More About Hanctt Origins (THE HANCTT BIBLE)

Main Story
The calm and quiet days of Yud Town, Lornde Police Station, where Gab worked, were shaken by a murder. Among his routine duties, Gab left his office at the police station and went to meet his wife, Lina, who shares the same profession with him. Lina gave him details about the summary of the incident; They were found in the middle of a murder for which Captain Bergerson was taken into custody. Gab went down to the holding cell, full of curiosity and questions.
Bergerson shared with Gab ancient secrets and mysterious information about the continent of Hanctt. Gab took a tour around the town and reached the scene of the murder. The police were carrying out a detailed study together with the crime scene investigation team. While Lina took the lead as crime scene investigation manager, Gab made efforts to search for clues.

As they moved towards the port under Gab's guidance, Lina noticed a glow... Gab's eyes darkened and then she found herself on the other side of the interrogation table, that is, on the criminal side. Police officers began asking him questions about the murder, but Gab was unable to answer due to the shock of the incident. His colleagues decided to expel Gab from his profession because they thought Lina had been murdered, but they did not have enough evidence.
Gab decided that the only way out was to cooperate with Bergerson and go to the Hanctt continent. On the continent of Hanctt, in the Ludtern region, his main mission focused on finding his mate. This was Gab's evolution of what was initially a simple murder investigation into a complex story that took him on a journey deep into the Hanctt continent.
A Broken, Buggy Mess of a Game
For the tenth time, I start this level again. The opening room is full of ranged enemies, and the ranged enemies just cannot seem to miss. I have to dodge behind pillars before they shoot in order to keep my health. I'd normally take them out at range, but the game starts you with the same amount of ammo you had when you died, and since I've now wasted it all trying to get through this room multiple times, I'm outta luck. Well, on to death number 10... Hanctt Origins is a boomer shooter FPS in the style of retro games, similar to contemporaries like Project Warlock. The story is simple (for the story that's there for now), your wife has disappeared and you're looking for her. To do so you end up having to carve your ways through various enemies with the weapons at your disposal, which includes a knife, a revolver, a shotgun, and more. You're also given the opportunity to go to the menu and trade in points from killing enemies to increase your damage with the various weapons to give yourself a fighting chance. I wanted to love this game. I love boomer shooters, I love retro visuals, and I love Lovecraftian tales; but this game just does not work in its current state. While I understand it's in Early Access, it has a few too many negatives to outweigh the positives. Here are my thoughts: Pros: Retro Visuals: The visuals combine hand-drawn sprites with a more standard modeled background. I love this look, as it gave me vibes of LucasArts Outlaws from back in the 90s. The enemies look cool, and the environments look spooky. Shotgun: While I have problems with the weapons overall, which I'll touch on down below, the shotgun definitely rocks. Once you get it, the game turns into a proper boomer shooter by giving you the ability to mow through enemies without a care in the world. Cons: Difficulty/Gameplay: There are no difficulty options for the game, and this game is definitely ridiculously hard/slow-paced in the beginning until you get the shotgun way late in the available levels. All the ranged enemies, which are the majority of your foes, cannot seem to miss if they shoot at you. It's also difficult to try and time hiding from them as the sound design has their gun shot sound long before the bullet actually hits you. Added to this, enemies do a ridiculous amount of damage and health can be scarce in early levels. Guns Suck: Almost all your weapons, save the shotgun, tend to do very little damage compared to your knife. This wouldn't be so bad, but the enemies also take far more bullets to kill than they tend to drop, and that's even if the enemy drops the type of ammo you need. In early levels, where you only have the revolver, enemies will tend to drop machine gun and shotgun ammo just as often as revolver ammo, meaning you're collecting ammo for weapons you don't have. This means that until you get the shotgun, you're regularly forced into using your knife for close encounters against enemies that do a lot of damage. Hiding is Your Only Strategy: When you take all the above, this leads to your best option in early levels to pop out, kill as many enemies as you can with your knife, and then run and hide when your health drops below 25. As your health does slowly regen back to 25, you'll then pop out again and try to take out another enemy or two. This results in an incredibly slow-paced game that is just not fun at all. Upgrades Seem Minimal: There are upgrades available for your weapons, but they cost a lot of points, and I'm honestly not sure how the points are awarded. There's also some upgrades for the guns that I'm not sure what they do; my best guess is they cause the enemy to explode when killed, but that's only a guess, as there's no explanation on the upgrade page. In addition, each regular upgrade seems to increase the damage of the weapon by only one point, which does help, but not enough to be overly beneficial. Poor Level Design: A lot of games of this type tend to have a level cycle that goes: Head to room that's not locked, grab key, use shortcut back to starting area, open new door, repeat. This game gets rid of the shortcut and instead just seems to send you back and forth to opposite ends of the map to look for keys that open a door far on the other side. This wouldn't be so bad, but there are no enemies that respawn when this happens, which means each walk back is just a dull affair as you quickly rush to the next door. Unable to Restart/Choose Levels: While this game does have a levels/act screen, and even shows it in the screenshots on this page, it actually doesn't let you choose levels to jump to, even if you already completed them. In addition, the game autosaves every time you hit a new level, and there is no in-game option to start a new game. This means that the upgrades are doubly unhelpful as you cannot go back to earlier levels with the upgrades you got to grind out more points, and instead have to keep bashing your head against the wall in your current level. Buggy Mess: The game is definitely in early access, and has some game breaking bugs. While most were just inconvenient, such as getting stuck on an object midlevel and having to restart, I did actually encounter game breaking bug where after finishing what I assume was all the available levels, I was booted back to the main screen. However, if I chose the Play option, it would play the intro cutscene, and then nothing would happen. It wouldn't load the game, and a continue prompt wouldn't appear. This continued even after I did a fresh install, meaning I'd likely have to wipe my save with all my progress just to play again. Overall, I cannot recommend this game at this time. I really did want to like this game, but it's likely I'll refund it at this point as it is way too early in development to have even been released in Early Access. There are lots of boomer shooters out there, and even some that have Lovecraftian elements if that's what you're looking for, that do the job a lot better for a similar price.
