"Master Chief, you mind telling me the video game?" "Sir, Halo Beats!"

Circular Taiko. Fun! Also, the game currently had 40 songs already, and more are being added. For free! Each song has a variety of difficulties you can pick between too. Best of all, it's free!

so when do i start fighting the covenant?
"Halo Beats!" is a somewhat pointless, minimalist rhythm/QTE game where you tap your iPhone in time with the beat while looking at a cartoon anime girl drawing, and uh... well, that's all there is to this. An incredibly shallow and pointless experience that barely qualifies as a game. I'm surprised to see this didn't even get a release on the app stores. There's no English translation for the game, but that's okay. The language of bad games is universal. It's been in Early Access for over 4 years, so this will probably never be a complete game, either. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs to pretend they're mobile phones or Commodore 64s. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
super fun game! it's super lightweight and it's really quick to just jump straight into a round whenever you feel like it. the song selection is surprisingly big considering this game is 100% free. the chart ratings may be a little bit odd at times (dogbite and red socks both being a heavenly 8 is kinda wacky), but the charts themselves are fun enough that it's still super enjoyable even when you accidentally pick a track way out of your comfort range. the hit detection is a bit too lenient for my taste and my habit of tapping out empty beats between notes has gotten me a broken combo a few too many times, but that's more of a personal gripe than anything objective. kanon best girl <3
