Hacknet is an immersive, terminal-based hacking simulator for PC. Dive down a rabbit hoIe as you follow the instructions of a recently deceased hacker, whose death may not have been the accident the media reports.

very nice hacking simulator.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is a genuinely good story rich game with some fun things to find if you try, or just along the way. I would recommend Hacknet to those who like good story games, and/or to those who want a short game to get immersed in.
I have absolutely enjoyed running the commands and peeping through the files. While there are some inconsistencies where the user might take a glance at the wikis and guides during the endgame, most of the missions are unique and interesting enough for the user to find solutions. It is a fun vanilla hacking game nevertheless.
clock unlocked; am hacker
What's positive (!) Hacknet is an exceptionally atmospheric terminal-driven puzzle game that serves as an engaging introduction to fundamental networking and command-line mechanics. Rather than relying on gamified quick-time events, it requires you to interact directly with a Unix-like environment. Navigating directories, manipulating files, and executing core CLI commands such as ls, cd, cat, and scp quickly becomes second nature. Beyond basic shell operations, the game introduces foundational computer science and infrastructure concepts, forcing you to logically chain exploit tools, scan for open standard ports such as FTP on 21, SSH on 22, and HTTP on 80 and target specific running services to compromise root access. What's negative (!) Its primary shortcoming lies in the user interface during late-game network expansion. As the number of target nodes increases, the graphical Display Map degrades in usability due to dynamic node overlap. Selecting specific server locations on the grid becomes increasingly tedious, making manual network mapping and spatial orientation unnecessarily chaotic in the final chapters. In conlusion (!) Despite the cluttered visual map layout in the late game, the combination of realistic terminal interaction and logical sequence planning makes Hacknet a standout recommendation. As a certified IT specialist, I highly recommend it to both tech enthusiasts and prospective Linux admins alike.
It's been some time since I've found a game to be THIS engaging. I found myself getting into a flow with hopping between nodes, gaining access, looking for details/connections, and removing all of my tracks. It somehow managed to keep my attention for long periods of time--none of which felt wasted. The characters, despite generally only being portrayed over chat messages/emails/text files, felt surprisingly real, and they all had a unique feel when interacting with them. The DLC is easily the strongest example of this. Hell, even those that you're hacking feel human, as you're looking into their work/personal lives (especially if you're as thorough as I was in looking around) The main story line is really interesting, and the whole game feels a lot more grounded compared to what you see in many "hacker" games. The side story lines (aka many minor contracts done between main missions) are also very entertaining. They include a lot of miscellaneous files with witty/dumb humor that perfectly portrays how people can be on the internet lol. The DLC is, in my opinion, just as good as the main game. Things can feel more complex, and there's a lot of interesting things you can find. There's also this strong sense of bittersweetness that seems to typify the way main characters exit the scene (aka when you reach the end of their story line), which is only enhanced by the anonymity maintained by all parties. It's kind of insane how personal that feeling can be (
hoping for Coel or V to reach back out ;-;
). Ultimately, if you enjoy sifting through details and uncovering funny and/or interesting story lines while in one of the most well-executed hacker settings, then this game is a MUST. As far as I'm concerned, it's an easy 10/10.
-Bit

0