how is this ♥♥♥♥ on Steam? It's not finished.
It might have retro visuals, but the same style is not visible in gameplay. Story isn’t going to blow you away. It deals with a detective whose wife went missing, and since everyone thinks the detective killed her, he decides to go to the mysterious island and find out what’s really going on. There he stumbles upon a cult Most of the story is presented through text before the start of a stage. While the text is decent with minor grammar mistakes, the protagonist’s voice sounds too robotic. Gameplay fits the retro shooter category. This means you’ll speed through stages and won’t have to worry about reloading. Your arsenal is pretty basic compared to most shooters out there. All you get are a revolver, shotgun, machine gun, plus katana and knife for melee attacks. Sadly, shooting doesn’t fit the retro style. This is not a game where you rush through the stage and mow down countless enemies. Especially because you deal more damage with a knife. Headshots don’t matter, and the amount of bullets it takes to kill something depends on the type of enemy. There’s also problem with ammo because different enemies drop different type of bullets. So this means you’re pretty much forced to kill most enemies with a melee weapon because there’s simply not enough bullets. But the worst is that enemies simply can’t miss and deal huge amount of damage. Although your health recharges to 25%, this doesn’t mean much because it only starts recharging after a while and you’re still dead after taking two bullets. This creates slow encounters where you use the few bullets to take out enemies, then run inside and start slashing around with a knife. Then you run to cover to heal, and repeat. Sadly, this never works for long because two enemies in an open space will always kill you. In conclusion, this is still in early access so most things will probably be fixed and/or updated. The idea is fine and requires a bit slow approach, but so far you aren't offered the tools to handle far too difficult situations.
Pretty buggy game at this point but interesting concept. Ammo count is constantly broken which makes it really difficult to play.
Absolute trash. Most basic features are missing. Sensitivity as sensitive as a blind cobblers thumb. Save your money, buy Forgive Me Father instead.
Awful! Head shot after head shot and the game doesn't register. Get this garbage off of Steam.
This game is not good. Even from the standpoint of paying 2 bucks, this game is not good. Enemy hitboxes are all over the place, scoring headshots when my crosshair isn't even touching the head, limbs not even registering as shootable parts and being 2d sprites does not help in the slightest. When quitting and loading, the game straight up just deletes any weapons you picked up previously, so have fun suddenly being sat back down with your dinky little revolver that fires as consistently as a toaster in a bathtub. A toaster in a bathtub being preferable to actually playing this game is another thing the ol' toaster bath has going over this game, as the enemy design is straight up awful and considering it's lauding itself as a "boomer shooter" that's nigh on unforgivable. I play a lot of bad games, even some straight up awful ones. I can overlook ai-generated voices, artwork and awful level design if the core gameplay at least has some meat to it, but this slapshod mess barely has the bones of gameplay, enemies fire projectiles on a massive delay from when they're fired, (except when they don't because who needs consistency?) your own gun seems to be hitscan, I say "seems" because I can't tell either way the shooting is so awful, and trying to tell one part of a level from the other is a lesson in patience and codebreaking skills. Did I mention that you can't change, or even see any of your bindings? I've played solitaire programs with more settings, having some customizability wouldn't kill the intended experience. (If you can find it.) There's an enemy in the game that's a perfect metaphor for playing it, it jumpscares you, locks you in place and lets you take damage from every other source nearby and then kills you. (You still have to kill it before you're allowed to die, and these things are placed everywhere.) This perfectly replicates exactly how playing it feels, locked in my chair taking psychic damage from this undercooked, underdeveloped and unbelievably bad game until I quit. It may seem like i'm being very harsh, but this is a 1.0 full release of a game, not early access. Nobody wants to sit down after a day's work, load up a full release game and feel like they're playing an alpha. This game could be good, but it needs an awful lot of work to get there, and unless you're content to support the developer and wait having it sit in your library until it's at a playable point, I can't recommend buying the game.
The game's story and environment design are great. I highly recommend it!
