An excellently well-made game with: - wondrous music (seriously, it's heckin' good) - Excellent art direction, sprites, and backgrounds (pink paradise is as much of a trip as you'd think it is) - excellently polished gameplay feel (there are just some bugs, like those bouncy spore things the wizards make, The pink spores sometimes fly though walls. Also, the sushi section has sections where I feel like I did the button, and it didn't jump. But might be skill issue on my part.) Overall, big recommend if you're okay with hard games.
Hi Gavin. Former Gamejolt buyer of your game here. Just wanted to say i'm pretty excited about how this game will develop now that it's on a PROPER game site (pardon me there...) Just recently gone through all 3 stages without killing anybody, and there's several things i'd like to say: 1. Gonna miss the old plot of Hamachi being a serial killer, but i like the storytelling possibilities of Hamachi being the unfortunate host of a bloodthirsty demon, especially with the Undertale-style sort of routes you can undergo. 2. How long will the game be? Going from a seaside, to a desert, then to a 'high on dat good ♥♥♥♥' desert all seem pretty far apart from each other to me. That's just all me, though. 3. As a suggestion, why not make the other green fellas (form Riches Reef) freak out if they see you kill somebody? And on the other hand, regarding the Lantern Spawn's mechanic of not attacking you if you haven't killed, will there be more enemies like them? 4: What's with the wizard that appears at the end of both Desolate Demise and Pink Paradise? What's her story? And i'll finish it there as your first review. And sorry in advance if i just overwhelmed you with all this. Edit: Doomsavant's Genocide fight is a bit... ridiculous. Especially with the limited controls you have.
Good Game.
finally................ the kirb...............................
he's so stupid/pos nah in all seriousness this is a great game and feels like a mix of kirby and super meat boy and i just think this game is awesome
This could be a semi biased review but i watched him develop this game for years with love. From what i've played so far it has been alot of fun and just a good way to pass the times. I'm not the best with the controls but feels nice and smooth and the enemies dont feel awful to fight. Excited to see where this game goes!
Having now beaten all the 3 Worlds (in genocide, neutral and pacifist) + Nightmare, I can say the game is fun! Also rage inducing for some levels in the worlds, but still fun!
Look the game is fine for what it is but charging $10 for this in unacceptable right now EDIT: Dev is cool and lowered the price to $5, which makes a lot more sense
the gameplay is not fun, it's mostly just pressing the x key over and over, and your attack is so small and the hitbox for your attack is invisible for like 90% of it's animation and it causes you to stop your movement, so it makes the game feel slow, awkward and not fun.
apologies - very long review incoming! but i got a lot of thoughts about the game, as i've been following it for a long while. sorry if this comes across as mean spirited, that's not my intention! i do just kinda want to say some criticism about the game and where i think it could or could've improved, as well as some extra stuff i've noticed. (there's a TL;DR for those who just want the summary too.) anyway, the premise for this game was very interesting to me, so its exciting to finally see this game release! i played through most of the content, and the gameplay is very fun! there are a lot of unique enemies, stages, and mechanics that show up. the music is great too, and im a big fan of the art style. i love how the game has three routes for how you play too, and especially for the geno ending, i feel it really paid off. overall, i'd recommend this game for anyone looking for a platformer with the bad guy twist! but theres some stuff i really gotta mention here too. spoilers are coming up, but i do think some of this stuff is important to mention if you're interested. the original premise (i believe) was that you play as someone who's lost their touch with reality and as a result - they kill. in the final game, the story has changed, and you're possessed by a demon. i don't have a problem with a story like that, but this game leaves a lot to be desired for me. the demon doesn't really do anything until the end. i feel more could've been done with the resisting in pacifist. like have mechanics where the demon forces you to attack at times, or in geno you could have the demon ponder why hamachi is so willing to give up his body, and maybe even learn about his character or the demon themselves? because of this, i do kind of think the original game concept would be better, as i feel there's a lot more room to fit in some interesting ideas about who hamachi is, what happened to him, and (to me) work better narratively as it just focuses on hamachi more. i just kinda feel like hamachi doesn't really get much to do much in the current story since focus is mostly put on the demon from dialogue of other characters. like instead of him resisting a demon, he could be trying to fight back against his own urges in the pacifist route? i know it might sound like im asking a lot from a platformer in terms of story - but the game does try its hand in story itself, so i wanted to say what i thought about it. for one last mention on the story, i also kinda feel like it's a little odd. some stuff just kinda happens. the police chase in w1 is very cool and fun to play through, yet it never comes up again. i feel it would've been great to have it play once every two worlds or so, building up the police learning hamachi's patterns of escape before catching him off guard and apprehending him. instead, he takes a mushroom and gets caught because of that. and about the dialogue, a lot of lore is dumped on you where i feel it could've worked just as well as a line or two. the neutral ending also felt a tad random. a lot of stuff just kind of happens, but because i dont really know anything about the demon, i just kind of felt like 'what'?. one more thing though is that this game does feel a little unfinished to me. kind of in part due to how a lot of stuff just kinda happens, but also because a lot was teased for this game during its development, and some of it just isn't here for some reason. multiplayer was teased at one point, and the multiplayer character shows up in game, but as far as i can tell, the mode is not here. same with costumes, the challenge levels, hard mode, achievements, and some other things. (i know stuff like this can be scrapped, but it looked to be working from the teasers, so im just curious as to where it went). however, there was also something else important which i'll mention. it was on the gamejolt page that if you bought the game there for early access, you'd get in the special thanks and get a free steam key. that part is now gone (which i understand since the game is now out), but it was there. as far as i can tell, there isn't any special thanks for those people, and i didnt receive any steam key for this game either. to be fair, i WAS able to get it for free earlier because the creator posted roughly 50 free steam keys for the game at one point, but i also could've gotten that without buying the gamejolt early access. im just kind of bummed out because special thanks was a big reason i bought it early. i know plans may have changed, but it would be nice to have that communicated. just some extra notes here (as this is already long enough so i might as well say some other things), i did get this weird bug (and it seems to only happen for me) where the music will just cut out and only come back when i die, but i havent seen it replicated. itd also be nice to have extra save slots. i know the game isnt too long, but i did fail geno at one point and had to restart, so itd be nice to copy saves. some bosses did also feel unbalanced at times. the pacifist final boss was five phases with no checkpoints, and with the intense bullet patterns it had, that was way too much for me. and some of the neutral bosses felt way harder than the geno bosses too for some strange reason? but that's about it. just to reiterate - i dont mean any disrespect! i know this is the developer's first game (i think), but i just want to express my thoughts. this is my first real time writing a review this long, so my bad if it comes off rude. i'm glad the game finally came out after all this time, though. good luck to the developer in whatever you pursue next! TL;DR: the game is very fun, has good art and music, and i recommend it for sure! but the story feels somewhat confusing and not too built up. there's some stuff missing too, and it feels a little unbalanced at times. but if you focus on gameplay, the game is great! (not to say the story sucks! its got great parts, its just hard to follow at times and could've been a lot more too).
