It's fine mainly if you want a cheap way to get HL1 assets, deathmatch maps, and weapons to mount on GMOD. But if you have the actual GoldSource Half Life there's not much other reason to get this as the GoldSource version is actually updated more, and has more servers, more mods, better physics, not needing to use the command console just to change your playermodel or other basic settings, is obviously more accurate to what was originally intended, doesn't have some of the bugs that DM: Source does, none of the oddities of this specific version, better controls, faster pacing, etc. And also the Deathmatch gamemode in GoldSrc Half Life isn't needlessly separated from the main game - Half Life: Source isn't even publicly listed on Steam! There's also a Half Life: Deathmatch gamemode for GMOD that requires addons that in turn uses assets from mounting this and/or Half Life: Source, so if you still want to combine the GoldSrc Arena Combat with the Source Engine, you can do that and you'll still have a better experience because of GMOD having Peer to Peer, better modding support, more accessible custom playermodels / maps / items, a more modern version of Source, actually being updated (again), etc. This is one of those games where I wish you could leave a neutral or informational option, instead of just recommending for or against it. Since there's nothing really wrong with this game on its own, you can even still get a good session in, it's just that as a whole it's a bit redundant. I'm not sure how this got in my library. I think it was included for that brief Half Life 2 celebration where they made it free?
Pretty fun game! Although the playerbase is pretty dead and obviously it'll have the very weird reflections and other visual mishaps of Half Life Source.
Ну вроде норм
Valve is known for (amongst many things) their amazing ability to make FPS games. Think Team Fortress & Counter-Strike, those are some great games but where would they be today without Half-Life as a starting point. Half-Life got some multiplayer FPS games but none of them were set in the Half-Life world, so when they eventiualy made a Half-Life FPS game I thought it would be good. In my oppinion, it fell flat of that. It dosent have many players so when you get a match with somebody else two things will happen. Nr.1 The enemy is just troling or Nr.2 the game f*cking crash. This is not a problem with my Laptop, this is the game just being ass. It's also built off of the (inferier) Half-Life: Source not the original so y'know it's bad from that alone. Idk how Valve fumbeled the bag this bad. I got this game (And Half-Life 2 Deathmatch) for free and I still want an emotional refund. I wouldnt get this game if it's not a free-with-purchase. I give this a 3.6 / 10 on the T-T-TV rating scale. Also in my first match after just saying hello, some guy told me to off myself so that should tell you all about the game.
Игра хорошая, но есть баги: 1. В основном урон просто не проходит 2. Предметы удваиваются (хотя это не минус).
This review holds zero nostalgia, and I’m sorry, but this does not hold up in 2026. This is an online-only deathmatch game where you are relying on someone still hosting a server. When I played, there were only a few active lobbies, usually with maybe 4 to 6 real players. Once you get in, that is basically the whole game. You spawn in, pick up random guns scattered around empty maps, and fight until you die. No progression. No unlocks. No real reason to keep going. Just unbalanced weapons, mostly empty maps, and people who have clearly been playing this since 2006 (half-joke). I also had server issues, and the game crashed when I tried switching lobbies. If you grew up with this, I’m genuinely happy for you. I understand why nostalgia might make it feel special. But for everyone else, don’t bother. At the current asking price, this is absolutely not worth it. Honestly, even if it were free, I’d still tell most people to skip the download.
