About
In the abandoned internet, the old rules are dead. Don't just follow the script, write your own. This is a system waiting to be subverted by the operators who dare to learn its rules.
Your goals are your own:
Will you become a digital archaeologist, piecing together the fragmented lore and forgotten secrets of the multi-user domain?
Will you design and build your own games, tools, or cryptic puzzles, becoming a renowned Weaver whose creations are sought by others?
Will you build a name for yourself as a trusted voice, a data trafficker, or simply the host of the most exclusive social hubs on the net?
Will you build a corporate empire, discover and exploit security flaws, or become a notorious con artist who scams rivals out of their fortunes?
The choice is yours. But first, we'll give you the tools of the trade. A guiding hand will walk you through the fundamentals, ensuring you're fully equipped to make your mark on the system.
This is pure retro-futuristic immersion. The unique interface pulls you into the fantasy, while the deep, atmospheric soundtrack by legendary composers Lena Raine (Celeste, Minecraft) and Ryan Ike (West of Loathing, Gunpoint) makes the abandoned net feel alive, dangerous, and full of secrets.
Explore a persistent world where player-run corporations, underground economies, and shifting alliances are the content. Your actions create lasting change, from destroying the market to uncovering bizarre lore and puzzles that have been unsolved for a decade. This is a world with real stakes and real depth, shaped by its community.
Success in hackmud isn't measured in levels, but in influence. Your reputation is your most valuable asset. Will you be known as a trustworthy system builder, a fearsome data thief, or an untraceable digital ghost? Master subterfuge, forge alliances, and betray rivals… every interaction contributes to the legend you build.
The marks system provides a guided, hands-on onboarding experience so you don’t have to worry about being a fresh face in a den of veteran hackers. It will teach you the basics and build the foundation you'll need to survive, compete, and ultimately thrive.
Your journey starts by wielding scripts from other players: a taste of magic that invites you to look under the hood. This curiosity is how hackmud creates coders, often from players who have never written a line of code before.

Pretty fun coding type of game over all, I tend to hit a wall whenever I hit tier 2 locs tho :/
"Hah! Look at all those obvious scam scripts! What are these idiots thinking?" he says, shortly before printing his character's sys.loc in global chat because he ran a trap script while rooting around for secrets. This is probably one of the best, if not the best, hacking-themed games I've gotten my hands on. You'll spend hours solving puzzles, rooting through logs, and smashing through megacorp databases. And the community has contributed their own assortment of scripts and surprises you can mess with, to boot. Just... remember to use scripts.get_level if you don't want to put your hard-earned GC in jeopardy...
I ascended and became a sentient program with my organs connected to my CPU. 10/10 game, I would highly reccomend if you dont mind losing numerous braincells needed to function on a daily basis.
It's a really cool game, but the tutorial feels like 5 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years, hell I'm still not even done with it and my dumbass brain got confused so I just stopped playing. Other than that its pretty solid.
I enjoy it, but if you want to play without looking at guides it is exceptionally confusing. That is part of the fun to me, but there are plenty of people who would not like it.
players.top is GC maxed script-grind accounts at 1T200M and there is really no pvp since to get another player "loc" only works through chance npc drops and access.log. There is usually around 200 players according to the in game CLI command that tells you and it's obviously most new players; turnover.. the only reason you can't just run through the game with script is because kernel.hardline can't be scripted and you can't create #s./js-objects off strings because the JS runtime has window and other string>object methods sandboxed out so you can't call objects with their string names.. All user, project, pass scraping and t1 and t2 locks are automated regardless and have been a while.. :shrugs: P.S. I found it hilarious that the JS experts on Discord didn't understand why someone would want to turn a string in to a object in JS even though I literally used a #s. object as string in examples.. Big Reveal: It would allow almost zero-interaction 24/7 botting that games breach resets.. Also, the game design is suspiciously close to DarkSigns which was also by a VB6&.NET/C#/VB/ISIL dev..
great game!
