Unfortunately, the game is dead. It stayed in early access for years and didn’t receive a single update. Eventually, when Steam started issuing warnings for early access games that hadn’t been updated in years, the developer remembered the game and made a few minor changes. Later, with another update, they broke the screen visibility. Right now, half of the screen is not visible in the game. Yes, the version from years ago was actually more playable than it is now.
Immersion is the correct way to put this game because it is an extremely realisitic and IMMERSIVE hacking game. Although in Early Access, this game really makes you feel like kind of like what I imagine a high tech hacker would feel like. As updates continue, the game becomes better and better. If you were a fan of the originals, be sure to get this, because exosphen studios has taken this to the next level!
The game is unfortunately abandoned, it seems, rather give it a skip.
Having to change my review on this abandoned game. It started out so well, could of been amazing, and it's worse knowing i tried to support it in early access, but don't waste your money on this game, dev has abandoned it won't answer questions. Just go get Hacknet instead
Love the first looks of this alpha.. (31 July UPDATE / July 31 hei.0.018.alpha) If you are looking for a finished game then you better wait until the game reaches that stage. For exosyphen studios fans... Robert made an awesome framework again! :-) Really wonder how this game will be at the end. So far looking good!
It's an alpha for sure, but I own all the previous games in the series which have been great. I look forward to more updates for this game as well.
I'm having fun with this. Love the command line interface. It's fun hacking! How are you guys only spendinng 5 minutes with it? Do I have a different game? It's early access, so tell the devs how to make it better!
The new look is really nice. If it ends up anything like the earlier hacker games then its going to be a goody once it gets past alpha stage, and again at release. Just an edit to this: The game is very very earily access. No real content is avaliable at this stage (2016-08-01), but the Dev has been active with updates, and has a good history.
Hacker Evolution IMMERSION, developed and published by exosyphen studios, is a cerebral and highly specialized hacking simulator that strives to bring players as close as possible to the feel of working inside real command-line environments. Instead of leaning on Hollywood-style hacking theatrics or fast-paced minigames, the game embraces a minimalist terminal-based interface and a narrative centered on conspiracies, hidden systems, and the evolution of digital technology. From the outset, players are dropped into a world where information is currency, and every action leaves a trace. IMMERSION builds its identity around this sense of tension and precision, asking players to study systems carefully, understand the logic behind each command, and think several steps ahead as they infiltrate networks and investigate a conspiracy that stretches from the early days of humanity’s space efforts to the complexities of modern computation. The gameplay revolves around navigating interconnected servers, exploiting vulnerabilities, and managing your digital footprint as you carry out increasingly complex intrusions. Each command executed through the terminal interface serves a purpose, whether scanning ports, decrypting files, transferring funds, or covering your tracks to avoid being traced. Because everything is performed through textual input, the game’s pacing is deliberate and methodical, relying on the player’s ability to parse information and execute logical sequences rather than react quickly. This makes Hacker Evolution IMMERSION a unique experience within the genre, appealing strongly to players who enjoy puzzle-solving framed through a realistic, simulation-heavy lens. The lack of flashy visuals is intentional: the stark interface reinforces the immersion and encourages players to focus entirely on the mechanics of infiltration and problem-solving. Narratively, IMMERSION continues the themes seen in earlier titles from exosyphen, exploring the intersection of technology, secrecy, and human ambition. The story hints at large-scale conspiracies and hidden truths buried deep within abandoned research programs and secure digital archives. While the narrative delivery is subtle and embedded within mission briefings, clues, and data fragments, it provides enough intrigue to motivate progression. The game’s atmosphere rests on the sense of uncovering something forbidden or forgotten—an effect heightened by the solitary nature of command-line work, where every discovery feels earned through intellectual engagement rather than scripted spectacle. As an early access title, however, Hacker Evolution IMMERSION is a work in progress, and this is where its ambitions clash with its current state. The game features only a small selection of missions, and the development pace has been slow enough that many players feel the experience remains incomplete. Early access is meant to be a period of refinement and expansion, yet for many users, IMMERSION feels more like a teaser than a fully formed entry in the franchise. The biggest criticisms stem from limited content, unclear feedback systems, and the sense that the game has not evolved significantly since its initial release window. Compared to earlier Hacker Evolution titles, which offered more polished mission design and clearer progression, IMMERSION can feel rough around the edges and too sparse to satisfy long-term engagement. Despite these shortcomings, the foundation of the game has undeniable appeal for a niche but loyal audience. The authenticity of the mechanics, the cerebral tone, and the commitment to a grounded terminal-based interface all resonate with players who appreciate slower, more thoughtful hacking simulations. The game invites the kind of analytical mindset that rewards patience and methodical thinking, making it a refreshing alternative to action-heavy interpretations of cybersecurity. For those who enjoy immersing themselves in command-line environments or learning through experimentation, IMMERSION offers a sandbox of ideas that, even in its incomplete form, sparks curiosity about where its systems and story may eventually lead. Ultimately, Hacker Evolution IMMERSION represents both the promise and the limitations of ambitious indie simulation design. It delivers a raw, unfiltered take on hacking that values logic and authenticity over spectacle, but its early access status means its potential is not yet fully realized. Fans of the series and enthusiasts of terminal-based puzzles may find enough here to justify diving into its world, but others may prefer to wait until the game matures and offers a more robust set of missions and mechanical depth. As it stands, IMMERSION is a thoughtful but unfinished experience—an intriguing blueprint for a deeper hacking narrative that has yet to fully take shape. Rating: 5/10
