Ghostbusters The Video Game 2009 is the cannonical sequel to Ghostbusters 2 and is unironicaly one of my favourite licensed game of all time. It plays like a typical third person shooter but instead of shooting guns you are using the Proton Pack and it's many variations to capture ghosts and solve puzzles. My favourite area the Library makes use of the puzzle mechanic really well and while it's as simple as aim to the object the games want to shoot to create a rope so you can create platforms to move on it can also be used to move objects and even capture ghosts so there's a decent veriety on how each variation of the Proton Pack is used so the gameplay never gets old. The same can be for the enemies, as there's a veriety of them each with their own unique weaknesses and are fun to fight. If i had to desribr the gameplay it would be "TPS Luigi Mansion" but with the Ghostbusters and more gadgets to mess around with. Another thing to appreciate is how they were able to get all the original casting including Dan Ankroyd so the experience can be as close to the original Movies as possible and they successfully captured everything that made the Ghostbusters such a cult classic. But is it "remastered" as the title implies? What changed compared to the og version? Nothing really. The visuals are more crispier and clearlier but it's still the same game from back in the day. And for some reason, it loves changing settings each time you close the game which is definitely an annoyance. Overall, a underrated gem that doesn't get enough credit as it deserves. But i'm glad more people can now play it again after getting delisted years ago with a bit better visuals. Yes, it misses the MP component but it wasn't anything special to be warrant a return begin with so to me that's not a big loss.
It's been a while since I played this game. Well, technically, I have never played THIS game. This is the first time I played the 2019 'Remastered' version of the 2009 "Ghostbusters" game. Not that I really can tell the difference between the original and the remaster that came out a decade later. The textures are a bit sharper, I guess, and they changed the color balance some. Still, the original game captured the look and feel of the movies fairly well, and the remaster doesn't do too much to improve upon that. If all you have is the original, you aren't really missing out by not playing the remaster. Actually, in some respects the Remaster seemed slightly worse. Not visually or in gameplay, but a lot of the scripted events seemed less snappy; I'd be waiting for the characters to move into position to open doors or react to events in a way I didn't recall when I first played the game in 2009. It added a sense of artificiality to the experience; a reminder that this wasn't a fun movie but digital puppets waiting for the perfect moment to say do their thing. Maybe the original game suffered the same problem... but I don't remember it that way. Nonetheless, it was a fairly minor issue. The gameplay is adequate. To be quite honest, it's the second weakest part of the title. The ghost wrangling was fun, but unfortunately that only occupied a fraction of the game. A lot of the enemies were monstrosities you simply shot at until they vaporized. It was only the bigger ghoulies you had to wrestle into the ghost-traps; the smaller fry were hordes of easily defeated poltergeists whose main tactic was to simply run into you. Also, while some of the level design was fantastic, about half of the levels were overly long, linear and repetitive slogs. They were all great to look at, filled with lots of interesting details... but in terms of gameplay some of the levels could have used an editor's touch. I said the gameplay was the second-worst bit of the game; the worst was the voice-acting. Well, not all the voice-acting. Most of the characters --almost all played by the actors from the original movies-- jumped into their roles with gusto, and it was terrific to hear them reprise their roles. With one exception: Bill Murray gave such a lackluster performance that he brought down every scene he was in. Despite this, the game is remarkably fun, and captures everything I loved about the original films. It does a great job of wrapping up the lose ends from the first two movies --much better than the sequels that came out years later-- and I've always considered this to be the 'real' third movie in the franchise. The game captures that weird mix of dry humor, sci-fi action, and supernatural horror that made the movies so memorable. It's not the greatest game in the world, but it definitely is the best Ghostbusters game ever made, and fans of the franchise need to play it at least once.
boy, this remaster is pretty pathetic. i guess i've been spoiled by nightdive, but this release is clunky feeling: in-game cutscenes are animated at a very low FPS, FMV cinematics are blurry and awful looking, settings won't save at all unless you manually make a "GHOSTBUSTERS" folder in %localappdata%, and the controls (especially mouse+keyboard in menus) are just mush. they also have a "30fps" option and a "60fps" option, but neglect to inform you that you can turn both of the settings off to get 120fps (which still doesn't seem to work in cutscenes). the game itself is a bit rough but still one of the best movie-to-video game adaptations to ever happen, but good gosh golly even getting this release on sale for $5 made me pull on my collar out of embarrassment. this game was originally made by the Nocturne devs instead of making a new Nocturne, which stinks, but they did some good work here. unfortunately this remaster was not up to the task of keeping this game feeling as good as it can on modern machines. i hope the original devs at least still got some royalties out of this, though i wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.
A fantastic game for anyone who is even remotely a fan of Ghostbusters. Strap on that proton pack and save the city already!
Beaten 6/10 Good game, very 'xbox 360' era. Excellent, simple combat. Just fun, nothing complicated
Not a remaster.
fun game to play, graphics are great too 10/10
the official third ghostbusters movie, and no, that is not a joke this game has facinated me ever since i was a kid, i was never a huge ghostbusters fan, but something about the story behind this was always so neat, it's a fine game, some parts haven't aged well in the slightest, it's probably the best movie tie in game i've played, i'd reccomend it to people who don't mind a bit of weird jank
