Halloween Secrets: The Blood Vow Collector's Edition

This is a nice story-driven HOG with a halloween theme. I haven't come across many games to scratch the artifex mundi itch, since they stopped putting games on steam, and i feel like this may be the first worthy successor that i have come across. Fans of those games will certainly enjoy their time spent here. the puzzles weren't cryptic enough to drive me crazy. there were never more than 3 different areas to travel through at one time, so i was not overwhelmed with backtracking in a desperate search to progress. there are also a ton of achievements, which was nice to see. i do feel like there wasn't enough straight forward "find the hidden objects" mini games. i am used to more of that, and it is one of my favorite parts of games like this. i was also not a big fan of the "spot the differences" puzzles, since they require toggling back and forth between the images, instead of them being side by side to compare them. maybe that is just something i am not used to though. i am not a big fan of DLC in general, and it seems strange to be an option for this type of game. i did also get softlocked at one point, but it was early on in the bonus quest, so i hardly lost any progress at all, once i figured out something was wrong. overall, i enjoyed this, and i hope to have a chance to play more of this publisher's games in the future.

It's October 31st. Three friends, Alex, Kate, and Dan, want to have fun. Dan has a great idea: why not organize a Halloween party at Darkhand Castle? Rumor has it that this castle is haunted, making it the perfect place for a night of spooky fun and mystery. While preparing, they find a "Book of Witches" and immediately plan to perform a ritual. Bad idea! Suddenly, a witch appears, takes possession of Dan, and disappears with him. What was supposed to be a fun evening turns into terror. Where has Dan gone? They soon discover that three witches covet an inheritance denied to them, which is why they've cast a curse. If they want to see Dan again, they'll have to find the cursed relics and deliver them to them Alex and Kate must wander through Darkhand, a place full of secrets, and delve into a dark history to save their friend. This is their chance to prove their courage on Halloween night! Although some people are able to play it, there seems to be a C++ Visual Studio distributable that's making this unplayable for me. Haven't seen any dev response on this yet from discussions. Not recommended until fix.

This is a fairly easy game to play. The problem I'm having with this one is that the Achievements don't show up. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, it didn't make a difference. It runs pretty smooth for the most part. Just wish I knew about the Achievements part before I bought the game. You do need to buy the DCL to advance in the game. Hope this helps others. I recommend this game to those who don't care about the Achievements.

The story and the puzzles are cool. However, the Steam achievements are bugged, and the game crashed several times. Only buy with a big big discount.
