. I decided to give it another go, and I just somehow “got it”. Yes, I wish there was a tutorial and more explanation before it threw you into things but if you can overlook its steep learning curve and it’s god-awful controls (i use a controller in one hand, mouse in the other) there’s a fun game full of heart. (In a new control scheme is in beta and I keep meaning to try it out.)
