About

This unique action adventure game lets you become Haimrik, a young scribe trying to make a living in a medieval town full of warriors, sorcerers, dragons and dragon-riding sorcerer-warriors. But one book changes his whole life. With the help of Masamba, a hungry lioness who will protect him while constantly trying to eat him, he’ll venture out to take on the evil king and his elite generals, the Word Warriors.
Fortunately, Haimrik commands the Power of the Words! These are the stones in the path Haimrik walks, and he brings them to life as he steps on each one, willingly or not. Haimrik will need to activate the right words to defeat the various enemies that challenge him across numerous Word Worlds, with new puzzles appearing constantly throughout the game.
In an added touch, Haimrik will undoubtedly die many horrific deaths, leaving pools of red blood contrasting with the otherwise plain monochromatic sepia world. Be part of a medieval revolution against the Word King and his elite warriors, and change the way you see words and stories forever.

Haimrik is a darkly comedic brutal action game about altering the world with the words found in books. I beat it, but a lot of the violence and humor fell flat for me. The animations are lovingly detailed, the sepia cartoon style is cool, and the puzzles are often unique and fun. I think this balances out to a decent experience for me. That said, the fantasy kingdom and the story itself are both hyper violent and a tad unfocused. If you're not in the mood for the action puzzles or the bloody humor, there's not much else here.
ORIGINAL REVIEW (thumb up): Meh, for now the twist can be seen a mile away, but the concept is origial, the design is competent and the gameplay entertaining. There will be a post completion edit. POST COMPLETION REVIEW: Well, some of the puzzles are entertaining, some are annoying, but there are things that bother me and thing i cant forgive Things that bother me: 1- Extremely short game (4 hours when playing at times like a moron), there were enough elements in this story for a longer, better story 2- movility is dogsh*t 3- for a game which is based on reading and using the text you read, many times, you'll have to read while running from an enemy you cant beat, while the screen is moving and things are happening, which means your reading will default to detecting key works and not appreciating the text as a whole The unforgivable: 1- most characters make short, pointless appearances, they are just plot devices 2- the ending is a nothing burguer which lacks even the most basic of closures 3- THE WORST SIN: the game sets up a beginning, middle and end which STRONGLY suggest an alternative story/ending if you choose to do things in a different way, BUT there is no such thing as a different way, and since the ending feels absolutely empty, this game feels like it was released half baked.
While the art style is quite charming and the story tickles one with amusement, the mechanics leave much to be desired. Not in the sense of novelty, they're actually quite clever. The problem comes with how slow and painstaking any action, movement or otherwise, becomes. It feels like the got everything right except the actual flow of gameplay, which slowly drags along like molasses down the bark in midwinter. Fights that are visually endearing and motion artfully executed become drudgery that you need to repeat again and again until finally being able to move on. It's less that the touchiness of whether an action takes place or not makes combat too difficult, and more that it slows down the excitement so that by the end you're just frustrated and glad it's over. As much as I was enjoying the style and overall vision of Haimrik, it just wasn't worth my time to finish.
I underestimated the difficulty of this game for those who don't understand English. The gaming experience was extremely poor. I even tried an automatic translation software that could embed translations into the game, but still couldn't continue playing. Moreover, I just found out that it supports six languages but not Chinese... I thought it was because they looked down on Chinese players. After checking the update records, I realized that since its release in 2018, they have only posted two news items... How detached from fame and fortune! Other games at least would post a news item about a discount reminder.
Pretty cool game with an interesting concept - you go through linear levels made of 2-4 floors. The floors have sentences written on them, and you have to find out which word can be made physically become object they describe, and then figure out how and in which words to use them to get to the end of the stage. This applies to both puzzle solving and boss fights, which require some good timing and aiming. The game is not very long, and that’s a good thing since doesn’t overstay its welcome. Visually, it’s a mixed bag. Character design is cool (but I never got used to the main character's running face - it looks like he’s always mere seconds from pooping himself), and, for the first hour or so, the sepia-ish filter is nice. However, there’s very little variety and it all becomes a bit bland eventually. Some meaty gory effects help, though. Plenty of blood and entrails. Same goes for the OST, pleasant at first, but very repetitive. Try and figure out the puzzles fast, or you’ll be stuck listening to the same short audio loop over and over. A solid 7/10.
