Hacknet is an immersive, terminal-based hacking simulator for PC. Dive down a rabbit hoIe as you follow the instructions of a recently deceased hacker, whose death may not have been the accident the media reports.

As a hacker: This ain't it. Though I can't say I've seen a good 'hacking game' yet. It should be as fun as the fun part of hacking, without the tedious parts, and be less work than actual hacking (or I may as well be actually hacking). That doesn't exist yet and this isn't it. Not the worst attempt I've seen, though.
I went to Hacknet "to understand how hackers work." I accidentally knocked out the entire building's internet, hacked the school server, and got into a fight with my best friend. 10/10, addictive!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Başlarda hafif zorlayabilir ama alıştıkça çok güzel bir oyuna dönüşüyor.
A decent edutainment game. Fairly easy and fairly low stakes. Works as a "baby's first infosec system"--and honestly, I'm okay with it. Works for me to build up my own confidence on the matter I have a few other games of a similar type on my wishlist (and in my backlog). I started this one after a roll of the dice (well bought and then started via /dev/random) I will note, that the CLI interface... interface interface?--kind of an "ATM Machine" type thing there. You know leaning into it: the Command CLI Interface this game uses is a very slimmed down and overly simplified variation of the BASH terminal emulators I am use to doing stuff in. There are a few things I do that are perfectly "valid" when doing stuff in BASH that doesn't quite translate to working here. (Uh... "valid" and "BASH" in the same sentence does weird things in my head) A nice slow pace--and oddly relaxing. Nearly a Zen type meditation type experience, I guess? I'm certain there are some stuff in the Workshop that increases difficulty (including one that has you use actual IRL tools/environments with the game). Some of the other games likely are more harder (or maybe several are easier, who knows *shrugs*) I could definitely see a tween sitting down to play this, and get fond memories--and have it exist with how Millennials feel about Oregan Trail and Number Munchers

Hacknet is a solid game and I had tons of fun with it. I found the game on a deal, quite cheap and, although I have never played something similar, it hooked me and I finished it in two sits. I don't know anything about hacking or programming but I am drawn to these topics in fiction, so if you like a good narrative about hacking then this game is good for that. You don't need to have any specialised knowledge and the mechanics of the game are pretty straightforward, not super complicated but fun enough. Some people in the review comments say the levels and how to go through them is a bit repetitive - I can understand the feeling but the progression is ok and, for the duration of the game, just enough. So, overall, I think the main strength of the game is its narrative, and the mechanics are good enough to make you feel like you are hacking, independently of how close is to the real thing. Definitely recommended!
